Grant Gustin Hits Back at Body Shamers After The Flash Costume Pic Leaks!

Fresh after the announcement that Ruby Rose will play Batwoman in the Arrowverse, a very unflattering photo of Grant Gustin in a new Flash costume leaked.

The The Flash star took to Instagram to assure concerned fans that no, that’s not the final look for the Season 5 costume.

But he also took aim at the hateful trolls who decided to body-shame him. Body-shaming is never okay.

After an unflattering photo of Grant Gustin posing in a new Flash costume was leaked, some fans were alarmed by the new costume’s look.

Worse, some trolls decided to body-shame Gustin for his narrow build.

In response to the backlash, Gustin took to Instagram, writing: “So here’s the thing about this bulls–t photo leak.”

“It’s a cool suit,” Gustin affirms about his actual costume. “There’s a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted.”

“Some things need work and they will be worked on,” Gustin acknowledges. “We’ll get there.”

The Flash Costume Photo Leak

(So, again, this is not the final look — this is an image from a fitting)

“As far as the body shaming,” Gustin continues. “That’s what pisses me off. Not even just for my sake.”

“I’ve had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents that I was too thin,” Gustin shares.

That is awful. Unless someone is unhealthy, there is no such thing as too thin or whatever. And even if someone is unhealthily thin, that’s still nobody’s business.

“But there’s a double standard,” Gustin acknowledges. “Where it’s OK to talk s–t about a dude’s body.”

True. Though we should point out that, just weeks ago, other vicious trolls singled out his unbearably gorgeous costar, Candice Patton, and body-shamed her over an alleged weight gain.

“I do my best to stay in shape and add as much size as I can throughout these seasons,” Gustin shares.

Honestly, that’s really not necessary, and we’ll explain why in a bit.

“I’m naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress,” Gustin explains. “Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season.”

Some people stress-eat. Others can’t eat when they’re stressed.

Gustin explains: “Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me.”

“I didn’t cast a slim actor as The Flash,” Gustin explains. “I went to an audition for a role I never dreamed I’d actually book.”

“But, here I am 5 seasons later,” Gustin affirms. “I’m happy with my body and who I am.”

That is great!

“And,” Gustin continues. “Other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way.”

He’s right!

Gustin adds: “Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on TV or film or whatever it may be some day.”

“I love the suit that has been designed for me,” Gustin shares to reassure worried fans. “And I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too.”

Remember when some snapshots of the Titans cast leaked and fans were worried, but the photos were misleading and the real looks were revealed to be much better?

It sounds like this is happening again.

“Things have been adjusted since that leaked shot was taken,” Gustin promises. “And more things will continue to be adjusted until it feels right.”

Gustin also took to his Instagram stories to say: “F–k whoever leaked that.”

Gotta be honest, I’m a little behind on my Arrowverse shows — though I still know the spoilers. (Honestly, who didn’t know who Jessica Parker Kennedy was playing?)

But this case of body-shaming is especially odd because Flash is always, always supposed to be slimmer. He should have a track team build.

Unfortunately, a lot of television shows present male bodies in only one form, whether we’re talking about Teen Wolf of Arrow. Anybody else, even if large portions of the audience would find them attractive, keeps their shirt on.

This perpetuates the idea that there’s only one acceptable way to be attractive on camera.

Well, Flash is not supposed to be a “hunk.” He’s supposed to be a slender speedster.

But even if that were not the case, that would still be no excuse to body-shame anyone. Grant Gustin is a real person with real feelings.

And so, by the way, is Candice Patton.

So not only is there zero reason to body-shame either of them, but even if their bodies didn’t “look right,” you don’t get to ruin somebody’s day because their flesh prison isn’t shaped like you wish it were.

Other people don’t exist merely for your viewing pleasure.

We’re reasonably confident that the finished costume will look great. Even if it doesn’t, that won’t be the fault of any of the actors. Please be nice.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 17 Recap: Null and Annoyed

The Flash is morphing into a procedural, and that’s down to the tired old sub-plot surrounding the bus metas and how Team Flash has to find them before The Thinker strikes again.

When The Flash Season 4 Episode 17 kicked off, Ralph and Barry were thinking of ways to round up the remain metas, but the stretchy superhero decided to change things up.

As expected, this irked Barry and the scarlet speedster wasted no time in closing shutting the operation down because he was worried they were putting themselves in even more danger.

Barry fretted that Ralph was not taking the severity of the situation seriously, and wondered whether there was something bigger at play with him.

But Iris claimed it would all work out in the end. Barry seemed to think otherwise, but we’re sure we will get confirmation of that before long.

Just as Thinking Cap revealed the whereabouts of the final two metas, the two men set off on their mission to get the 11th meta before it was too late.

While it seemed like Barry worried about Ralph’s allegiance to the team, it became apparent that they trusted each other completely when Barry caught Barry who fell out of the sky.

The reason? Vampires had chased him, and he was not able to breach away. This is the man who threatened Cisco’s very existence for getting close to his daughter.

However, Cisco continued to prove he was one of the nicest people around and agreed to help the old man out of his pickle.

Caitlin was quick to point out that the issue plaguing Breacher was that his old age was catching up with him and he would not be able to continue fighting all of the crime.

Cisco was scared to say that to him and made him think he was all better. It was a silly, silly move, but it’s difficult to tell someone you think they’re old, right?

In any case, it caused more trouble because Breacher got caught up in another fight with Crucifer Luckily, he managed to find his way back to the lair, but he wanted answers.

Despite storming off upon hearing the truth, Breacher returned to let Cisco know he was retiring and that Cisco would make a great replacement for him.

Elsewhere, Marlize finally figured out that she was being drugged by the Weeper’s tears. The only way she felt she could stay sane was to record a video revealing all about it.

It was later revealed she had already done so several times, so she was much further gone than she first thought.

But Clifford showed up armed with the tears and Brainstorm’s DNA to make her listen to him. Oh yes, Marlize is definitely in for a tough time of it.

The biggest shocker was saved for the conclusion of the episode when Harry went into the Time Vault and accessed Gideon, who said that over 1000 days had passed since they last spoke …

Is Harry back to his wicked old ways?

The Flash Season 4 Episode 16 Recap: Run, Iris, Run

Iris West is awesome.

If you didn’t already know that before The Flash Season 4 Episode 16, then we’re sure you were chanting it from the rooftops in the aftermath of the explosive episode that found her suiting up.

Yes, it only took four years, but Iris finally got her chance to shine as a metahuman for one episode. This was all thanks to a meta from the bus who could transfer DNA.

Before we got to all of the fun, Wells rounded Team Flash up to introduce them to his cap that helps whoever is lucky to wear it become a whole lot smarter.

In order for the cap to work, the wearer would have to get close to a lot of dark matter, and that could spell a certain death. Cisco shut Wells down because he felt it would be a mission that would kill him.

This did not sit well with Ralph who was becoming more paranoid by the minute. If you watch The Flash online, you will know that The Thinker has been killing everyone from the bus to take their powers.

Ralph sulked but was told he would need to become The Thinker once again because the mayor wanted a meeting with the villain.

But things took a wild turn when a robber at the bank used his powers to break into the vault, but then an innocent person steals the powers from the robber with the powers.

That’s when the team realizes they are dealing with someone who can manipulate DNA. The man captured had no powers, so it made them all question what was coming next.

Ralph continued to float the idea of Wells wearing the hat, but the duo screwed up and it ended up on fire after a small test.

While that was going down, Joe and Iris made their way to the hospital to find someone named Matthew Kim, and he was scared the duo were trying to steal his powers.

That’s when he swapped their DNA and gave Iris some speedster abilities. After tests confirmed as much, Iris went on her way to save people in a fire-fueled building.

However, she got trapped in the building, and Cisco appeared in the nick of time to save her life.

When things got crazier, the team try to talk some sense into Matthew Kim, and they succeeded. He joined in the fight with them against the Thinker and gave Barry his powers back.

For Iris, this served as a catalyst for her returning to her old life as a journalist.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 4 Episode 15 Recap: Enter Flashtime

It was time to take back the streets of Central City.

When The Flash Season 4 Episode 15 kicked off, Barry rushed to Iris and admitted he could not save her this time.

Yes, we were totally wondering if we had missed the whole previous episode, but thankfully we were taken eight minutes into the past to get a nice dose of clarity.

Cisco and Iris were training Barry how to outrun DeVoe’s breaches, and this resulted in the happy couple taking a break to chat about their relationship.

That’s when Barry agreed they should go on a date because, well, they’ve barely had a second to spend together as a married couple.

That’s when Harry arrived and told them that Devoe had been planning to steal the powers form the bus metahumans for longer than they initially thought.

Jesse Quick appeared, and she wasted no time in grilling her dad about the way he’s dealing with her mother’s death.

However, they were interrupted by the revelation that a fight with guns had broken out. Just when it seemed like our team was winning the battle, a nuke was revealed.

Barry and Jesse conferred about what they could do to save everyone, and Jesse went to get Jay Garrick from Earth-3 because they both thought he would know something.

Cisco tried to send the nuke into another Earth, but not one with any life form. But Cisco could not handle the heat inside Flashtime and made his way back to the normal world.

Jay arrived on the scene and immediately felt that the mission could lead to the end of the Speed Force. That would mean no more speedsters.

He offered up some news that the nuke could be cooled down, and that could save everyone from a certain death.

Killer Frost offered to help out, but her powers were useless inside the Flashtime, so she was sent back to the regular world.

Iris told Barry about Caitlin using the quark sphere and that Barry should try to get that to drop the bomb. Barry entered the Force once again, and her plan worked.

Iris saved the day!

The big closing moment found the mystery girl in Jitters spilling coffees on Caitlin and Harry. The youngster said she was waiting to meet someone, but it was later revealed Caitlin and Harry were who she was talking about.

Let me present a theory: That girl is totally Barry and Iris’ child from another Earth. It’s uncanny, and we’re sure all will be revealed soon enough.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 14 Recap: DeVoe Claims a Victim

With DeVoe now looking to kill the rest of the metas from the bus, Team Flash knew it was time to find and save everyone.

When The Flash Season 4 Episode 14 got underway, the team got to work to find the next meta before DeVoe had the opportunity to strike.

Thanks to the bus, Ralph managed to find a music demo on, and it led them to a meta named Izzy. When the team caught up with her, they found out that she was an aspiring country singer.

She struggled to use her powers safely, and that was a big issue for her. She managed to make an exit away from the team … even after learning about DeVoe.

After some back and forth, the team tried checking the singer’s website and located her whereabouts. But DeVoe showed up when they got a lead on her.

DeVoe threatened the team, but Izzy proved her worth and used a power to send the villain flying away. This put him in a fragile state, but Marlize was on hand to take her man out of the situation.

Team Flash tried to tell Izzy that she needed to hide or she ran the risk of being murdered, but she felt like she was about to be discovered.

Who wants to be holed up in S.T.A.R. Labs when their big break could be coming?

Thanks (again!) to Ralph, Izzy decided to stick around because she felt like it was time to train and harness her powers in a manner that would allow her to stay safe.

Meanwhile, Harry tried to help Cecile with her newfound powers by creating a helmet that would suppress the powers, but they struggled to agree on the look of the device.

Ultimately, Izzy found herself out picking a fight with DeVoe. Barry and Ralph showed up, and another crazy battle ensued. Izzy got the device on DeVoe’s forehead.

The villain subsequently used all of it to his advantage and took over Izzy’s body and gained control of her powers. Yes, he now has SEVEN powers.

This dude is never going to stop!

Cisco realized that there was a way to track DeVoe’s lair, and if he did, the team would be able to zip with him and find out all they needed to know before it was too late.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 13 Recap: The Great Escape

Amunet continued to cause some trouble on The Flash Season 4 Episode 13 as she made her decision about Barry and the other metahumans holed up inside Iron Heights.

When the episode got underway, Cecile still had mind-reading abilities as a result of recent events and heard all about the warden’s plan to get rid of the metahumans and make a quick buck.

Thanks to Cisco, Ralph learned that he was able to shape-shift into anybody, but involved a whole lot of concentration. This gave Team Flash the leverage they needed to try and get something done about Barry.

Ralph tried to bring the deal between the warden and Amunet to a grinding halt, but things took a wild turn, and his likeness to the warden started to waver.

His failure only served to make Ralph question everything, and a chat with a former friend made him wonder whether leaving his life of crime behind was really the best foot forward.

Back inside the prison, Barry managed to escape from his cell after things got a little too convenient for him. The warden then dished to the others that Barry is the Flash.

While a debate ensued about who could really be trusted, DeVoe appeared and tried to take down everyone. However, he managed to take on the form of someone Barry grew close to.

Poor Becky.

Cisco and Killer Frost made their way to the scene of the crime and attempted to get Barry out of jail once and for all, but the fastest man alive was not ready to leave the life behind bars.

All was right, however, because Cecile went to the courthouse to appeal the ruling and she was greeted by none other than DeVoe. In reality, Ralph had taken on the appearance of the villain.

The judge is blindsided, but there’s nothing else that can be done, and Barry is officially let out of his jail cell, but will it be for good?

Marlize was not impressed with the way things were going, and DeVoe took notice of it. He didn’t want anyone to ruin their plans, so he slipped some drugs into her drink.

Yes, The Flash is trying to be a daytime soap opera, and we’re all for it. If it ups the ante, then who are we to judge?

While Team Flash celebrated their small victory, Barry got thinking about what was going to come next from the villain because it all seemed a little too easy.

The episode closed with Barry wondering if The Thinker is going to do something to Ralph. Worse than that, Ralph could have already been compromised.

And so, the big win became a great paranoia for some of the characters.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 12 Recap: Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash

What do you do when some of your team has been shrunk by a meta?

That was the thing much of the team questioned on The Flash Season 4 Episode 12 as Barry remained inside Iron Heights.

When the episode got underway, the mayor was proudly introducing the latest R&D facility that was secure against metas, because metas are all about destruction these days.

In a hilarious turn of events, the facility disappeared, and the mayor could only whine about hating the city.

While Joe and Cisco joined forces to find out what was really going on, they were asked by Barry to help him get Big Sir out of prison.

Wells felt like they needed to take it seriously because Barry has not asked for much since he was put in prison.

The meta they were looking for looked similar to Big Sir all those years ago. It was a little too convenient to take seriously, but logic has never stopped The Flash before.

When Ralph, Cisco, and Joe confront Rundin, he makes an exit into the alley below his apartment. That’s when he decided to shrink both Ralph and Cisco.

Ralph thought he could use his powers to help him back to his normal size, but it resulted in him sitting in pain. Wells made a big blunder and actually almost killed the two of them in the quest to save them.

While Barry tried to help Big Sir, the warden reiterated to him that a prisoner was once stabbed to death after unsuccessfully getting someone out.

Rundin tried to shrink Wells, but Cisco and Ralph were inside his pocket and it allowed them to return to full size and fight another day.

Rundin was not amused when he was arrested and refused to confess to the crime from all those years ago.

This meant Big Sir was not getting out of prison, but there was a big twist in store. The warden had installed a security camera in Barry’s cell and had confirmation that he was The Flash.

He hit up Amunet to let her know he had something great for her. Yeah, it looks like Barry is in the meta wing and he’s going to be in a lot of trouble if everyone fails to save him.

Elsewhere, Cecile was shocked that the dark matter in her brain interfered with her pregnancy in a big way.

She could hear the thoughts of other people, and she did not like what she heard.

Does this mean her child is going to have some sort of power?

We’ll need to wait to find out!

The Flash Season 4 Episode 11 Recap: The Elongated Knight Rises

Ralph is not as dumb as we first thought.

On The Flash Season 4 Episode 11, it was his turn to step up and defend the mean streets of Central City because the Flash was incarcerated.

When the episode opened, Ralph was going after Trickster, but he had to let Trickster get away because he was not strong enough to take the villain down.

That’s when Ralph met up with Barry in Iron Heights because he what he needed to do in order to be ruled a success story.

Barry was quick to point out that he was sometimes scared, but fear was not going to save lives, and it helped.

Ralph got a brand new suit that looked great. Cisco has the best one-liners and costumes. He’s an asset to the team.

The new costume and the pep talk from Barry gave Ralph what he needed to overpower both Trickster and Prank.

But Ralph still struggled because he did not have his own nickname of yet, and felt like it was the time he was given one.

“I’m elongated, man,” he sighed to his comrades.

When Cisco and Raph celebrated their win with some alcohol, they struggled because they did not have any cash on them to pay for the drinks.

In a surprising move, the waitress from Barry and Iris’ wedding appeared and paid the tab for them. Could this chick be Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future?

The woman subsequently wrote in a journal and scribbled the symbols Barry covered the CCPD walls with when he made his way back from the Speed Force.

Coincidence? We think not.

Meanwhile, in Iron Heights, Barry was having a tough time. Not everyone was impressed to have him in prison and, the rougher inmates wanted to, well, rough him up.

Big Sir appeared and wanted to keep Barry safe on the inside, and he had a connection to Henry, so that was part of the reason why the man wanted to keep him safe.

The good thing about being in prison was that it gave Barry free reign to attack the bad guys with his speedster powers. We’re sure they will be rehabilitated in no time.

Then, there was an emotional meet-up between Barry and Iris. The pair were struggling to go on. They’ve had a horrible post-wedding life.

Thankfully, Barry used his powers to go through the glass, and it allowed the husband and wife to touch each other once again.

How long will the prison storyline go on? We have no idea, but we’re kind of digging it.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 10 Recap: The Trial of The Flash

Did Barry Allen manage to find a way to save himself from a lengthy stint in prison?

That was the big question on The Flash Season 4 Episode 10, and things did not look good for him when the episode kicked off. Cecile took a leave of absence from the DA’s office.

Anton Slater was on hand to take Barry down in the courtroom. Let’s just say things were not looking good after a knife was entered into evidence. The same knife someone bought Barry and Iris for their wedding.

This gave Anton the ultimate leverage because he essentially said nothing was sacred to Barry, and it helped turn the jurors against the speedster. Barry had a severe lack of defense.

It was painful to watch because we know that DeVoe and his sidekick cooked up the plan because DeVoe needed the new body to become The Thinker.

Given that everyone in the courtroom was turning against Barry, the team needed to act fast. Ralph managed to get pictures of Marlize kissing The Thinker, and they were presented to the court.

But Marlize knew how to weather the storm and said that her husband sent her to the man because he could fulfill needs that DeVoe could not. It was all very believable, and it proved something bigger was needed to get Barry out of the clutches of the law.

Cecil admitted that the only for Barry to be set free was for him to confirm the truth, but Barry was against the idea of it. He felt like nobody would take him seriously if they knew who he was.

That’s when Iris decided to take it upon herself to tell the world the truth, but Barry stopped her at the last second and used a new speed trick to have a full blown conversation with her in the courtroom.

He did not want to put his loved ones in any danger and felt like everyone would be on the run and look over their shoulders. It would make more sense for Barry to let the iron fist of justice have its way.

In the end, Barry was found guilty of murder and was shocked to find out that he would be spending the rest of his life in Iron Heights without parole. This was met with floods of tears from Iris.

Barry argued with DeVoe before sentencing, and DeVoe said that there was no way Barry and his group could have won, but Barry said that he would find a way to save himself and his friends.

In a poignant turn, Barry was sent to the same cell his father was in all those years ago.

The Flash Recap: Who Got Married? Who Died?

DC TV’s Crisis on Earth-X concluded Tuesday night, and it did so in crazy fashion.

When The Flash Season 4 Episode 8 got underway, the teams were still very much split up. Half of them were in Earth-X, and the rest were holed up in the walls of S.T.A.R. Labs.

The heroes on Earth-X geared up to be executed, but Leonard Snart-X aka Leo appeared and saved them right in the nick of time, and it became apparent why. His boyfriend, The Ray was holed up with them.

Leo and The Ray decided to help the heroes get back to their world before Supergirl was murdered and her heart removed for the Nazi version of the superhero.

However, General Schott, the Earth-X version of Supergirl’s Winn was against the idea and wanted the only pathway home for the heroes blown up before weapons that could affect other worlds.

Leo and The Ray managed to talk him around after Maggie tried and failed to play the “I know you from my Earth” card. So, the team set off for the device to get home, but they had to go up against a multitude of villains.

Oliver took on the role of his Earth-X counterpart and got access to the compound, and while his plan was working, he was forced to shoot the Earth-X version of Felicity.

This made everyone realize what was going on, and the jig was up. Oliver managed to take down the men inside, but when the other heroes appeared, it became clear they were not making it out without a fight.

Winn-X called to say he was sending a weapon to destroy the device because there was no more time and the worlds were at stake. The Ray and The Flash went to do battle with the weapon, and they struggled to overpower it.

In the midst of the battle back at the building, Stein saw an opportunity to emerge from the shadows and open the portal to allow them to get through. He was shot several times and bled out on the floor.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 Episode 9 picked up in the immediate aftermath and Stein was bleeding out while the battle continued. When they made it through, Jax canceled the connection to Stein and he was in a bad way.

Gideon could not save him, and it quickly became clear his time on the Earth was over. Stein let himself die, and Jax revealed the truth to his wife and daughter. They all embraced in a beautiful scene.

Ray Palmer helped Supergirl escape just in the nick of time, and Supergirl took the Earth-X version of the city, and the villain exploded. Oliver then put an arrow through Oliver-X’s heart.

In the end, everyone attended the funeral for Stein and then made their way back to their respective planets. But Leo opted to stay behind and sent The Ray home.

Barry then went to get Diggle to ordain his vows to Iris so they could get married, and Felicity decided she wanted to marry Oliver. They had a double wedding that was attended by five, including those who were getting married.

So the two power couples are officially hitched, but the trouble will not be dying down for them anytime soon.

What did you think of the crossover?
