Spiders Could Eat Every Human on Earth, Scientists Confirm

We hope you’re sitting down for the following report.

Actually: We hope you’re sitting down for the following report AND you’ve checked to make sure no spiders are nearby prior to popping your squat.

Because these irritating animals just got a whole lot scarier…

First, a recent entomological survey of North Carolina houses turned up spiders in 100 percent of them. Yes, 100 percent. That is every… single… home.

The same survey found that 68 percent of bathrooms and more than three-quarters of bedrooms were at least somewhat infested with these creatures.

Okay, fine. Whatever, you may be thinking.

Spiders are annoying, but it’s not as though they inflict any real damage… right?

Tell that to European biologists Martin Nyffeler and Klaus Birkhofer.

These scientists just published an estimate in the journal the Science of Nature that says the world’s spiders consume somewhere between 400 million and 800 million tons of prey in any given year.

That sounds like a lot.

But we’re guessing you don’t fully comprehend just how much that actually is.

These figures mean that spiders eat as much meat over a 12-month period as all seven billion humans on the planet combined, who, the authors note, consume a mere 400 million tons of meat and fish per year.

Kind of gross, perhaps you’re not saying to yourself.

But still. How does this really affect me?

Consider:

The total biomass of all adult human being on the planet is estimated to be 287 million tons.

Tack on another 75-100 tons for all the kids running around and it’s still not equal to the total amount of food eaten by spiders in a given year.

In other words, just to break it down and be as clear as possible:

Spiders could eat all of us – every last one of us – and still be hungry. Heck, we’d serve as mere appetizers to these animals before they moved on to their real meal.

Nyffler and Birkhofer studied how many spiders reside in a square meter of land for all the main habitat types on Earth and then considered average amount of food consumed by spiders of different sizes in a given year.

They reached the disgusting and frightening conclusions above as a result, along with the following:

• The global average spider density stands at about 131 spiders per square meter.


• Deserts and tundra are among the habitats home to the fewest number of spiders.


• In more “favorable” conditions, Nyffler and Birkhofer says you can find over 1,000 spiders per square meter.


• All the spiders in the world combine to weigh over 25 million tons.


• Spiders consume approximately 10 percent of their body weight in food per day.

Is that a lot?

It would be equivalent to a 200-pound man eating 20 pounds of meat. Everyday.

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that spiders primarily feast on bugs, meaning their impressive hunger leads to fewer pests in the garden, fewer mosquitoes in the yard and fewer flies in the house.

They don’t actually crave human flesh.

Yet.

Boomer Phelps Sports USA Pants, Might Be Most Patriotic Baby On Earth

By know, most of us know Boomer Phelps as that adorable little chunker who snoozed through most of his dad’s Olympic races.

Boomer is just over three months old, and has replaced Kate Middleton as the most popular celebrity at any Olympic Games ever. 

Last night, Boomer got decked out to watch dad Michael Phelps go for the gold once again, one upping his outfit game from the night before when dad won his 20th and 21st Olympic gold medals.

“Wait to go daddy!!!” the caption for the photo read, earning over 76,000 likes and a slew of positive comments. Boomer has has own verified Instagram account, with over 277,000.

The Olympic swimmer did prep everyone for Boomer’s sartorial splendor.

“He’s going to have some cool outfits on, that’s for sure. You’ve got to check him out,” Michael told reporters before his August 9th races.

“I’ve gotten some photos of him — Boomer will be dressed to impress in the stands, that’s for sure.”

Boomer’s mom is former Miss California Nicole Johnson.  She and Michael got engaged in February 2015 after 8 years of dating on and off.  

Boomer was born May 5th of this year.

“It’s been a really fun journey over the last couple of years, and a journey that I think has made me the person who I am and helped me transform to me just being me,” Michael told USA Today a few months after their engagement.

“Nicole and I are so stoked.”

The eight-part E! reality series will chronicle Carey’s life as she prepares for her tour and her marriage to James Packer.

The artist and the billionaire got engaged in January of this year after just a few months of dating.

Among other ridiculous things Carey says in the following Mariah"s World trailer, she refers to her upcoming nuptials as "most important event that"s ever happened."

Yes, EVER.

In another clip, the five-time Grammy winner refuses to take off her sunglasses while indoors:

"I"m wearing these glasses because we"re in fluorescent lighting, and I have a rule which states that I will not be seen in fluorescent lighting without sunglasses," she explains. "I know, it"s very "90s."

It"s very something, we know that much.

And that something is so unappealing it makes us wonder whether Kim Kardashian will no longer be E"s least likable star in just a few months.

The network is yet to set a premiere date for this nauseating series.

“I am not Cinderella, my life has not been a fairy tale,” says Carey in the preview. “Forget the image. Forget the rumors. I owe this to the fans.”

Jaden Smith Wants to Fix "The Whole Planet Earth"

Jaden Smith made many headlines in early January when he wore a skirt for a Louis Vutton campaign.

But the 17-year old actor/rapper doesn’t comprehend what all the fuss over his occasional fashion choices are all about.

Because he doesn’t see gender when it comes to fashion.

“I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms,” Smith tells the April issue of British GQ Style, adding:

“I feel like people don’t really get it. I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction.”

To be specific and to be clear, the very concept of gendered garments escapes Smith.

“I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes,” he says. “I just see scared people and comfortable people.”

Among his more eccentric fashion selections, Smith donned a dress last year while accompanying actress Amandla Stenberg to the prom.

Jaden, meanwhile, has his sights set far beyond changing how people view skirts, dresses and other garments.

“I’m really working towards just fixing the whole planet Earth. I really just want to create a utopia on this planet,” he tells GQ Style.

“I really want to make it so that people don’t have to die to pay bills and just work to survive. So that they can work to actually live and do the things that they love to do.”

That’s an admirable goal and we fully support it.

But as long as Smith promises not to make an After Earth sequel, we’ll be happy.

Maurice White Dies: Earth, Wind & Fire Singer Was 74

Maurice White – the singer best known as one of the founding members of the ’70s funk and soul group Earth, Wind & Fire – has passed away at the age of 74.

White had been battling Parkinson’s disease for over two decades, and family and friends say his condition deteriorated rapidly over the past few months.

A member of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, White won six Grammys as a member of Earth, Wind & Fire and seven for his individual songwriting and recording efforts.

During his time as frontman, the group recorded such international chart-toppers as “Shining Star,” “September,” “Let’s Groove,” and “After the Love has Gone.”

Though Maurice’s illness forced him to stop touring with Earth, Wind & Fire in 1994, he remained involved in the group’s creative decisions until his death.

His younger brother, Verdine White, is still a member of the band.

Maurice leaves behind a wife, two children, and a body of work that’s regarded as one of the most influential to come out of the ’70s R&B scene.

Though news of his death broke just moments ago, tributes from family, friends, fans, and proteges have already made White a trending topic on social media.

Tila Tequila Claims She Has Robot Brain, Earth is Flat in All-Time Twitter Rant

Based on her latest Twitter rant, we believe that Tila Tequila has either lost her mind or is a consummate pro’s pro at Internet trolling.

Not only does she claim the world is flat, but the reality star says she actually died and was replaced by a clone four years ago.

At least she didn’t dress her kid up as Hitler. Well, this time.

To sum up, the 34-year-old alleges that she is actually a Russian spy who died and was replaced by a clone at some point in 2012.

That would be the main takeaway from any one else’s Twitter tirade, but this is Tila Tequila. The girl operates in her own orbit.

Speaking of which, she may not know what orbiting is, since she believes the Earth is flat and described why in hilarious detail.

It’s not clear if these thoughts are being bestowed upon us because she has a robot brain, but they are … out of this world.

So to speak. The earth is flat, the moon isn’t real because it was placed there artificially and is really spaceship. And so on.

We can’t really do justice to Tila’s tweets but here’s a sampling:

Then she demanded answers from NASA and claims she’s going there to get the scoop on the #FlatEarth once and for all, writing:

“I LIVE IN HOUSTON SO I WILL DRIVE DOWN TO @NASA SPACE CENTER MYSELF AND DEMAND THEY ANSWER MY QUESTIONS!”

Persuasive as ALL CAPS TWEETS may be, good luck getting through security. The gatekeepers of the #FlatEarth secrets ain’t playin’.

Anyway, perhaps the best moment of all of this came when she tossed out another “truth bomb” and got taken to school by a follower.

Seriously, this guy apparently attended school at some point in his reasonably educated life. Tila not so much. It’s never too late, girl.
