Kate Middleton: (British) Vogue Cover Girl!

Anna Wintour has tried sohard to land the Duchess of Cambridge on the cover of American Vogue.

Instead, Her Royal Highness chose to mark the collaboration between the National Portrait Gallery and British Vogue, celebrating the magazine"s 100th anniversary.

Catherine posed for ten portraits, available when the issue hits newsstands on May 5th.  Two of them, shot by photographer Josh Olins, are currently on display at the gallery, of which HRH is a patron.

This is Catherine"s first-ever magazine cover; she follows in the footsteps of the Princess of Wales, Princess Anne and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

Rumor has it that American Vogue editor-in-chief has been trying relentlessly to land Catherine as a cover girl since 2011. “Anna has been speaking to Mario [Testino] about winning over Kate,” a source told Page Six that year. “She is really pressing him to shoot Kate for the cover.”
