Mac Miller Update: Family Releases Statement, Awful People Blame Ariana Grande for Rapper"s Death
As previously reported, tragedy has once again struck Hollywood.
Around noon on Friday, authorities, responding to a call from an unknown individual, arrived at the San Fernando Valley home of Mac Miller and found the rapper dead.
He was 26 years old.
As of this writing, the likely cause of death is a drug overdose.
The artist had been well known and respected across the music industry ever since his debut album in 2012… but he was perhaps better known of late for his long-term relationship with Ariana Grande.
This romance ended in May, with sources saying that Miller’s substance abuse issues played a significant role in Grande deciding it was time to part ways.
Just a week later, Miller was arrested for drunk driving.
Shortly afterward, in July, he an interview to Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music in which he referred to himself as a “self-destructive depressed drug user.”
But he also assured fans at this time that he was doing okay and that he was “happy” for Grande, who he dated for two years.
Just over a month later, Miller is dead.
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement provided to multiple outlets.
“He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time
Elsewhere, Warner Bros. Records added the following:
“Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and sense of humor that touched everyone he met.
“Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department has confirmed that first responders were dispatched Friday after an 11:42 a.m. call about a medical complaint at a residence in Studio City, California.
They did not transport anyone from the scene, making it safe to assume that Miller had passed away before they arrived.
“I just wanna go on tour,” Miller Tweeted on Thursday. “The show is going to be special every night. I wish it started tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, while music heavyweights mourn Miller’s passing (“Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him,” Tweeted Chance the Rapper), a handful of terrible trolls out there are blamng Grande for what has transpired.
They somehow think the singer is responsible for Miller’s addiction and for driving him to this fatal place due to their split.
In the wake of this tragedy and upon seeing what these awful people were writing on her Instagram page, Grande disabled Comments for a period of time.
She appears to have now turned them back on.
And if she is checking, we sincerely hope she sees that the supporters out there far, far, FAR outweight the misguided haters.
“The amount of tweets blaming Ariana Grande for what happened to Mac Miller is disgusting, his addiction and lack of help is what drove this to happen, don’t point the finger and blame,” wrote on fan.
And another chimed in as follows:
“Just noticed Ariana Grande disabled comments on her Instagram account after a barrage of Mac Miller-related comments. Recognize the true problem here, rather than using someone else as a scapegoat & continuing the cycle.
All so sad & nauseating.”
Following Mller’s aforementioned crash and DUI arrest, someone on the Internet dared to blame Grande for the rapper’s fate.
She wasn’t having it.
“I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” clapped back the singer, adding:
“I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming / blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s— together is a very major problem.”
That is oh so true.
And also so not the point right now.
A young man is dead at the age of 26.
It’s a tragedy.
This is especially the case when you consider what Miller said in a documentary a few years ago:
“I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can’t even get out of his house. Overdosing is just not cool. You don’t go down in history because you overdose. You just die.”
May he rest in peace.

XXXTentacion: Representatives Release a Statement on Rapper"s Death
On Monday, 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion was shot dead in Miami.
Speculation has been mounting that he had predicted his death and reports came out claiming that XXXTentacion wanted to tie young, and everyone has questions.
The late rapper’s representation has now released a statement.
XXXTentacion’s team released a statement to Entertainment Tonight.
“On June 18, 2018, Jahseh Onfroy — known worldwide as XXXTentacion — tragically passed away from a gunshot wound in Deerfield, Florida,” the statement begins.
As you may remember, the 20-year-old rapper was leaving a motorcycle dealer when a gunman ran up to his vehicle and opened fire.
“It is with great sadness that the news is confirmed in this official statement by his team,” the statement continues. “Manager Solomon Sobande, EMPIRE, Bob Celestin, Esq. and AKW PR.”
That’s very formal, but important, though this had already been reported by reputable sources and confirmed by local police.
The statement then goes on to make a request.
“In deference to his family, friends, and loved ones and in light of further investigation,” the statement asks.
This part is standard when a celebrity dies.
The statement continues: “we ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”
That is absolutely right. Whatever you may have thought of XXXTentacion himself, there were people who cared about him who are miserable right now.
The statement continues, this time with a tribute to the rapper’s memory.
“XXXTentacion touched the lives of millions around the globe,” the statement claims.
He certainly had many fans.
The statement says that the rapper connected with fans through music, “and will forever reside in the hearts of countless fans who listened to his music.”
Sure. His music will be part of his legacy for as long as he is remembered.
The statement says that this legacy will also apply to fans who “attended his concerts, and felt the glow of his uncontainable, undeniable, and unique spirit.”
That part is a little flowery, but appropriate for the context.
“News about memorial services to be issued forthcoming,” the statement concludes.
XXXTentacion was a controversial figure, in life and in death.
As you may have noticed from the two different mugshots in this post, he had multiple run-ins with the law during his 20 short years.
The allegations of brutal domestic abuse against him were definitely a subject on the internet following the news of XXXTentacion being shot, and then again after it was confirmed that he was dead.
Some people who were fans of the rapper despite the horrifying allegations expressed their grief on social media.
Others were then shocked to see that they felt that way, because they were unwilling to shed a tear for a man accused of monstrous misdeeds.
Fan culture can be complicated. How does one separate the art from the artist? Is it immoral to mourn a bad person?
Those are not easy questions to answer, and it seems unlikely that the world will ever agree any time soon.
Those on both sides of the debate of how to respond to news of XXXTentacion’s death can surely agree on one good cause.
The rapper’s ex-girlfriend, Geneva Ayala, whose serious facial injuries from a brutal alleged beating threaten even her eyesight, has a GoFundMe to help repair the damage to her face, skull, and eyes.
Following the news of his death — which was the first time that some people learned of the allegations against him that go back at least two years — she received an influx of donations to her GoFundMe.
While none of us should live in a world where vital healthcare should depend upon the generosity of strangers, this time, the strangers were very generous, and her page has now exceeded its goal.
Be warned — the images of her injuries are graphic.
That is a very worthy cause that is getting some attention this week. However you may feel about XXXTentacion, it’s good to channel those feelings into something good.
And, of course, let his loved ones grieve without trying to invade their privacy.

Rick Ross: I Can"t Sign Female Rappers! I Would F--k Them!
Having your own business is a good thing. It gives you a lot of control over several things to do with said business.
For people like Rick Ross, it gives him the ability to have creative control over his music.
But that’s not all.
It also allows him to pick and choose who he does business with, and in a new interview, it’s clear he has to be picky, or he runs the risk of being on the receiving end of some lawsuits.
The rapper is appearing on VH1’s reality series, Signed, and he opened up about what you have to be like to snag a lucrative recording contract with him.
“When I’m looking for artists, I’m really just looking for something that I’ve never seen, first and foremost,” he said.
“If it’s something that’s unique, that’s something that’s in demand. After that, I want to see that hunger. I just need to see that hunger, you know what I mean?”
“Because I’ve seen artists that have maybe less talent but more drive make it to the top first, you know what I mean? To me, that’s extremely important. Once you show me something unique, and you show me that hunger, Double-M G is ready to rock.”
Basically, it’s the category people would fall into if they were looking for a record deal, host, Angela Yee noticed that the label had signed a grand total of zero females, and Rick had the most horrible response to her perfectly valid question.
“You know, I never did it because I always thought, like, I would end up f–king the female rapper and f–king the business up. I’m so focused on my business. I gotta be honest with you,” the record executive said while trying to keep a straight face.
Surely, if he was “so focused” on the business, he would be able to keep things strictly professional.
“She’s lookin’ good, I’m spending so much money on her photo shoots—I gotta f–k a couple times.”
We’re all for honesty here, but that has got to be the most bizarre and downright terrible reason for not letting females have a contract with him.
He went one step further and essentially told Angela that he would hit bone town with her if she were to be lucky enough to wind up with him.
“Like, if I signed you or something, I would have to…,” he said.
“Shut up,” Yee said with a laugh, but she was clearly frustrated by the lack of female presence at the label and rightfully so.
Yee then said that he had a good working relationship with fellow rapper, Trina, in the past.
“She’s most definitely somebody I would love to have, vibe with on that level,” he said, “but she had a situation with somebody that was a big homie in my city, one of my big-time homies, one of the big homies…I’m just one of those dudes. If you rock with one of my homies, you know, cool. Imma spare you.”
With Trina, he added, “I was able to just focus on the music and the records.”
If he wanted to garner some press for the VH1 series, he definitely accomplished that goal, but he went the complete wrong way about it.
Instead, he’s essentially offended a lot of people, and proven that he’s a misogynistic pig. Hardly the best way to promote your series and brand, right?
We definitely think a lot less of Rick after his horrible comments, and we’re not the only ones. Rick took to Facebook to apologize for his remarks because he understood they were not the best words to use.
“I want to address an insensitive comment I made on a very sensitive issue, especially in a minority dominated industry like hip hop,” the rapper wrote.
“My entire empire’s backbone is led by 2 of the strongest people I know and they happen to be women, my mother and sister. The operations wouldn’t run without them and I have the highest regard and respect for women in this industry. I have a daughter myself, my most cherished gift in the world.”
He continued, “My comment is not reflection of my beliefs on the issue. A mistake I regret. I hope to use my mistake, my platform and the community to create positive discussion to implement change on a very important issue. respect for the ones who stand up to say hey that isn’t right. Now it’s time to accept responsibility and all do better.”
“I look forward to continue working with & supporting female artists. my discovery process was documented by vh1 on #signed which premiered last night. Many of the most talented artists you’ll see in the running to be the next #MMG superstars are female artists. I look forward to clarifying my comments through my support.”
Ross concluded, “Thank you to everyone who’s going through the journey with me, we coming out everyday stronger.”
If you want to promote something, don’t single out a gender and say you can’t work with them because you would “f–k” them.
What do you think about all of this?
Sound off below!
