Orangutan Smokes Strewn Cigarette, Animal Activisits Flip Out
A video that depicts an orangutan smoking a cigarette discarded by a zoo patron has gone viral …
… and not in the positive sense, either, according to many animal rights activists.
Indeed, the following footage has sparked international anger toward this zoo"s alleged mistreatment of animals.
The video was shot by a visitor last Sunday at Indonesia"s Bandung Zoo, which is approximately 90 miles southeast of the capital, Jakarta.
As you"re about to see, it captures a young man taking a few puffs from a cigarette and then tossing the still-lit item to the ground of an open-air enclosure.
It"s at this point that a 22-year old orangutan named Odon actually picks up the cigarette and begins to inhale it, drawing immense laughter from the crowd.
But many folks out there do not find this incident to be funny.
A handful of animal rights organizations have condemned the visitor’s carelessness and the zoo’s apparent lack of supervision and education against such acts.
However…
"There"s actually a sign at the location which says visitors are not allowed to give food and cigarettes to the animals," said a zoo spokesperson in response to this scandal.
Still, though, Marison Guciano, founder of the Indonesia Animal Welfare Society, went after the zoo"s management for "weak control"and generally criticized the place for a lack of welfare standards.
Elsewhere, about one million people have signed a Change.org petition to "Shut down the Bandung Zoo now!" following the orangutan incident.
It reminds us, to some extent, of the extreme outcry that took place in May of 2016 after a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo had to be shot to death because a toddler climbed into its enclosure.
Remember this frightening story?
Scary stuff.
But an orangutan smoking is just funny stuff… right?
Or wrong?
Check out the video below and decide for yourself.

Counting On Promotes New Season Without Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard, Fans Flip Out!
Great news for fans of Counting On: it’s less than a month now until the new season premieres!
We’ve got some bad news for fans of Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard though …
Back in November, we learned that Derick had been fired from the show after repeatedly making offensive remarks about Jazz Jennings, the star of another show on TLC.
Jazz is also a child, by the way.
His comments had to do with the fact that Jazz is transgender, which he considers to be “a myth.”
“Gender is not fluid,” he tweeted at one point. “It’s ordained by God.”
When he got some backlash for that comment, he dug his hole a little deeper, tweeting “I want to be clear. I have nothing against him. I only have issue with the words and definitions being propagated here.”
Except he referred to Jazz as a “him,” not a “her,” which is disrespectful and hurtful and there’s no way he didn’t know that.
He made those comments in August, and in the following months, he continued to make ignorant statements about Jazz and the transgender community as a whole.
Then, in November, he tweeted “I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child.”
“It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on tv these days.”
He was right about one thing: it is unfortunate what’s on TV these days.
Thankfully, TLC helped solve a bit of this problem by firing Derick soon after those statements.
Since then, he’s claimed that he wasn’t actually fired, that he just decided that it would be best if he and his family began “heading in a different direction.”
*Insert “Sure, Jan” gif here*
We have our doubts about that, but it’s clear that whatever happened, Derick and Jill really won’t be appearing on Counting On anymore.
The Duggar family’s Facebook page just shared a promotional image from the upcoming season of the show, and we see Jessa, Joy-Anna, and Jinger cozying up to their husbands.
Where are Jill and Derick?
Trying to think up a way to make a GoFundMe page without getting heaps of backlash for begging fans for money, we guess — whatever it is, it certainly doesn’t look like they’re filming a reality show anymore.
It’s nice to see that the Dillards are gone, and that while TLC hesitates to let the Duggar family go completely, they still won’t tolerate the kind of nonsense that Derick spews.
But as it turns out, many, many fans of this family disagree with that — and they took to the Facebook post to address this.
“Utterly ridiculous that TLC removed Jill & Derick everyone is entitled to free speech we may not agree but still no reason to remove them from the show!!” one person wrote.
That’s not how freedom of speech works, but OK, sure.
“I wasn’t aware that bullying was defined by disagreeing,” someone else commented. “Such a double standard with anything that is conservative. Such a sad thing. Freedom of speech only applies if your not conservative.”
… Seriously, do they not teach this stuff in school anymore?
Considering that another person wrote “I think everyone should have freedom of speech and Derick could say what he wants to say and that is freedom of speech…”, we’d wager that they don’t.
Yet another Dillard fan complained that “You can believe multiple spouses are fine and get a show on TLC. You can believe it is fine for a boy to live as a girl and have a show on TLC.”
“You CANNOT voice your deeply held beliefs based on Biblical principles and remain on a show on TLC.”
Another wrote “It is a shame how it is ok to bully anyone Duggar but they can’t have an opinion or a voice. I think the Dillards are awesome and will keep up with them on their social media accounts.”
None of these people see an issue with what Derick said? They all think it’s cool that he went after a 16-year-old girl, and they don’t understand why TLC may have had an issue with that?
It’s a scary, scary world out there.

Tarek and Christina El Moussa Mourn Death of Flip or Flop Contractor
Both Tarek El Moussa and Christina El Moussa have taken to social media in mourning of a loved one.
The same loved one, it turns out.
On Friday, Frank Miller lost his battle with laryngeal cancer, passing away peacefully at an Orange County hospital in California.
The long-time contractor had worked closely with Tarek and Christina for years on Flip or Flop, the home renovation series that has been such a huge hit for HGTV.
In tribute to their late friend, the former couple shared memories of Frank and bid him farewell over the weekend.
“Good bye My dear friend Frank,” Tarek wrote, adding:
“I have always looked up to you and have respected you as a brother. You have touched not only myself and my family but thousands and thousands around the world.
“You have impacted so many lives with the fight inside your heart and soul…
“I will NEVER forget you and I hope to one day be as strong as you.”
“Now…don’t slack!” Tarek concluded. “I assume you are already working on remodeling heaven! Miss you buddy.”
Christina also sent a few thoughts Miller’s way.
“Frank since the day I met you I had the utmost respect for you,” she wrote.
Continued the popular HGTV personality:
“Hardworking and REAL. Always a pleasure to be around and always made me laugh. You fought your hardest!! You are so admired and respected by all who know you.
“God has a special place for you in Heaven. Love you and miss you.”
Tarek and Christina split up about a year ago.
They recently acknowledged their divorce and how far they’ve come in separate social media posts.
In May, the co-stars went public went the tale of Frank’s cancer diagnosis.
A GoFundMe account was sent up by Miller’s co-worker, Alison Diaz, that ended up raising over $ 31,000 to help Frank cover his medical treatments.
“As some of you know… he’s been fighting multiple cancers for many years, even while filming our show, and he’s still putting up the fight of his life,” Tarek wrote on Instagram at the time.
“The doctors told him a year ago he would not make it past 6 months, he’s proving them wrong, this man is a beast.”
Tarek, of course, has overcome two different cancer diagnoses himself.
The GoFundMe remains active, it should be noted.
If you’d like to make a donation, please go ahead and do so.
May Frank Miller rest in peace.

Big Brother Recap: Did Mark Flip The House?!?
Heading into the latest episode of Big Brother, Mark’s fate was up in the air.
You would think that being on the block against Matt would make the other houseguests want to get rid of Matt. Strategically, Mark has nobody in the house, so it would make perfect sense to keep him in as a target.
When the episode gets underway, Mark speaks with Jason about the possibility of keeping him in the game. Jason notes that it would be down to Alex and Paul.
Jason then lets Alex in on what Mark was saying, but Alex says that Jason has outed their final three deal with Paul in the process. Alex hits him because it gives their alliance away.
Despite wanting Mark out of the house, Christmas and Josh spoke about respecting his game, but that he just aligned with the wrong people.
Jason’s farm then makes a rare appearance on the series, and his wife speaks about his relationship with Alex. She thinks it’s healthy and that she’s keeping him grounded while inside the house.
When it comes to the live vote and eviction, there was a curveball thrown in for good measure.
- Raven votes to evict: Mark
- Josh votes to evict: Mark
- Kevin votes to evict: Mark
- Jason votes to evict: Matthew
- Alex votes to evict: Matthew
- Paul votes to evict: Mark
Mark is evicted by a 4-2 vote, and the look on Raven’s face confirms that she is shocked by the two hinky votes.
Mark says goodbye to the houseguests and notes that he will see them all on the other side. Is this the classiest eviction, like, ever?
In his eviction interview, Mark reveals that his game play was horrible. When you’re in a house with a bunch of people who just want to make it to the jury, Mark is actually a better player than most of them.
He tried a lot to secure his safety this week, and that was not a bad thing.
The good thing about Mark’s eviction is that it means the other houseguests are about to turn on each other in order to get to the end.
With the majority alliance now down to their own, it’s going to be interesting to watch.
Which side will Paul go to and stick with?
Hit the comments with your thoughts on this season.

Anita and Ken Corsini: Meet the Hosts of Flip or Flop Atlanta!
As previously reported, HGTV isn’t just doubling down on Flip or Flop.
It is quintupling down on the real estate-themed series, having ordered five spinoffs of the franchise this past March.
The show has already been a ratings winner for the cable network, but the divorce of original hosts Tarek and Christina El Moussa has actually caused it to surge in popularity over the past few months.
As a result, HGTV wasn’t content with merely giving Tarek and Christina more episodes.
Executives also announced that versions of the series – which features a couple that purchases dilapidated homes, fixes them up and then tries to sell them for a profit – would air down the line in Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Fort Worth and Las Vegas.
And Flip or Flop: Atlanta is set to premiere on Thursday, July 20 at 9/8c.
The spinoff will star Anita and Ken Corsini, a husband and wife who are and co-founders of the company Red Barn Homes.
“It’s a huge honor to be part of an established franchise,” Ken tells Entertainment Tonight. “It seemed like such a long shot. I don’t think either of us really thought this would happen.”
Flip or Flop debuted in 2013.
It now ranks as HGTV’s second-highest rated series.
But while the premise is easy to digest and oddly fascinating to watch play out, the success of these spinoffs will mostly be due to the personalities and stories of their hosts.
Fixer Upper, for example, is everyone’s favorite HGTV program because Chip and Joanna Gaines have natural and hilarious chemistry as the parents of four kids.
This is why producers have high hopes for Flip or Flop: Atlanta.
Anita worked as a high school math teacher before starting a family with Ken.
She’s the type of host to whom viewers will likely gravitate.
“We were expecting our first child, and Ken had been working in real estate for that year, so before I had that baby, he asked me, ‘Why don’t you get your real estate license and join me?"” she explains to ET.
“We just decided to take the plunge together and make it a family business, and that way we were home and around our baby and it kind of bettered our schedules.”
The couple says it has never met Tarek or Christina (below).
But they are obviously aware that their relationship has fallen apart.
Is this a cause for worry?
Are the Corsinis afraid that the glare of the spotlight will ruin their bond?
“To be honest, it’s never been a concern. We take our marriage very seriously,” Ken said of their 17-year union, adding:
“We’re very intentional about keeping a healthy marriage and staying close to each other and having a really tight-knit family. I don’t believe that the show is going to change that.”
Anita agrees.
“We genuinely love each other and have fun together, so it was really a fun opportunity for us as a couple to be able to embark on this,” she says.

Flip or Flop: The Show Will Go On... and On!
Tarek and Christina El Moussa no longer share a bed, a bubble bath or a home address.
But the former husband and wife will continue to share the small screen together for the foreseeable future.
In a piece of news both surprising and sensible, it has been confirmed that HGTV has picked up Flip or Flop for many more episodes…
… despite the fact that the hosts at the center of the series are no longer married.
Actually, it may be because the hosts at the center of the series are no longer married.
“Tarek and I have been working together for a long time and we look forward to continuing to work together on Flip or Flop,” Christina told People Magazine of the news.
Adds Tarek: “
From the beginning, HGTV has shown Christina and me tremendous support and we are excited to go out there and flip many more houses for Flip or Flop.”
For those keeping score at home (for some reason), HGTV is extending Season 7 to a total of 20 episodes; the network it not filming a new eighth season of the program at this time.
Christina and Tarek separated about a year ago.
They kept said separation quite, however, while continuing to toil away at their home buying and renovation show, which was the second most-watched series on HGTV in 2016.
Finally, toward the end of the year, the estranged couple was forced to issue a statement that acknowledged their status after word leaked that they had gotten into a monumental argument back in May.
To conclude this fight, Tarek grabbed a gun and stormed off into the woods.
Christina responded by calling the police. who eventually tracked her husband down and were told he was simply blowing off some steam with a hike; he took the weapon with him for protection from animals.
Since then, Tarek has filed for divorce and the reality star have said all the right things.
They’ve both repeated many times that the plan is to co-parent six-year old daughter Taylor and one-year one sold Brayden and that nothing matters more than the well-being of these kids.
But tabloid cover stories such as the one below have hinted at serious trouble beneath the surface.
Last we heard, Christina was angling for a new show without Tarek, as she’s conducted numerous interviews since the split and shared a number of revealing photos on Instagram.
She’s clearly been on a mission to make herself into a sympathetic figure/celebrity.
So… why would HGTV agree to more episodes of Flip or Flop with the El Moussas as host?
Because they’re legitimate stars now. D-List stars at best, but still much bigger names than they were previously.
Ratings have only gone up ever since the break-up was announced, with viewers likely tuning in each week to study and debate every interaction.
Yes, sex sells. But so does a lack of sex between two people who used to have sex and the tension that comes along with it.
Tarek is currently residing in Newport Beach and told People in March that he’s “adjusting” to splitting custody of daughter Taylor and Brayden “pretty much 50-50” with Christina.
“We had a talk and said, ‘We still want the kids to understand we’re a unit – that we’re still a family even if we’re not together,’” he said this spring.
Insiders have been saying, meanwhile, that Tarek has been pushing for an extended working relationship with Christina, if not even a reconciliation on a romantic level.
Flip or Flop premiered in 2013.
At the outset, the couple made a reported $ 10,000 per episode.
Over the past seven seasons, the series has become one of the network’s most popular, recently spawning spinoffs featuring house flipping experts working in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Nashville and Chicago.
“Tarek and Christina’s expertise and success flipping houses has made Flip or Flop an audience favorite on HGTV for many seasons,” says Allison Page, the general manager for U.S. programming and development for HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel.
“The series is so successful because it shows how real estate and renovation savvy can lead to financial success.”
Following this new deal, Flip or Flop will run to the end of 2017.
