Charlie Rose: FIRED by CBS!

Well, that didn’t take long.

Less than a day after a report in The Washington Post outlined various ways in which Charlie Rose allegedly harassed eight different women, the veteran journalist has been fired by CBS.

Rose had been suspended by both CBS and PBS immediately after the aforementioned allegations were made public.

These allegations were leveled by victims who claimed, among other explicit behavior, that Rose:

  • Walked around naked in front of them.

  • Grabbed their buttocks at staff parties.

  • Ran his hand up their thigh.

  • Placed inappropriate phone calls.

In response, CBS News President David Rhodes now confirms the following:

“A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News effective immediately.

“This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program.”

Rhodes went on to say he was “deeply disappointed and angry” about the situation, adding:

“Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a sage, professional workplace – a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work.

“We need such a place.”

You can read the full firing statement below:

CBS statement

Rose issued his own statement in reply to The Washington Post bombshell.

It only denied a small part (and nothing specific) of what the women accused him off, saying in further detail:

“It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior.

“I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.

“I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.

“I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too.

“All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives.”

Rose, 75, was the host of his own interview show on PBS at the time of these allegations.

He was also the co-host of CBS This Morning.

His fellow co-hosts, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, made heartfelt speeches at the outset of today’s program, addressing the awkward circumstances.

As you can see below, both seem legitimately affected by what has transpired with their colleague and friend:

Said O’Donnell:

“This is a moment that demands a frank and honest assessment about where we stand and more generally the safety of women.

Let me be very clear:

There is no excuse for this alleged behavior. It is systematic and pervasive and I’ve been doing a lot of listening and I’m going to continue to do that.

This I know is true: Women cannot achieve equality in the workplace or in society until there is a reckoning and a taking of responsibility.

I am really proud to work at CBS News. There are so many incredible people here, especially on this show — all of you here.

This will be investigated. This has to end. This behavior is wrong. Period.

Very well said.

Charlie Rose: Slammed by His Own CBS Colleagues

Gayle King and Norah O"Donnell have sat alongside Charlie Rose for the past five years on CBS This Morning.

But the co-hosts greeted viewers today as a duo, as opposed to a threesome, as a result of Rose being suspended by network executives in light of a disturbing sexual harassment scandal.

According to The Washington Post, eight women have come forward and accused Rose of various inappropriate actions; from walking around naked in front of them to grabbing their buttocks and thighs.

Unprompted, of course.

It"s hard to believe the 75-year old will ever be on the small screen again.

In response to the scandal surrounding their colleague, King and O"Donnell delivered heartfelt speeches in support of Rose’s alleged victims, making it evident they won"t tolerate that sort of behavior moving forward.

"It takes a lot of courage for these women to come forward and I think that they should continue to do so,” O’Donnell said at the outset of the program.

She added:

“This is a moment that demands a frank and honest assessment about where we stand and more generally the safety of women. Let me be very clear: There is no excuse for this alleged behavior.

"It is systematic and pervasive and I’ve been doing a lot of listening and I’m going to continue to do that."

Clearly torn over a friend being accused of such heinous behavior, O"Donnell made her stance on the situation very clear:

"This will be investigated. This has to end. This behavior is wrong.”

King was no less harsh in her assessment of Rose.

"I am not okay," she told viewers.

"After reading that article in the Post, it was deeply disturbing, troubling and painful for me to read.”

Rose is merely the latest Hollywood male to be accused of sexual harassment or misconduct.

More and more alleged victims are feeling empowered to speak out in the wake of Harvey Weinstein being accused of assault and harassment.

“I think that we have to make this matter to woman — the woman that have spoken up, the women who have not spoken up because they are afraid, I’m hoping that now they will take the step to speak up too and that this becomes a moment of truth,” King continued.

Emphasizing that Rose "does not get a pass" of any kind, King added:

"I’ve enjoyed a friendship and a partnership with Charlie for the last 5 years. I’ve held him in such high regard.

"What do you say when someone that you deeply care about has done something that is so horrible? How do you wrap your brain around that?

"I’m really grappling with that."

Charlie Rose Responds to Allegations of Pervasive Sexual Harassment

The long and heretofore illustrious career of Charlie Rose may be over.

The veteran journalist has been suspended by PBS and CBS amidst accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct.

The accusations have been made by eight different women.

In a bombshell report published on Monday by The Washington Post, these alleged victims shared eerily similar stories about how the reporter would act in horribly inappropriate ways toward them.

There are accusations that Rose would place sexually explicit phone calls… expose his genitalia… and grope the women without their permission.

Three of the women spoke on the record, while five spoke on the condition of anonymity.

But all expressed stories that detailed how Rose would either walk out of a shower, naked, in their presence; and/or would grope their buttocks at company parties; and/or place his hand on their upper thigh, awaiting a reaction.

Said Reah Bravo, who worked as an intern and then associate producer for Rose’s PBS show beginning in 2007:

“It has taken 10 years and a fierce moment of cultural reckoning for me to understand these moments for what they were.

“He was a sexual predator, and I was his victim.”

The women were employees or aspired to work for Rose at The Charlie Rose Show from the late 1990s to as recently as 2011.

They ranged in age from 21 to 37 at the time of the reported encounters.

Rose is 75 years old and his one-on-one interview program airs on PBS and Bloomberg TV.

He also co-hosts CBS This Morning and is a contributing correspondent for 60 Minutes.

“In my 45 years in journalism, I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked,” Rose said in a statement to the Washington Post, adding:

“Nevertheless, in the past few days, claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues.”

He continued as follows:

It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior.

I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.

I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.

I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too.

All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives.

Shortly after news of Rose’s allegations broke, PBS announced it is stopping production on the anchor’s self-titled program.

Meanwhile, CBS News has also suspended him from his regular duties.

Rose is the latest major name to be accused of sexual harassment or misconduct.

Several weeks ago, allegations of assault were leveled by countless women against movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

Since then, women around the country have been empowered to speak up, with stories popping up nearly everyday about allegedly heinous acts committed by such stars as Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K. and Jeffrey Tambor.

We salute these victims for coming forward.

Corey Haim"s Mother: Charlie Sheen Did NOT Rape My Son!

Earlier this week, Hollywood was stunned by allegations that Charlie Sheen had raped the late actor Corey Haim on the set of the 1986 film Lucas.

The reports came from The National Enquirer, but while the tabloid has a famously tenuous relationship with journalistic integrity, the Sheen exposé meshed with a number of established facts about Haim and his tragic downward spiral.

Haim’s lifelong friend and frequent co-star Corey Feldman had previously revealed in his memoir that Haim was sexually assaulted by a famous older male on the set of Lucas.

(Sheen was 19 when he made the film, Haim just 14.)

The Enquirer‘s sources on the story were former colleagues of Haim’s such as actor Dominic Brascia, a fellow actor who claimed Haim spoke openly of being molested by Sheen in the years leading up to his death at age 38:

“Haim told me he had sex with Sheen when they filmed Lucas,” Brascia told the Enquirer.

“He told me they smoked pot and had sex. He said they had anal sex. Haim said after it happened Sheen became very cold and rejected him.”

Now, however, the claims made by Brascia and several others are being disputed by Corey’s mother, Judy Haim, who says she knows with absolute certainty that Sheen was not her son’s attacker:

“My son never mentioned Charlie. We never talked about Charlie. It was all made up,” Judy tells Entertainment Tonight.

“If my son was here to hear all of this he would throw up.”

Judy adds that her son was known for his bluntness and candor, and the fact she considers the fact that he never mentioned being abused by Sheen as sufficient evidence that the assault never happened:

“I lived with [Corey] in Canada half the time. I knew exactly where this kid was at all times,” Judy tells TE. “I’m fed up … because you know what, my heart can’t take it. I’m his mother, I’m mourning. My family is freaked out all the way to Israel.”

Corey’s best friends are freaking out. They’re going, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ They all know the truth because my son had a very big mouth,” she adds.

“Every time he had an interview he told everybody what drugs he was on, what he was doing. We’ve never heard of Charlie, ever.”

Judy goes on to address Sheen directly, assuring the actor that she is certain of his innocence:

“I will say to Charlie, ‘I don’t know you. I don’t know what people are guilty or not guilty,"” Judy says.

“‘All I know is that from my standpoint I’ve never heard my son mention anything about you. We never talked about you since Lucas. I feel bad because this is a big problem in Hollywood and all over the world.”

Judy goes on to address the ongoing problem of rampant sexual misconduct in Hollywood, saying:

“I hope it can be straightened out and I hope that the people that actually have done harm to others are going to be paying the price at the very end of the day.”

For his part, Sheen addressed the allegations through a statement from his publicist, which states that the actor “categorically denies” the allegations detailed by the Enquirer.

We will have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.

Charlie Sheen Breaks Silence on Corey Haim Rape Charge

Charlie Sheen has issued a response to a very troubling allegation.

Earlier this week, The National Enquirer spoke to Dominick Brascia, who was a close friend of Corey Haim’s before Haim passed away in 2010.

Charlie Sheen movie set

And Brascia right came out and accused Sheen of raping Haim when the latter was only 13 years old.

“Haim told me he had sex with Sheen when they filmed Lucas,” Brascia told the tabloid about Haim, who died at the age of 38.

Added Brascia:

“He told me they smoked pot and had sex. He said they had anal sex. Haim said after it happened Sheen became very cold and rejected him.

“When Corey wanted to fool around again, Charlie was not interested.”

Haim and Sheen starred opposite each other in the 1986 film Lucas.

According to Brascia, they had another very personal interaction years after the movie was finished:

“Haim told me he had sex with Sheen again. He claimed he didn’t like it and was finally over Sheen. He said Charlie was a loser.”

Now, in response to this disturbing charge, a spokesperson for Sheen has stated the following:

[Sheen] absolutely denies the claim.

Sheen was diagnosed with HIV in 2015 and has a well-known history of using drugs and sleeping around.

This, of course, does not mean that the allegations related to Haim are automatically true or anything.

This story, however, emerges four years after Corey Feldman made allegations in his 2013 memoir that he and Haim had been sexually abused by some in the entertainment industry.

“There are people that did this to me and Corey that are still working, they’re still out there, and they’re some of the most rich and powerful people in this business,” Feldman said on The View while promoting the book, adding at the time:

“And they do not want what I’m saying right now. They want me dead.”

In this same Enquirer article, a friend of Sheen’s says the actor has admitted to sex with Haim, but told the friend that the intercourse was consensual.

If such an interaction did take place, however, Haim would have been too young in 1986 to give legal consent.

Meanwhile, this is what Feldman wrote in his aforementioned book about Lucas:

“At some point during the filming, [Haim] explained an adult male convinced him it was perfectly normal for older men and younger boys in the business to have sexual relations, that it was ‘what all guys do."”

Feldman does not mention Sheen by name in the memoir.

Two years before its publication, though, he said in an interview that he’s “not a big fan” of Sheen’s due to the way he’s “affected other people that I know.”

Charlie Sheen Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old Corey Haim (Report)

Shocking news out of Hollywood today, as a new report from The National Enquirer claims that Charlie Sheen raped late actor Corey Haim when the latter was just 13 years old.

The alleged abuse took place on the set of the 1986 film Lucas, in which Haim co-starred with Sheen.

“Haim told me he had sex with Sheen when they filmed Lucas,” actor Dominick Brascia tells the Enquirer in an interview published moments ago.

“He told me they smoked pot and had sex. He said they had anal sex. Haim said after it happened Sheen became very cold and rejected him. When Corey wanted to fool around again, Charlie was not interested,” Brascia adds.

Brascia tells the tabloid that shortly before Haim’s untimely death at the age of 38, the actor began speaking openly about the abuse he suffered at Sheen’s hands.

“Haim told me he had sex with Sheen again,” Brascia says.

“He claimed he didn’t like it and was finally over. He said Charlie was a loser.”

Reports of Haim suffering sexual abuse as a minor have been circulating for years, and at one point, Brascia was falsely identified as his rapist.

The Enquirer claims to have conducted an “exhaustive probe” into Sheen’s alleged abuse, gathering testimony from more than 100 individuals who say they have knowledge of the actor’s sexual misconduct.

“Corey was so confused by the sexual encounter he believed, like so many victims, he was ‘in love’ with his abuser,” says one Haim confidant who prefers to remain anonymous.

A former friend of Sheen’s tells The Enquirer that the actor admitted to intercourse with Haim, but claims the sex was consensual.

Of course, if Brascia’s timeline is accurate, then the sexual encounter occurred when Haim was not at an age where he was able to give consent.

The allegations are consistent with a situation that Haim’s lifelong friend, Corey Feldman, described in a 2013 memoir.

“At some point during the filming [of ‘Lucas,’ Haim] explained an adult male convinced him it was perfectly normal for older men and younger boys in the business to have sexual relations, that it was ‘what all guys do,"” Feldman wrote.

Feldman never mentioned Sheen by name, but he did reveal his feelings toward the controversial Two And a Half Men star in a 2011 interview:

“I’m not a huge fan of Charlie Sheen…especially the way he’s affected other people that I know,” Feldman said at the time.

Feldman has long maintained that sexual abuse is “the number one problem” in Hollywood, and the events of recent weeks have sadly proven the actor right.

Currently, Sheen has yet to comment on the allegations against him.

We will have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
