Meghan King Edmonds: I"m Pregnant!

Though rumors continue to swirl that she could be one of the stars of The Real Housewives of Orange County getting fired, Meghan King Edmonds continues to have plenty of fans who are happy tor updates on her life.

And, well, she has a pretty major life update:

She’s pregnant! And she’s expecting a …

Meghan King Edmonds posted a very lengthy announcement on her blog, writing:

“So we’ve made it to the announcement: Aspen is going to be a big sister!”

That’s exciting! Though we’d point out that this announcement came on Aspen’s first birthday (yesterday), so she won’t be much older than her younger sibling.

“It was so hard for us to keep it a secret from everyone especially since we shared our entire IVF journey with Aspen on RHOC from the very beginning.”

And there’s a lot of detail about her latest IVF journey in this post, as well.

“Tonight on the RHOC reunion you’ll see that I’m only one month pregnant, but that was filmed five weeks ago: we are now ten weeks pregnant (and I’m feeling every bit of it)!”

Awww, that’s wonderful news!

“Because you won’t see any of our current journey on RHOC, I’ll share our beautiful journey with you here!”

Maybe she just means because, you know, the show doesn’t quite film back-to-back, but some are reading that line as confirmation that Meghan King Edmonds won’t return to RHOC next year.

Her post continues:

“When Aspen was only a few months old, Jimmy and I knew we wanted to add another baby to the mix.”

Wow. Most parents of infants are too tired to tie their shoes properly, let alone make major life decisions.

“Yes, Aspen has half-siblings but we wanted her to be able to share in the joy of waking up to a sibling every day of her life.”

It’s good that she reassures readers that she’s not pretending that Aspen’s an only child. And then some:

“Plus her half-siblings are completely enamored by Aspen and they LOVED the idea of expanding our family even more.”

Little siblings are very exciting.

“I had reliable companionship this time around with Jimmy by my side, my trusty furry companion Girly Girl and of course, baby Aspen.”

She mentions them for a great reason.

“It may seem silly to mention Aspen and Girly Girl but this support system was everything to me during round 2 of IVF.”

There’s nothing silly about a support system!

In case anyone had forgotten, she recapped her previous struggles with IVF.

“Side note: If you remember from RHOC, during my first round of IVF I entered the worst depression of my life, probably due to the erratic hormones combined with loneliness.”

Guys, if you know anyone who’s had hormone treatments, you know that it can have devastating effects on mental and emotional health.

Remember when you were 14 and had all of these feelings and they all seemed so important? Well, imagine suddenly being plunged into that again as an adult, but magnified.

Meghan King Edmonds talked about how she was able to cope:

“I was able to wean off my depression meds halfway through my pregnancy with Aspen which directly corresponded with when I got Girly Girl, and I haven’t been on a lick of antidepressants since then.”

We hope that all of this weaning was done under a doctor’s supervision.

“Dogs are truly woman’s best friend and medicine for the soul… and apparently clinical depression!”

Not all depression can be cured with a pet, of course — but some specific issues can totally be addressed with a pet.

Now, she goes into great detail into the IVF process … which is great for anyone wondering what that’s like.

And then she talks about where she is now:

“Fast forward to today and I am pregnant! I’m not feeling the greatest but we know that it will all be worth it in the end.”

Surrogates are always an option to a couple of means. Just saying.

“Aspen will make a fabulous big sister at only a year-and-a-half old in June 2018!”

So we already know the (very approximate) due date! Though we could have puzzled it out with the knowledge that she’s 10 weeks pregnant.

“Oh, what about the biggest question: Boy or girl? Think blue this time around!”

Ah, yes, the ever-important arbitrary gendering of colors.

But still, Aspen’s going to love having a younger brother!

The Lion King Cast Revealed: Beyonce and More!

If you were on Twitter on Wednesday night, you saw everyone collectively lose their minds. Actually, that’s every night on Twitter in 2017, but this time, it was in a good way.

Because Disney finally found a way to make people not complain about their live-action revivals of classic films.

The recipe for success is complicated, but the key ingredient for all of this The Lion King enthusiasm is … Beyonce. But she’s not the only big name in the cast.

As appropriately beautiful as the live action Beauty And The Beast trailer was, it was also a source of controversy.

Many fans saw it as an unoriginal, transparent money-grab by Disney. An effort to feed off of Millennial nostalgia and transform that into profit.

And … well, the movie was good, but that doesn’t mean that these critical fans were in any way wrong.

It was, by definition, unoriginal.

Unlike Maleficent, it wasn’t a total reinvention — it was a retelling.

As for being a money-grab, well … aren’t most big production films?

Beauty And The Beast raked in over a billion dollars, so it was definitely a success in that department.

The thing is that those who are critical of these live-action remakes of classic Disney films seem to feel that this is all a bad thing.

That is not necessarily so.

But even those who had professed a profound weariness for Disney’s remakes are more or less losing their minds over The Lion King.

Why?

Well … take a look at this cast:

The Lion King Cast

As we mentioned, Beyonce is not the only big name in the newly announced live-action The Lion King cast.

She’s the biggest, to be sure.

Now, we talked about Millennial nostalgia. Do you know what about half (at least) of ’90s have in common?

Having had a big ol’ crush on Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Seriously, look at any list of childhood celebrity crushes and you’ll see “JTT.”

Well, JTT voiced Simba in the original animated film.

You know who’s playing Simba now?

Donald Glover. On whom plenty of those ’90s kids grew up to have a much more adult crush.

Which means that Disney is catering to your weird, confused childhood Simba crush.

Let’s see … oh, The Lion King‘s beloved hedonistic and very probably gay couple, Timon and Pumba, will be played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, respectively.

Zazu will be played by Emmy-winning comedian and talk show host John Oliver, who is almost unbelievably perfect for the role.

So, as you can see, the lions and hyenas will all be played by black actors, while the bird character, the meerkat, and the warthog will be played by white actors.

People have been pointing out for years, as fans of the original film drew human versions of The Lion King characters, that a royal African family should be portrayed as black humans if they’re going to be humanized.

Disney hasn’t always been great about racial representation (and they still seem to be deeply in denial about how racist a lot of early Disney stuff was), but they’ve been making a lot of great strides recently.

Note, by the way, that James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa, Simba’s father.

Now, they’re calling this a “live-action” remake, but let’s be clear — there’s going to be a lot of CGI.

We imagine that they’ll all be motion-captured into lions (and other animals) for this musical adventure, but the exact details haven’t been revealed.

Production only began during the summer.

Honestly, just knowing that Donald Glover and Beyonce are going to be playing an on screen couple will be enough to tide us over for a good long while.

And Baron Mordo from Doctor Strange (that and Serenity are where you’ve seen him before) playing Scar is a very promising decision, too. Disney films are nothing without a good villain.

While I’m personally the most excited about the new Aladdin (it was my first-ever film in theaters and I was a big Jafar fan growing up), the casting news has more than doubled my enthusiasm for The Lion King.

Really looking forward to 2019!

Robert Guillaume Dies; Benson & The Lion King Actor Was 89

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as Emmy-winning actor Robert Guillaume has passed away at the age of 89.

Reports of Guillaume’s death were confirmed this afternoon by his wife of 31 years, Donna Guillaume.

You may not be familiar with Guillaume’s name, but if you’re a film and television fan, you’ve almost certainly encountered and enchanted by his work.

For seven seasons, Guillaume portrayed the title character on the ABC sitcom Benson, a spinoff of the popular series Soap, on which he also starred.

His work on the two shows earned Guillaume a pair of Emmys.

While Benson may be the role fans most commonly associate with Guillaume, the Broadway alum went on to produce decades of acclaimed work on both stage and screen after his signature series came to an end.

Almost as well known for his rich baritone voice as he was for his comic timing, Benson was nominated for a Tony for his work in a 1977 production of Guys and Dolls.

Guillaume later became the first African-American actor to play the title role in The Phanton of the Opera.

To younger fans, he’s perhaps best known as the voice of Rafiki in the 1994 Disney animated classic The Lion King.

Throughout the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, Guillaume remained a television staple appearing in guest roles on such popular series as Good Times, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Saved By The Bell: The College Years, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and A Different World.

In his later years, Guillaume appeared in Tim Burton’s Big Fish, and was a regular on the short-lived, but critically-acclaimed Aaron Sorkin sitcom Sports Night.

After suffering a stroke in 1999, Guillaume returned to Sports Night, and his slight speech impairment and reliance upon a cane were written into the show in a memorable story arc.

The actor was widely applauded by health advocacy groups for his honest and courageous portrayal of life after a stroke.

All told, Guillaume racked up nearly 100 screen credits over the course of his 50-year career.

He is survived by his wife and four children.
