On Valentine’s Day, Vanessa Hudgens went on a romantic trip to Sedona, Arizona with her boyfriend Austin Butler.
As part of their jaunt through the scenic desert, the couple carved their names into a rock like a couple of school-aged lovers.
“Austin + Vanessa” they wrote, surrounding their profession of love within a heart.
Adorable, right?
Hudgens snapped a pic and shared it to Instagram, but removed it shortly thereafter.
Apparently, she didn’t know she’d committed a federal crime.
As it turns out, the lovey-dovey gesture falls under the category of defacement of public land, and the actress has now been slapped with a $ 1,000 fine, according to TMZ.
Hudgens reportedly cooperated with authorities, and frankly, one grand is probably chump change to the former Disney star.
“The issue of people carving their names and other things in rocks in the Sedona and surrounding area is always a challenge we face, and try to inform people about its destructive nature,” Coconino National Forest Public Affairs Officer Brady Smith told Us Weekly.
“We have found that when one person carves something, it encourages others to carve,” he added.
We’re sure Vanessa didn’t realize the consequences of her actions, but likely learned a valuable lesson.
Earlier this year, she suffered the loss of her father the day before she was scheduled to perform on the much-anticipated, televised version of Grease Live.
Nevertheless, the star bravely went on to give a flawless performance, which she dedicated to her late dad.
Later, she spoke out about her father’s passing to People:
“There are highs and there are lows,” she said. “It sucks, but death happens. It never makes it easier but it happens to all of us.
“It’s just something we have to get through until we all meet again in heaven.”
