Selma Blair Reveals Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis: "I Am Disabled"

Selma Blair has written candidly and emotionally about the most personal of topics.

On Saturday, the actress revealed that she has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

This disease affects the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information within the brain.

It is not a death sentence, although those afflicted live on average seven years fewer than those who have not been diagnosed.

It is debilitating, however.

Blair posted a selfie on Instagram over the weekend and proceeded to explain why she came forward with her “profound” story.

She did so by giving credit to costume designer Allisa Swanson, who is working on her upcoming show Another Life, detailing how Swanson designs her wardrobe on the show…

… but also “carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself.”

Wrote Blair of her illness:

“I am in exacerbation. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it.”

Blair hopes to use her platform to assist others, but also admits that she could use a lot of help herself.

“I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask.

“But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow. I want to play with my son again. I want to walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS and I am ok.

Continued the star, perhaps best known for her big screen role in Cruel Intentions:

“But if you see me, dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up. It takes a whole day for me alone. Thank you and may we all know good days amongst the challenges.”

Blair also appeared opposite Charlie Sheen on FX’s Anger Management and also portayed Kris Jenner on the first season of American Crime Story.

In response to her open and honest post, Blair has received support from strangers on the Internet and friends in the entertainment business.

“I love you, I’m proud of you, and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for you,” wrote Sarah Michelle Gellar, while her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., added:

“Love you Mama.”

Blair, who was diagnosed in mid-August, said she thought she just had a “pinched nerve” prior to receiving her diagnosis.

She estimates that she has had MS for about 15 years.

The cause of MS is still unknown, but women have a much higher diagnosis rate than men.

There is no cure.

Tweeted actress Megan Mullally to Blair:

“damn, it’s hard to know what to say, except i’m terribly sorry to hear this, and thank you for your courage and for coming forward, selma. you’re helping hundreds of thousands of people.”

Blair also heard from others suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. To wit:

Mother Blasts TSA for "Horrifying" Pat-Down of Disabled Son

A mother of four named Jennifer Williamson has shared a video on Facebook that was filmed last Sunday at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

It has been viewed over 5.7 million times and we wish we could say this was due to its hilarious nature.

Instead, however, it"s due to the very disturbing action depicted, as a TSA agent spends over two minutes closely patting down a child with special needs.

“Let me make something crystal clear. He set off NO alarms,” Williamson wrote of her son, Aaron, who suffers from Sensory Processing Disorder and was traumatized by the experience.

“He physically did not alarm at all during screening, he passed through the detector just fine.”

So the young man passed through the main detector, yet was still pulled aside for an extra screening.

That does happen sometimes.

The detector occasionally picks something up in a specific area of one"s clothing and a TSA agent then conducts a quick pat-down to make sure there"s nothing to worry about.

But that"s not what takes place in the following video.

In the following video, this TSA agent runs his hands over and around Aaron"s body, again and again and again.

Williamson went on to say Aaron was detained for “well over an hour,” causing her family to miss its flight and leaving the child confused, even though she requested an alternate screening for her son due to his condition.

“He is still several hours later saying ‘I don’t know what I did. What did I do?’ I am livid,” Williamson shared online.

She added:

“I wish I had taped the entire interchange because it was horrifying. We had two DFW police officers that were called and flanking him on each side.

"Somehow these power-tripping TSA agents who are traumatizing children and doing whatever they feel like without any cause, need to be reined in.”

“The video shows a male TSA officer explaining the procedure to the passenger, who fully cooperates. Afterward, the TSA officer was instructed by his supervisor, who was observing, to complete the final step of the screening process.

"In total, the pat-down took approximately two minutes, and was observed by the mother and two police officers who were called to mitigate the concerns of the mother.”

Leah Messer Breaks Down Over Disabled Daughter: Watch

Leah Messer has been dealt quite the hand in life, hasn"t she?

Not only did she get pregnant at 16, but she got pregnant with twins. And not only did she get pregnant with twins, but one of those twins was born with a debilitating disease.

She also has two failed marriages under her belt at a very young age and she"s struggled with an alleged prescription pill problem, but let"s stick to that twin thing for now, OK?

One of Leah"s twins, Ali, has a rare form of muscular dystrophy. At this point in her life, the disease is really affecting her mobility.

Ali has a wheelchair that she"s encouraged to use at all times, and a helmet for the times she does walk around, since she suffers a lot of falls.

But Leah isn"t too big on the helmet. Or the wheelchair, for that matter.

In this sneak peek from next week"s brand new episode of Teen Mom 2, Leah talks with a friend about Ali"s issues.

She still seems to be in denial about the severity of Ali"s disease, and understandably so.

She says that even though Ali"s supposed to use her wheelchair, she"s never tell her that she couldn"t walk if she wanted to walk.

Leah even says that she didn"t know if she"d ever be able to accept that her daughter"s condition is declining.

Leah Messer: Disabled Daughter Ali Swims, Internet Cheers Her On

We welcome opportunities to cheer on Leah Messer and her family, especially when it comes to her daughter, Ali.

Ali, 7, was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, which will eventually weaken her body to the point where she can"t walk on her own.

"Her strength is still quite decent,” a doctor told Messer and her ex-husband, Corey Simms (Ali"s father) in a March episode of Teen Mom 2.

“But once she’s getting to age 7, then gradually, the maturity affects her. Then she may very slowly get weaker.”

Messer shared an incredible video four days ago of Ali literally taking to the pool like a fish to water.  The little girl put on her goggles, made sure mom was paying attention and took off from the steps.  

It was incredible to see Ali so confident and happy.

"The determination in the little one is empowering in itself!!" Messer wrote.

"She NEVER gives up! I watch this video DAILY!! I had to share #MDWONTSTOPHER #Aliannah #MyHOPE."

In a second video, Messer continued to praise her daughter, who was splashing around like a champ.

"Once she learned how to swim, I couldn"t stop her either! #MYBABY has #STRENGTH #DETERMINATION && #WILLPOWER !!

"I hope you guys really get to KNOW this little one. She will CHANGE your life! #MDWONTSTOPHER."

For the most part, it looks like Ali is confined to a motorized wheelchair, which the doctor recommended at the appointment since MD will weaken the little girl over time.

On a lighter note, Messer and her three daughters (Ali"s twin, Aleeah and their half sister, Adalynn) are currently on vacation at Great Wolf Lodge in Anaheim, CA.

Teen Mom 2 is currently filming (there are likely cameras following Messer and her girls), while Teen Mom OG will premiere August 22nd on MTV.

Disabled Woman Shares Bikini Photo, Inspires a Nation

It’s been a good week for inspiring bikini photos.

A few days ago, we shared the story of a plus-size blogger who is very proud of her figure… as she ought to be.

And now we’re equally excited to bring you the story of Aimee Copeland.

You’re going to want to stand up and applaud for this one…

Based on her Facebook biography, Copeland was injured in a tragic zip lining accident when she was a graduate student going after her Master’s degree.

What made this accident so unusual and unfortunate was that Aimee’s open leg wound became infected with a flesh-eating bacteria.

As a result, Copeland lost her left leg, her right foot and both of her hands.

She had to undergo months of surgeries and rehabilitation, not to mention the mental toll such a physical problem brings along with it.

Fast forward to today and Copeland is getting her second Master’s degree in Social Work … she’s working as a disabilities activist … and she’s putting her money where her mouth is.

Or, to be more accurate, she’s putting her unique body on display for all to see.

Copeland shared the above photo on Facebook and wrote as a caption along with it:

It has taken me a long time to become comfortable with and accept my new body. We are ALL made with imperfections and there is so much beauty in our flaws.

The scars and skin grafting build character! It’s not about what you have — what you do with what you have is what really counts.

What can we even add to this?

50 Cent isn"t always the brightest bulb, and frankly, he can be an incredible D-bag at times.

Now that he"s only semi-employed (He"s got a show on Starz or something.) Fiddy has lots of time to make an ass out of himself, and he"s been taking full advantage.

He"s taken to social media to claim that Diddy had Tupac killed, shared embarrassing details about his own bankruptcy proceedings, and he even got sued within an inch of his life for cyber-bullying the ex-wife of rap rival Rick Ross.

But last night, 50 may have hit a new low.

In a video that"s since been removed from his Instagram page, the rapper harasses a young janitor at a Cincinnati airport.

"What kind of shit you think he took before he got to work today?" says as he follows the young man while taking video on his phone.

"Look at him. He high as sh-t right here in the airport."

50"s actions would"ve been unconscionably dickish under any circumstances, but they"re particularly egregious in this situation, as it turns out the employee, identified as 19-year-old Andrew Farrell, suffers from a disability as well as crippling social anxiety.

In the clip below, Andrew"s parents call 50 out and demand an apology:

“To put this out there saying my son is on drugs or whatever, that is part of his social anxiety,” says Andrew"s father, Kent Farrell.

“He’s not wanting to talk, he’s not wanting to communicate, he’s walking on and he’s doing his job.”

This, of course, is not 50"s first time publicly mocking the disabled.

Back in 2012, 50 apologized for posting insensitive tweets about autism.

In 2014, he made fun of illiterate adults on Instagram.

It"s unclear if 50 will issue an apology this time, but at least those who have been bullied by the rapper can take comfort in the fact that there"s no greater joke than his career.

Nicki Minaj Denies Dissing of Disabled Person

Nicki Minaj may have dressed up for Halloween as a fairy. (A sexy fairy, of course).

But that doesn’t mean the singer believed she had actual magical powers on Saturday night. It also doesn’t mean she’s a terrible person.

The singer found herself in hot water over the weekend after video went viral of Minaj pointing her wand at a woman in a wheelchair while celebrating Halloween at 1 OAK in Las Vegas.

She then commanded this person to “walk.”

Which would be rather cruel and inappropriate if this person were truly confined to a wheelchair, as most assumed and as most celebrity gossip outlets wrote.

But Minaj Tweeted in response to Perez Hilton accusing her of this act by writing the following on Sunday evening:

“Lol. That’s NOT a disabled person and u know that. Are u that desperate for attention?

“Bitch, u knew. That’s my friend in a scooter. Have a great day. I surely will.”

Oh. Right. Sorry. Our bad, Nicki.

The singer wasn’t done being critical, however.

She also took note of someone dressed as Bill Cosby for Halloween and made her feelings known on Twitter, coming down hard on anyone who would use multiple sexual assault charges as the basis for a costume.

“Our generation is so desensitized,” she wrote while posting a picture of a man dressed up as the comedian, holding a woman appearing to be asleep. 

She makes a couple good points here, doesn’t she?

1. Cosby is accused of drugging and raping over 40 women throughout his professional life.


2. And also, come on… who would think Minaj would truly yell at a woman in a wheelchair?!?

Nicki Minaj Mocks Disabled Woman in Wheelchair, Pisses Off Fans

Nicki Minaj may not have had the year"s best celebrity Halloween costume (that title goes to LeBron James as Prince), but she"s attracting plenty of attention for her fairy godmother get-up.

Sadly, it"s for all the wrong reasons.

In a video clip that"s going viral today, a visibly intoxicated Nicki points her "magic wand" at a woman in a wheelchair and roars, "I command you to walk."

Needless to say, a lot of folks didn"t find the remark as funny as Nicki and her friends seemed to.

Nicki has been running damage control today by tweeting at Perez Hilton (one of the first to post the footage) that the woman sitting in the wheelchair was actually a makeup artist friend of hers.

"That"s NOT a disabled person and u know that. Are u that desperate for attention?" Nicki tweeted. "Bitch, u knew. That"s my friend in a scooter."

Some fans have countered that even if Nicki is telling the truth (a big "if," as based on the video, it doesn"t seem the woman was in on the joke), the clip is still offensive to people with physical disabilities.

Before she even "casts her spell," Nicki can be heard to remark, "Now, if only I could find Handi Man," a reference to the disabled superhero character played by Damon Wayans on the "90s sketch show In Living Color.

So regardless of whether the woman was someone that Nicki knew, Ms. Minaj was clearly having a laugh at the plight of people with disabilities, and she should probably be apologizing instead of justifying.

Also, Nicki, instead of being the 4 millionth celeb to indulge Perez Hilton"s trolling, maybe just take Taylor Swift"s advice from last night and let it go.
