Louise Linton, Wife of Treasury Secretary, Slammed for Obnoxious Instagram Post
A new scandal is brewing in Washington D.C.
But this one has nothing to do with Donald Trump.
Instead, the wife of Trump‘s chosen Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, has sparked severe backlash after bragging in an Instagram post about her designer wardrobe …
… while stepping off a United States government plane.
Louise Linton, a 36-year-old Scottish-born actress, flaunted her very rich lifestyle in a message she shared yesterday, publishing a photo of herself and her husband after they and their plane touched down on a tarmac.
“Great #daytrip to #Kentucky!” she wrote in the photo’s caption, having just arrived from a day with Senator Mitch McConnell.
Linton then made sure to hashtag the labels she was wearing, including designers Tom Ford, Hermès, Valentino and Roland Mouret.
The citing of these designers didn’t sit well with Jenni Miller, a mother of three from Oregon who responded to Linton’s photo and accompanying caption as follows:
“Glad we could pay for your little getaway #deplorable.”
In reply to this critique, Linton lashed out at Miller, inciting a bit of class warfare in talking down to someone she assumes is far below her in status.
“Awe!!! Did you think this was a personal trip? Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol,” Linton wrote, before penning the sentence that really got her in trouble online:
“I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did.
“Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.”
It’s safe to assume that Linton and her husband pay more in taxes than Miller due to their top income bracket.
But many would argue it’s also safe to assume they can afford to do so, thanks to their multi-million dollar bank account.
Most annoyingly to Internet users, however, was the presumption that not only is Linton going through some kind of major “sacrifice” as a result of this tax burden… but that Miller would not do the same if she were also very well off.
Linton wasn’t done, either.
“Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute,” she wrote in total condescension to Miller, adding:
“I know you’re mad but deep down you’re really nice and so am I. Sending me passive aggressive Instagram comments isn’t going to make life feel better.”
After getting roasted online for her responses, Linton went ahead and made her Instagram account private.
“If she hadn’t made her account private, I would have written back with a very snide Marie Antoinette joke,” Miller told the New York Times, noting that she thought Linton’s post was “wholly inappropriate.”
How come?
“I think my post was just five or six words, and she had to go on basically a rant about it to make herself look more important and look smarter, better, richer – all those things.”
It’s also worth asking:
What kind of person in general feels a need to alert the world about the designer clothes she’s wearing?
Let alone does so while walking off a government plane after, supposedly, conducting government business?!?

Rick Perry Tapped as Donald Trump"s Choice For Energy Secretary
Supporters and detractors alike assumed that a Donald Trump presidency was certain to offer plenty of surprises and questionable moves that would have Constitutional scholars poring over the revered document with a jeweler’s loop.
With his inauguration still more than a month away, however, Trump is flouting the rules and conventions of his office in ways that even the most chagrined alarmists wouldn’t have thought possible just a few weeks back.
Trump’s transition has been the subject of daily headlines, both for reasons thoroughly unexpected (a surprise visit from Kanye West), and widely feared (a cabinet packed with Wall St. insiders and fossil fuel profiteers).
Yesterday, Trump chose Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his secretary of state.
The move came as something of a surprise, as Tillerson has no government experience, and enjoys such close ties to Russia that Vladimir Putin awarded him the country’s Order of Friendship medal in 2013.
Tuesday, in an equally surprising move, Trump announced former Dancing With the Stars contestant and Governor of Texas Rick Perry as his choice for energy secretary.
The choice of Perry may not initially seem like such a shock.
After all the 66-year-old served three terms as governor, ran for the GOP presidential nomination twice, and he wears smart-guy glasses now!
But it was during one of those presidential bids that Perry was taught the same valuable lesson that Will learned when he tried to impersonate Carlton in that episode of Fresh Prince:
Specs don’t make the egghead.
During a nationally televised debate, Perry announced his intention to eliminate three government departments if he were to be elected.
Unfortunately, he came up short, and was only able to remember two.
He later revealed that the crucial third department that slipped his mind was – you guessed it – the Energy Department.
The very agency Perry will likely soon be in charge of.
“As the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry created created a business climate that produced millions of new jobs and lower energy prices in his state, and he will bring that same approach to our entire country as Secretary of Energy,” Trump said in a statement.
“My administration is going to make sure we take advantage of our huge natural resource deposits to make America energy independent and create vast new wealth for our nation, and Rick Perry is going to do an amazing job as the leader of that process.”
Trump went on to say that he chose Tillerson as secretary of state, because he’s also from Texas, which research has shown, is a state.
Okay, we’re kidding about that last part, but really…
… Would you put it past him at this point?

Rex Tillerson: Who Is Donald Trump"s Pick For Secretary of State?
The barrage of baffling information pouring out of Trump Tower these days is such that it can be hard to keep track of who’s been appointed to what cabinet position, and which random-ass celebrity has paid a visit to the president-elect.
To compound the confusion, Trump has taken to slamming intelligence agencies like the CIA (an unprecedented move by an American president) in response to their reports that Russian cyber-attacks were coordinated to help Trump win the Electoral College.
It would be an ideal time for a conciliatory, middle-of-the-road pick for a top cabinet position in order to at least create the illusion that Trump has the slightest interest in mending fences following the ugliest presidential campaign in US history.
But Trump didn’t lose the popular vote by a mere 2.7 million votes by adhering to the rules of conventional wisdom and common sense!
So if you had your fingers crossed that the Donald would keep his promises to “bring the country together” and act like a human being who has any business serving as the President of the United States of America, it may be time to bury those hopes along with the rest of your dreams for the future.
Yesterday, Trump’s team announced that Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson would be the president-elect’s choice for secretary of state.
The news was met with criticism from both sides of the aisle, as both Democrats and moderate Republicans had hoped for a more qualified candidate (say, someone who’s actually held some sort of public office before) with far less political baggage.
In addition to his ties with one of the world’s largest fossil fuel giants, Tillerson has a longstanding relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In fact, Putin awarded Tillerson Russia’s Order of Friendship medal in 2013, and the two have reached deals on billions of dollars in oil contracts that can only go forward if the US lifts sanctions against Russia.
Needless to say, folks who were hoping Trump would begin taking steps to distance himself from his Russian comrades are not thrilled with the Tillerson nomination.
In fairness, as CEO of Exxon, Tillerson did admit that climate change is a “problem,” and that’s it up to humans to find an “engineering solution.”
Of course, his company is also under investigation for lying to investors and the public about Exxon’s role in the climate crisis, so it looks like Rex is about as firm in his beliefs as his new boss.
In any event, the real loser here is Mitt Romney, who got roasted on social media for kissing some serious spray-tanned ass, only to be denied any sort of role within Trump’s administration.
Just kidding, the real loser is the American people.
We’re just trying to do that thing where we crack jokes to keep from bursting into tears.
