People"s Choice Awards 2018: And the Winners Were...

Nearly all the people have spoken.

Or at least many of them have done so.

On Sunday night, E! aired the 2018 People’s Choice Awards, as everyday citizens used their voice to vote for the second time in just a few days.

Instead of installing new politicians around the country, however, these votes determined the nation’s top shows, stars, movies and more.

Aside from honoring Melissa McCarthy with the first-ever People’s Icon Award and Victoria Beckham, who took home the first-ever Fashion Icon Award, who else earned trophies at the event?

Scroll down for a complete list of winners…

Kanye West Says Slavery Was a Choice, Accidentally Spawns a Meme

On top of espousing his love for Trump, sporting a MAGA hat, and claiming to have "dragon energy," Kanye West decided to also essentially blame black people for slavery.

It did not go over well. At all. And neither did Kanye"s attempted explanation.

Since Kim Kardashian has insisted that this is not a mental health issue, and since mental health advocates are discouraging people from blaming mental illness for bad behavior, many are left to assume that Kanye is just … bad.

Or at least suffering from the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

After this latest claim, that 400 years of slavery was somehow a choice that black people made, Black Twitter was all over it.

In real life, people know that slaves were separated from their families, forbidden to read or write, forced to abandon their religions, shackled, and often mutilated as punishment.

But, in order to satirize the absurdity of Kanye"s claims, these hilarious tweets try to imagine a world where slavery somehow was a choice.

The results are much, much funnier than the very grim subject matter. Take a look:

1. Imagine clocking out of slavery

Kanye slavery choice meme 01 clocked out

If slavery were a choice, many imagine that it would be similar to working today. Which can be less than fun, but definitely isn’t like real slavery.

2. So THAT was the secret!

Kanye slavery choice meme 02 text stop

The number that she chose is not random. It of course refers to the date of the Civil War.

3. Whoops!

Kanye slavery choice meme 03 select no

If only real life had been so civilized.

4. Some imagined how they’d choose masters

Kanye slavery choice meme 04 careerbuilder slavecare

“Slavecare” is a hell of an idea. Oh no, we hope that the writers of HBO’s trainwreck of a series “Confederate” don’t see this.

5. One "job" title was clearly coveted

Kanye slavery choice meme 05 house gif

Even slaves have varying levels of status. That’s a grim fact from history.

6. If it’s a choice, they could have said "no"

Kanye slavery choice meme 06 no thanks

Again, if only the colonizers and slavers had been more civilized.

Miley Cyrus: I Flaked on the Teen Choice Awards Because ...

Miley Cyrus was a no-show at this year’s Teen Choice Awards, despite being the recipient of the show’s highest award — the Ultimate Choice Award.

Which kind of makes you wonder: Miley, what’s good?

Miley does have an answer for fans who are wondering why she’d duck out of a show where she’d been scheduled to appear.

The Teen Choice Awards were last night, and while Riverdale and Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ruled the night, Miley was also supposed to be awarded.

But she was a no-show.

You might think that maybe Miley has reason to get cold feet.

After all, it was an award show where Miley twerked on Robin Thicke in an infamously ill-fitting costume.

We still have nightmares about it.

It was at an award show where Nicki Minaj and Miley’s possibly staged feud became a meme sensation when Nicki Minaj referred to Miley as the “b—h” who’d been talking about her the other day, famously saying: “What’s good?” to Miley.

Every response to Miley on social media for at least the next week was just some variation on “what’s good?!”

But Miley was scheduled to be there as an award-recipient, not to scar minds or get roasted on live television.

When Victoria Justice, beautiful treasure that she is, announced that Miley wouldn’t be there, she didn’t offer up an explanation.

It was Miley herself who took to Instagram with a lengthy post to explain what had kept her away from her fans.

“To my dearest fans & all of those watching @teenchoicefox! I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for presenting me with #TheUltimateChoiceAward!”

Well, yeah.

It might be a giant surfboard and therefore pretty inconvenient to display in most houses, but it’s the highest honor that the TCAs can bestow.

(Honestly, you can tell how old the TCAs are by the fact that surfboards were in any way representative of teen culture … because that is clearly no longer the case)

“I am beyond bummed I couldn’t make it to the show as I had every intention of being there to accept and celebrate this honor!”

We would imagine so.

The explanation that Miley offers up is actually pretty relatable.

“I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement!”

Anyone of any age can overestimate how much they can do or underestimate how time-consuming or onerous or exhausting a task will be.

It happens.

So plenty of us can get overwhelmed or overscheduled or overbooked.

(That’s an excuse for people, not for airlines)

But Miley mentioned an announcement that she had to make.

“I’ve been tryin to keep the secret but I can’t hide it any longer!”

By all means, go on.

“My new single / music video #YoungerNow will be dropping this Friday , Aug 18th & I am sooooooo EXCITED to share it with all of you!”

That’s this Friday, of course.

It’s also pretty late notice for anyone who isn’t Beyonce to announce a song or music video.

“I hope to always make people smile and shine light thru my work!”

That’s what the best music does.

Plus it makes people dance.

(Or cry)

“I look forward to making music for the rest of my life and I’m thankful everyday for those who listen!”

We’ve been hooked on Miley’s music career, for better or for worse, since “See You Again,” so we’re all kinds of excited to hear it.

Though we really don’t know what sort of song it will be.

“I am sending so much love and peace into the world right now because THATS what we need most!”

She’s right.

Miley was, of course, posting about the hundreds of white nationalists who were marching and doing Nazi salutes in Charlottesville over the weekend.

(And, of course, the vehicular terrorist attack that claimed the life of an innocent woman who was out to oppose the white nationalists)

“Love Love & more LOVE!”

She followed those words with ten heart emojis of various colors, including a couple of those ugly yellow ones.

Many might wonder if that’s a cover story and if perhaps she was busy getting secretly married.

And, well, you never know.

Personally, we’re just going to be looking forward to this new song.

We hope that this next song’s a freaking bop.

Miley has another one in her.

Rachel Lindsay: I Admit it, I Regret My Choice!

The first and most important news out of The Bachelorette: Men Tell All was, of course, that Dean Unglert is a clear favorite and would be perfect as the next Bachelor.

We already knew that, because we have sense.

Rachel Lindsay, looking back on Men Tell All and the entire season of The Bachelorette, is admitting that she regrets one decision — and would do it differently if she could.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Rachel Lindsay says that if she could go back and change one thing, she would have kicked one of the suitors to the curb way, way sooner:

“If I’m just honest, I’m going to be 100 percent honest, I’m just going to say one word: Lee.”

That would be Lee Garrett, folks.

You know, the one who got slammed for racism.

“I would have sent him home sooner.”

We should hope so.

You might think that the first black lead on The Bachelorette (shameful that it took so many seasons, by the way) wouldn’t be an inviting bride for, you know, racists.

But racism and reality television are both much, much more complicated than that.

First of all, not everyone goes on reality dating shows to find the love of their life.

They can’t all win, and they go into the show knowing this.

Getting to appear on another show in the Bachelor Nation or even just getting more social media followers an exposure is an amazing opportunity.

So long as they make a good impression.

Lee Garrett did not seem like a good guy — we’re not sure what he was hoping for, unless he thought that The Bachelor was going to cast him to court Trump fans or something.

As far as the idea of a racist guy trying to win the heart of a black woman goes, well, racism doesn’t make people blind.

Having black friends doesn’t mean that someone isn’t racist.

Having a black girlfriend or wife doesn’t mean that someone isn’t racist.

(And yes, that gets extra screwed up when children enter the mix and one of their parents has all of these prejudices that apply to them, too)

So … it’s sadly no surprise that Lee Garrett was competing for Rachel Lindsay’s hand.

If you remember from our The Bachelorette: Men Tell All recap, Rachel Lindsay was part of calling out Lee Garrett for racism.

During the special, Lee Garrett  tried to defend his actions, which really didn’t help.

During The Bachelorette, he kept getting into heated conflicts with other suitors.

Those other suitors tended to have something in common with each other — they were black.

Fans noticed.

Just about everybody noticed.

Lee’s excuse that he was “uncomfortable” and trying to “joke” to excuse his behavior … didn’t go over well.

Lee wasn’t only controversial for his actions on The Bachelorette — he also got into trouble for his antics on social media before he even went on the show.

Specifically, Lee Garrett’s racist tweets landed him in hot water with fans and on Men Tell All.

(Dude, even if you’re going to tweet super offensive stuff for whatever reason, maybe go delete them before you become famous)

They weren’t even old tweets that someone dug up — they were from within the last year.

There’s just no excuse.

Considering what those of you following The Bachelorette Spoilers already know, there are plenty of fans who think that Rachel Lindsay made a bigger mistake than letting Lee Garrett hang around.

Not everyone, to be clear.

But more than a few.

Actually, you don’t even need spoilers to know that sending Dean Unglert home before narrowing her suitors down to three was positively foolish.

But Lee Garrett had to go, as much because he and she clearly wouldn’t work out as to demonstrate to viewers how unacceptable he was.

But, you know, hindsight is always clearer.

And Rachel Lindsay didn’t know as much about Lee Garrett at the beginning of the series as she does now.

In many ways, if there were viewers who saw some of themselves in Lee Garrett and his excuses, maybe his example served as a wake-up call to them about their own choices and behaviors.

Still, we wonder if, in a year or so, Rachel Lindsay won’t have a larger regret about this season.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani: Going Strong at People"s Choice Awards!

Isn"t it so nice to see Gwen Stefani happy after the absolute mess that was her divorce from Gavin Rossdale?

It was widely reported that he had a long affair with their nanny, but whatever happened, Gwen was very clear about being traumatized from it.

After she filed for divorce, she spoke at length about how hurt she was by whatever it was that happened. It was awful.

But then she began dating her fellow co-star on The Voice, country star Blake Shelton, and things began looking up for her.

Gwen and Blake — Gwake, if you will — were very vocal about their love for each other for a while, to the point where they got a bit obnoxious.

Some people even began thinking the relationship was staged, things were so constantly, overwhelmingly sappy.

But in the past several months, it seems like these two have really settled into their relationship.

They don"t gush about each other every waking moment like they used to, and it"s been a nice change.

But don"t for one second think that their love has faded — and if you can"t help it, just check out this clip of Blake Shelton at last night"s People"s Choice Awards.

Blake won two awards, one for Favorite Album and one for Favorite Male Country Artist, and during his acceptance speech, he took a moment to talk about Gwen, who was in the audience.

Check out the incredibly adorable speech here:
