Megyn Kelly: Dropped by Advertisers, Benefit Gala Over Alex Jones Interview!
Megyn Kelly’s interview with famous jerk and creator of Infowars Alex Jones hasn’t even aired yet and it’s already mired in controversy.
The contentiousness of the decision to interview such a man hasn’t gone unnoticed. Advertisers have been fleeing to the hills.
And now Megyn Kelly’s been asked to step down from hosting a Sandy Hook benefit … because Alex Jones and his people famously declared that the Sandy Hook mass shooting was a hoax.
Tomorrow, Sandy Hook Promise, a major gun violence-prevention organization, holds its annual Champions Promise Gala, where Megyn was originally supposed to emcee.
She has now been asked to step down from that role.
In case there was any doubt as to why she’s being bumped, Sandy Hook Promise issued this statement:
“This decision was spurred by NBC’s planned broadcast of Kelly’s interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who believes the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, was a hoax.”
Yeah, we can absolutely see how that would rub grieving parents the wrong way.
“Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host. It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview.”
That’s pretty understandable.
Networks care about image, but only up to a certain point and only as a means to an end.
What most of them really care about is ratings and advertisers, and the ratings only because they attract more money from advertisers.
While some controversies and drive up viewers, some businesses do not want to risk the association and pull their ads — which is exactly what’s happening here.
J.P. Morgan Chase has pulled its ads from NBC — not just for Megyn’s timeslot — until after the interview is scheduled to air on June 18th.
J.P. Morgan Chase’s chief marketing officer tweeted that she was “repulsed” that Alex Jones would receive airtime.
Alex Jones, for his part, has already declared to his followers that the interview will be “fake news” and that “they’re scared of what we’re covering.”
As always with conspiracy theorists, the use of “they” could mean anything from “the establishment” to Illuminati lizard people, which are often just one and the same.
Everybody learns of the existence of Alex Jones and Infowars in their own way.
Have you ever made the mistake of looking up something without paying attention to where you were looking it up?
I did, a few years back. I looked up some dumb movie — Transcendence — for an analysis of its portrayal of transhumanism.
The first couple of paragraphs just summarized the film, and the next one briefly defined transhumanism — it’s basically just technology making our lives longer and better.
The next paragraph, and in fact the rest of the article, was talking about how this film was made as part of some diabolical campaign to “prepare” the public for transhumanism, though it would only be reserved for “global elites.”
That was when I looked up at where Google results had taken me — it was Infowars. Other articles discussed various vague and elaborate “plots” that involved various innocuous elements of pop culture and politics. I’d quickly had my fill of nonsense.
These days, the far-right fringe conspiracy site is much better known.
From a viral video of Alex Jones decrying that he doesn’t “like ‘em putting chemicals in the water that turn the friggin’ frogs gay!” to the disturbing links between Infowars and Donald Trump, people these days are much more familiar.
Unfortunately, a huge part of that is because of ironically named “Sandy Hook Truthers” who deny that the Sandy Hook mass shooting took place, and instead insist that the children never existed and that the very real grieving parents are paid actors.
That’s a lot more upsetting than a dumb theory about a dumb movie.
So Megyn Kelly choosing to interview Alex Jones has her on blast for giving the guy a platform.
Parents who are still — and will always be — grieving don’t want to see see anyone even seem to give credibility to the guy who’s claims that their children never existed.
It’s one thing to interview Putin, who’s terrible but can’t be ignored.
It’s another thing to give a platform to Alex Jones.
But, at the same time, we have to wonder if she could do more good by exposing Alex Jones for exactly the sort of man he is.
Especially since Alex Jones has been praised by Donald Trump and Infowars has been given White House press credentials, as if they were a real news organization.
One thing’s for sure — this interview’s going to get a lot more viewers due to all of the controversy. People will want to see what all of the fuss is about.
Assuming that NBC doesn’t pull it entirely.

Ariana Grande Still Playing Benefit Concert After Last Night"s Terrorist Attack
As you’ve surely heard by now, the UK was hit by yet another terrorist attack last night.
Three men men drove a van onto London Bridge, hitting pedestrians before they jumped out and began stabbing people.
Seven people were killed and 48 were injured. The terrorists were shot and killed by police when they arrived on the scene.
It sounds absolutely horrifying, and it’s especially scary considering the Manchester attack that happened less than two weeks ago.
On May 22nd, a suicide bomber entered an Ariana Grande concert, setting off a nail bomb that killed 22 people. Countless others were injured.
Ariana was understandably devastated by what happened, but she still managed to pull together, along with her team, to plan a benefit concert for the victims and their families.
The concert will take place back in Manchester, and Ariana will perform, along with Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Coldplay, Niall Horan, Usher, Robbie Williams, Little Mix, the Black Eyed Peas, and Pharrell Williams.
Anyone who attended her original Manchester concert can get in for free, and all proceeds will go to a fund set up for the people who were injured and the families of the people who were killed.
The concert was scheduled for tonight … but will it go on in light of last night’s attack in London?
According to Ariana’s manager, Scooter Braun, absolutely it will.
Here’s the statement he released in full:
After the events last night in London, and those in Manchester just two weeks ago, we feel a sense of responsibility to honor those lost, injured, and affected.
We plan to honor them with courage, bravery, and defiance in the face of fear. Today’s One Love Manchester benefit concert will not only continue, but will do so with greater purpose.
We must not be afraid and in tribute to all those affected here and around the world, we will bring our voices and sing loudly.
I am pleased to say we have the full support of Greater Manchester Police and the government and are assured the safety of all those attending is the highest priority.
All artists involved have been unwavering in their support this morning and are determined to carry on with the show.
We ask the strong city of Manchester and the world to join us in making the statement that hatred and fear will never win. Today we stand together.
Thank you.
For their part, Manchester police have said that they’ll be thoroughly searching everyone coming into the concert.
Ariana, meanwhile, has been in Manchester for a few days, visiting her fans who were injured during the original attack.
Last night, she tweeted that she was “praying for London,” and this morning she’s been promoting tonight’s show.
The concert will be televised in several countries, and any money earned from this will also go to the victims.
It’s an amazing thing that Ariana and all these people are doing, and a very brave thing as well.

Ariana Grande Vows Return to Manchester, Plans Benefit Concert
Ariana Grande hasn’t just spoken out once again in response to the bombing that killed 22 of her fans this past Monday night.
She’s spoken out in defiance.
In brave, admirable, impressive defiance.
Shortly after the mass murder in Manchester this week, Grande took to Twitter and simply wrote that she was “broken.”
She sent her apologies to all affected by the heinous terrorist act, but, really, what else could she say at that time?
Nothing. Not really. Not anything that could be of any real use or assistance or comfort to families that lost their children at her concert.
Now, however, the 23-year old star has issued her longest and most heartfelt response yet to the unimaginable event.
As you’ve likely read all about by now, a suicide bomber (with alleged ties to ISIS) detonated a nail bomb around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, targeting attendees as they left Grande’s show.
The dead ranged in age from 8 to 50, with Grande canceling upcoming European tour dates in response and asking everyone to keep these victims in their thoughts and prayers.
Again, what else could she really say?
After a few days home with her boyfriend and her family, however, Grande has formulated somewhat of a plan.
She has once again extended her condolences to everyone impacted by this massacre, but she’s also stood strong in the face of such terrorist actions.
And she’s made it clear that she won’t let hate defeat love.
“My heart, prayers and deepest condolences or with the victims of the Manchester Attack and their loved ones,” Grande writes to open her new message, adding:
“There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.
“However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.”
Grande goes on to explain her plans, saying she’ll return to Manchester at some point down the line and she will once again perform in this beloved city.
She’ll raise money for the families of the victims and she will try as hard as she can to serve as a positive role model in these trying times.

The only thing we can do now is choose how we let this affect us and how we live our lives from here on out. I have been thinking of my fans, and of all of you, nonstop over the past week.
The way you have handled all of this has been more inspiring and made me more proud than you’ll ever know. The compassion, kindness, love, strength and oneness that you’ve shown one another this past week is the exact opposite of the heinous intentions it must take to pull off something as evil as what happened on Monday.
YOU are the opposite.
I am sorry for the pain and fear that you must be feeling and for the trauma that you, too, must be experiencing.
We will never be able to understand why events like this take place because it is not in our nature, which is why we shouldn’t recoil. We will not quit or operate in fear. We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win.
I don’t want to go the rest of the year without being able to see and hold and uplift my fans, the same way they continue to uplift me. Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously then we did before.
I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families.
I want to think my fellow musicians and friends for reaching out to be a part of our expression of love from Manchester.
I will have details to share with you as soon as everything is confirmed.
In conclusion, Grande writes:
From the day we started putting the ‘Dangerous Woman Tour’ together, I said that this show, more than anything else, was intended to be a safe space for my fans.
A place for them to escape, to celebrate, to heal, to feel safe and to be themselves. To meet their friends they’ve made online. To express themselves. This will not change that.
When you look into the audience at my shows, you see a beautiful, diverse, pure, happy crowd. Thousands of people, incredibly different, all there for the same reason, music.
Music is something that everyone on Earth can share. Music is meant to heal us, to bring us together, to make us happy. So that is what it will continue to do for us. We will continue in honor of the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy.
They will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life.

Beyonce and Mariah Carey Look STUNNING Together at LA Benefit
While many celebs were attending Kanye West’s fashion show and album reveal in New York, Yeezy’s friend Beyonce was glamming it up with Mariah Carey at the HeartView Global Foundation benefit in LA.
The gal pals were positively glowing in a photo Mariah posted to Twitter, who tweeted, “Two girls, one cause.”
Bey slayed in a white gown adorned with a shoulder-hugging cape and Mariah rocked a nude-colored, sparkly lace dress that flaunted her famous curves.
And yes, you can catch a glimpse of Mariah’s much-talked about 35 carat engagement ring, which may or may not have required its own seat at the benefit.
Both ladies have had quite the year so far.
Beyonce made many a headline early in the week when she basically won the Super Bowl with her jaw-dropping halftime performance of “Formation” (even though a few bellyachers had to be total sour pusses about it).
Three weeks ago, Mariah got engaged to billionaire James Packer, who presented her with the aforementioned diamond boulder that’s likely giving her left bicep muscles a killer workout.
The HeartView Global Foundation aims to combat heart disease by promoting a heart-healthy, plant-based diet. Both Beyonce and Mariah have both followed vegetarian/vegan diets in the past.
