Royal Wedding Dress Debate: Who Wore It Better?

On Saturday afternoon, it finally happened.

As documented in detail, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married in London.

The former Suits actress and the son of Princess Diana said “I Do” in front of hundreds of guests in attendance at St. George’s, not to mention thousands lining the street outside and millions watching at home.

But we’re not here right now to talk about those two romantic words.

We’re here to discuss four equally famous words:

Who. Wore. It. Best.

The subjects in this case are the two Royal Brides from the past decade, Kate Middleton and Mrs. Markle.

The former, of course, tied the knot with Prince William back in 2011 in an event whose anticipation we never thought could be topped until today.

At the time, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a lovely lace Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton, the fashion house’s creative director.

The now-legendary gown featured long lace sleeves, a v-neckline and an extremely long train.

Kate’s dress was also composed of French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace throughout the bodice, skirt and underskirt.

Here. Take a look below in order to refresh your memory:

Markle, meanwhile, went with Givenchy.

She donned an ensemble by the fashion house’s creative director Clare Waight Keller.

It featured a boat neckline bodice, long sleeves and a sheer cascading veil adorned with lace trim.

The delicate veil was actually made from silk tulle and it included a trim of hand-embroidered flowers in silk threads and organza.

Check it out here:

Both women looked gorgeous. Stunning. Beautiful in every way possible.

About this there can be no debate.

But let’s be honest now: While the world is standing up and applauding Meghan and Harry on their big day and wishing them the very best of luck, they’re also engaged in a different kind of debate.

It’s the kind summed up by the quartet of words we jotted down above:

Who wore her Royal Wedding Dress best, Middleton or Markle?

Go ahead and vote the poll below to make your opinion known:

Fashion Face-Off!

You must pick one: Who wore her Royal Wedding Dress best, Meghan Markle or Kate Middleton? View Poll »

It’s worth noting that Middleton’s dress grew to be so iconic and so memorable that H&M designed a similar version that retails for the affordable price of $ 299.

Will Markle’s gown create such demand?

Will designers be lining up to essentially copy it and offer it at a discount to the masses?

It’s far too early to say.

However, this much we can state with certainty:

Prince William and Prince Harry are both very lucky men. They married stunning women with terrific fashion taste.

Everyone here is a winner in the broad sense of the word… but only one of these brides can be a winner in the specific sense of this post.

So we ask again: Which Royal Wedding Dress do you like best?

Pippa Middleton vs. Kate Middleton: Who Wore Her Wedding Dress Better?

On May 20, 2017, Pippa Middleton married James Matthews.

On April 29, 2011, Kate Middleton married Prince William.

Both occasions were marked by intense interest from the public… the gathering of Royal Family members from near and far… ridiculously lavish receptions…

… and lots of talk over the sisters’ chosen wedding dresses.

And we mean LOTS. OF. TALK.

You’d think these wedding dresses had solved the problem of world poverty or something, based on the way everyone on the Internet discussed them, debated them and analyzed every inch of fabric that comprised them.

But that’s just what happens when you combine the world’s most famous set of relatives with one of the world’s most popular industries.

Royal weddings equal royal fascination.

And also a royal debate:

Which of these sisters actually looked best on her big day?

Let’s break down each gown before turning this question over to you, our dear reader…

PIPPA donned a lace dress designed by Giles Deacon. It featured a high neck and capped sleeves molded to her torso, along with a full (but not stuffed) skirt.

The younger Middleton sister accessorised her bridal outfit with a Maidenhair fern tiara by Robinson Pelham and satin pumps with pearl detailing by Manolo Blahnik.

She looked amazing.

For her “something old”, meanwhile, Pippa rocked the same Robinson Pelham pearl earrings that graced her lobes for Kate’s wedding in 2011.

Which brings us to Kate’s wedding in 2011.

It was designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director of the luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen.

The ivory satin bodice was padded slightly at the hips and narrowed at the waist, incorporating floral motifs.

When Kate turned around, fans were left in awe at the 58 buttons of gazer and organza, which fastened via rouleau loops.

Sources at the time said that Burton used traditional Carrickmacross craftsmanship in making the ivory gown, a technique that dates back to the 1800s; this was meant to represent “something old.”

The skirt was crafted with white satin gazar arches and pleats to echo an opening flower.

From the hand-cut Chantilly lace of the sleeves to the lace applique on the bodice and the individual lace roses, the attention to detail on this dress was nearly unparalleled in wedding history.

It makes sense. Kate was actually marrying into the Royal Family.

These was the most-watching nuptials of all-time.

Therefore, Pippa didn’t have the same standard to meet when marrying James Matthews.

That’s important to keep in mind here.

This fine-assed beauty was still the center of the world’s attention on Saturday morning, but she didn’t face the same sort of societal expectations as her sister when it came to her dress.

So there’s some background on the iconic ensembles for you.

Now it’s time to end the preamble and get to the pressing question on everyone’s mind at the moment.

You’ve seen both dresses. You’ve marveled over both brides. You’ve been given ample time to determine your preference. Let’s do this:

Halloween Costume Clash: Which Kardashian Wore It Best?

A slight damper was placed on Halloween this year for the Kardashians and Jenners.

Why? Because Kim Kardashian did not get dressed up and hit the town.

Over the years, Kim had rocked some memorable Halloween costumes, sometimes more than one per holiday.

But she’s still recovering from the trauma of this month’s armed robbery in Paris, avoiding the press and the public in general. We don’t blame her.

Fortunately, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner stopped up their costume games in Kim’s absence over the weekend.

First, there was Khloe, who stirred up quite a literal Storm on Saturday night, going to a party dressed as the X-Men character made famous by Halle Berry.

She also made out big time with boyfriend Tristan Thompson at a party.

Then there was Kourtney, who has never been married…

… and maybe we now know why!

Because if this is Kourtney’s idea of wedding fashion, then not even Scott Disick would be desperate enough to exchange vows with her:

Finally, Kylie hearkened way back to the days of Christina Aguilera.

And we know what you’re thinking: these are the days of Christina Aguilera.

But we’re talking about old school Christina Aguilera. The 2002 version of Christina Aguilera. The Dirrrty version of Christina Aguilera, the sexy artist who sky-rocketed to fame due to one of the sexiest music videos in recorded history.

Isn’t that right, Kylie?

So there you have it.

There you have your options.

Which of these sisters wore her 2016 Halloween costume best?

And the Winner is?

Kate Winslet: Not Pregnant, Just Wore a Weird Dress At The Oscars

But they were stroking her belly!

During the 88th Annual Academy Awards, Cate Blanchett and Best Actress winner Brie Larson were spotted stroking Kate Winslet’s dress, which many assumed was because Winslet was pregnant.

Nope.  Sources told TMZ that the two stars were just fascinated with Winslet’s dress material, and wanted to feel it.

Winslet, who won Best Actress in 2008 for her role in The Reader, wore a custom silk Ralph Lauren Collection Gown to the ceremony.  Truth be told, the material made it look more like a GLAD trash bag (forgive me, Kate. ILY.)

Winslet is mother to three children – Mia, 15, Joe, 12 from her first two marriages, and Bear, 2 with husband Ned Rocknroll.

The British star was nominated for Best Supporting Actress this year, but lost to The Danish Girl’s Alicia Vikander.

Winslet was there for more than a nomination, though.  Her longtime friend and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio finally went home with an Oscar (Best Actor, The Revenant), and there was no better person to witness it than Rose herself.

“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for [DiCaprio],” Winslet told BBC News last month.

“It would be amazing … You can sort of feel the temperature. It’s probably going to be Leo’s year.”

Blake Shelton Wore Jeans To Vanity Fair"s Oscar Party, Because WTF

Slow claps for the guy in denim.

Gwen Stefani never phones it in sartorially, but even she can’t make up for the fact that her boyfriend, Blake Shelton wore jeans to February 28th’s Vanity Fair Oscar party.

This is an after party that invited guests covet, and even the photographers are dressed in formal wear, a dress code only adhered to at an equally superb occasion, the Cannes Film Festival.

This is a classy event, Shelton.  We’re glad you went with dark wash denim instead of, say, pressed khakis, but for crying out loud, isn’t there a suit somewhere in your closet?

If Shelton dressed like a true cowboy (Stetson hat at the ready, all day every day), then we might have accepted his looks as “authentic country cowboy.”

Last night’s look was simply lazy and/or difficult, as if Shelton was rebelling against (what we assume is) the event’s dress code.

“Hey ya’ll.  I’m not gonna listen to your rules on how to dress on Oscar night,” Shelton’s jeans screamed from the red carpet.

“Whatever, I’m wearing dungarees ’cause I’m country.”

No, Shelton.  Oscar night is not about conforming, nor is it about making a statement by under-dressing.  It’s about respecting the event and what it represents.

Oscar night is special.  People work very hard to put the entire production together, so the least you could do is put on a suit so as not to embarrass your lady friend.

Just do better next time.
