The Bachelor Recap: Wrestling For Roses

If The Bachelor spoilers have taught us anything, it’s that every season has a hero, a villain and some absolutely shocking twists.

Okay, maybe they’re not all that shocking, but they’re head-turning enough to be dubbed the FIRST IN BACHELOR HISTORY.

This week didn’t offer too many jaw-droppers, though it did get us one week closer to finding out who wins The Bachelor 2018.

The first group date on this third episode of the season was brought to you by the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, or GLOW.

Naturally, the reality show spun this into its own acronymed offshoot entitled GLOB, or the Gorgeous Ladies of The Bachelor.

Grab some Advil, as the eye-rolling may be so persistent and extreme that it actually gives you a minor headache after awhile.

Maquel, Jacqueline, Lauren B., Tia, Marikh, Bekah M., Bibiana and Krystal were coached by veterans of the original GLOW.

After plenty of tough love from the coaches and a few tears, the women got in the ring and channeled their pro wrestling alter egos.

It was actually somewhat entertaining at times, but the levity was short-lived after the group date when Krystal “stole” Arie.

Yes, she pulled that s–t again.

Bibiana tried to tell him about the drama with Krystal, but he was unmoved, and at the end of the date, Bekah M. got the rose.

Lauren S. got the one-on-one date this week (there was only one of them) and spent it at a Napa Valley winery with Arie.

Sounds awesome, but it wasn’t. The date was one of the most awkward on the show in some time, and she left with no rose.

Lauren S.’s departure was a topic of discussion back at the house, and naturally Krystal made more enemies taking about it.

The next group date featured more trauma for Annaliese, who moved from last week’s “bumper car trauma” to a fear of dogs.

Oh yes, the group date – in which the girls and Arie got to partake in dog-show tricks with a group of pups – was scary for her.

Fortunately, Annaliese overcame her rough experience with a dog in her childhood and was determined to kiss Arie at the end.

Not that he seemed interested, but whatever. At least she hung tough while Chelsea received the coveted group date rose.

At the cocktail party, Bibiana and Annaliese were getting increasingly antsy to get a rose or a kiss or an acknowledgement from Arie.

They came up empty on all fronts.

Annaliese finally caught up to Arie and mentioned how many other girls had kissed him. His response to that obvious invite?

“I just don’t think we’re there yet.”

Ouch. Annaliese’s feelings were hurt, and he followed that up by sending her home on the spot when she wanted answers.

At the rose ceremony, Arie sent Bibiana packing, rounding out the night with three eliminations on this leg of the journey.

Bobby Heenan Dies; Wrestling Legend Was 73 Years Old

Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, a world famous wrestling manager and announcer, died on Sunday, according to WWE.com and other reliable sources.

He was 73 years old.

heenan

Heenan is considered the best known and most successful ringside manager in the history of professional wrestling.

Following his run in this role, “The Brain” transitioned to the announcing booth, which is where he concluded a career that spanned over four decades.

The sad news was announced on Sunday by another legend in the business, Jim Ross.

“The news of Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan’s passing today gutted me. I loved our time together. No one ever did it better than the Wease,” Tweeted the former play-by-play man and current WWE executive.

Ric Flair was among the veterans who also passed along his condolences and dismay upon learning of Heenan’s death.

“Bobby Heenan… The Greatest Manager, One Of The Greatest Announcers, And One Of The Best In-Ring Performers In The History Of The Business,” wrote Flair on Twitter.

Ricf tweet

Heenan came up as a wrestler and manager through the 1960s and 1970s in the World Wrestling Association, American Wrestling Association and later the World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment).

He managed superstars over the years such as Angelo Poffo, Guy Mitchell, the Valiant Brothers, Nick Bockwinkel, Jesse Ventura and Andre the Giant.

In 2004, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, two years after being diagnosed with throat cancer.

Along with his time in the WWE, “The Brain” was part of the original broadcast team for Monday Night Raw in 1993; and also sat at the announce table for both Raw and WCW Monday Nitro.

He was widely respected by every organization he worked with and every wrester with whom he came into contact.

I was “allowed to express myself and bring my comedy into a business I often thought needed a kick in the pants and a couple of smiles,” Heenan once said of his unique role.

Indeed, few people in wrestling history can say they remained in the industry for as long as Heenan…

… or can say they played such a prominent part in so many different aspects of the business; from wrestling to managing to announcing.

After news of his death spread, many current and former wrestlers took to social media to share message of sorrow. For example:

We share these sentiments.

We send our best wishes to the loved ones of Bobby Heenan.

May he rest in peace.

Ric Flair Undergoes Surgery, Family of Wrestling Star Asks for Prayers

Ric Flair is out of surgery.

But likely not out of the woods just yet.

The legendary wrestler – whose career has spanned decades and who some consider to be the best in-ring performer of all-time – was placed in a medically-induced coma on Monday, according to WWE radio host Peter Rosenberg.

The 68-year-old icon was admitted to the hospital early Saturday morning, although the reason why is unclear at the moment.

All we can say is that the condition worsened over the course of about 48 hours, resulting in a significant procedure earlier today.

CEO of Legacy Talent LLC Melinda Morris Zanoni asked for prayers and support for Flair on Twitter overnight Sunday after her friend was admitted for what Zanoni originally called “routine monitoring.”

However, Flair’s stay in the intensive care unit now appears to have been for something far more serious.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that the surgery was heart-related, which makes sense: in his memoir, Flair wrote that he has had alcohol-related issues with this vital organ.

Rory Karpf, who worked on  ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary on Flair, which is set to premiere in November, also tweeted to ask people to keep the veteran star in their prayers and thoughts.

Known as The Nature Boy, Flair worked over the years for NWA, WCW and WWE. He won a total of 31 championship belts over his career.

His last official match in the WWE took place in 2008, when he lost to Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV.

Flair was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the same year.

He has remained in the wrestling spotlight since, however, most recently as a manager for his daughter, Charlotte, who is a four-time WWE RAW Women’s champion.

TMZ reports that Flair is out of surgery and that he is resting comfortably.

At last check, his family members were waiting to talk to the doctors about the results and the next steps.

UPDATE: Zanoni has Tweeted again, saying that the surgery was NOT a heart procecure…

We’ll keep readers apprised of this unfortunate situation and we’ll keep Flair in our thoughts.

We hope he pulls through and recovers quickly.
