Sean Spicer Crashes Emmys, Inspires Harsh Backlash
Stephen Colbert opened the 2017 Emmy Awards with a musical number, prior to welcoming the audience to the annual celebration of television and then calling out…
… Sean Spicer?!?
Yes, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
The ex-Donald Trump lackey has grown into somewhat of a minor celebrity party due to the many lies he told from the administration podium and partly due to Melissa McCarthy"s popular impression of him on Saturday Night Live.
He appeared in this case after Colbert lamented how difficult it is to gauge these days just how many people watch a show.
“Sean,” he called out, “do you know?”
Enter Spicer and his podium.
“This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period, both in person and around the world!” Spicer announced, over hoots and hollers of the Emmy attendees.
This, of course, was a reference to Spicer’s own statement about PresidentTrump’s inaugural crowd size during his first White House press briefing in January.
Photos depicted a sparse gathering, but the Commander-in-Chief insisted otherwise.
“This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration — period — both in person and around the globe," said Spicer at the time.
Was this cameo unexpected? Yes.
Was it funny? To some.
Was it controversial? Heck yes.
Spicer was simply doing a job as Press Secretary, taking orders from his boss like so many others around the world.
But he also flat out lied to the American people and misled residents on issues of national importance… over and over and over again.
So now he just gets to enjoy the life of celebrity and even mock the type of manipulative, deceptive, shady, secretive administration that he played a major role in creating?
Many on the Internet were NOT having that…
Do you agree with these critiques?
Does Spicer deserve a second chance? Was he never especially guilty of anything in the first place, so there"s no need for any kind of second chance?
Are critics overreacting? Or was this an example of egregious impropriety on the part of Emmy producers?
Watch the segment and then decide for yourself:

Sean Spicer: Being COURTED for Dancing With The Stars! (Please Let This Happen!)
It looks like Dancing With The Stars might be about to get a whole lot … Spicey-er.
We’re not even a little sorry for phrasing it that way, because seriously, how else are we supposed to express our excitement — because DWTS is actively courting Sean Spicer.
We hope that the folks at ABC aren’t too attached to their mini-fridges, though.
Spicer resigned from the White House because he “strongly opposed the hiring of Anthony Scaramucci.”
(He probably just wanted to jump ship from a toxic work environment before the whole administration collapses under the weight of incompetence and lies)
Sean Spicer had hoped to go into the White House with integrity, declining to comment when necessary but always being truthful.
Instead, on his very first day after Trump’s inauguration, Spicer was sent out to lie about the crowd size at Trump’s inauguration.
(Even though there were pictures!)
It was all downhill from there, basically.
Spicer was constantly used less to answer reporter’s questions and more to reiterate or defend Trump’s tweets or nonsensical statements.
He was a target of ridicule, not only from comedians (we will always treasure Melissa McCarthy’s portrayal of him) but also from within the White House.
When the Trump Administration broke decades of precedent and banned video recordings by the White House press corps, Steve Bannon joked that it was because Sean Spicer was “too fat.”
Classy.
Mind you, this joke came from Steve Bannon, who looks like the cartoonish personification of liver disease and also like every single male NPC in every The Witcher game.
Still, though, that’s a toxic work environment and just a really, truly terrible job to have.
Sean Spicer may not be a good or ethical person, but we almost felt relieved on his behalf when he announced his resignation.
But now Sean Spicer’s newly “single,” as it were, and being courted by plenty of suitors.
Namely, networks that would love to have him as a commentator — if they think that he’ll be sufficiently entertaining for people to tune in.
And while Zack Braff tweeted out a joke that he looked forward to seeing Sean Spicer on Dancing With The Stars … it’s actually not that much of a joke, according to Page Six.
In fact, they report that Sean Spicer is being courted for Dancing With The Stars.
“That has legs,” their source said of the rumor.
If you think that this is somehow beneath the dignity of Sean Spicer … well, look at his last job.
But also, Sean Spicer has worn a bunny costume before for the White House’s Easter celebration (under the Bush Administration).
Just a few months ago, he hid behind some bushes on the White House in the hopes of not being seen by reporters.
(That didn’t work out so well)
He’s repeated blatant lies to the press just to soothe Trump’s ego.
In an effort to condemn Assad, Spicey accidentally made some wildly controversial (and false) statements that seemed to almost praise Hitler.
He also stole a mini-fridge from a White House staffer’s office after-hours, walking it back to his own office, because he didn’t want to eat in the commissary and no one would give him a mini-fridge of his own.
His career has been full of indignities.
Dancing With The Stars, at least, is supposed to be a little ridiculous.
And let’s not forget that former Texas Governor and (somehow) current Energy Secretary Rick Perry went on Dancing With The Stars after losing the primaries last year.
It turned out that he isn’t much better at dancing than he is at remembering the names of three government departments that he wanted to get rid of, as he was the second contestant to be eliminated on the show.
But if a current member of Trump’s cabinet was on the show so very recently, it’s easy to see Sean Spicer stepping up.
(Especially if they offer him enough money)
Neither ABC nor Sean Spicer have commented yet on the story.
But this would be a good move for Sean.
He’ll want to distance his brand as far as possible from Trump.
Even if he doesn’t want to come accross as “disloyal” to the man who thinks that loyalty is a one-way street that always leads to him, Spicey can create some distance by doing something endearing an apolitical.
Nancy Grace temporarily improved her public image as an accusatory firebrand when she appeared on Dancing With The Stars.
And we all remember Nancy Grace’s nip-slip, whether we want to or not.
We’re not saying that some dance moves and a wardrobe malfunction are all that it will take to redeem Sean Spicer in the public eye for his role within the Trump Administration.
But … it might be a start.
Unless, of course, he decides to just disappear completely from public life.
But that would be such a waste.

Sean Spicer Resigns!
Apparently, hiding in the bushes is no longer enough for ol’ Spicey.
Sean Spicer has resigned from the Trump Administration.
Reportedly, Sean Spicer resigned because he disagreed with one of Donald Trump’s decisions.
It wasn’t Trump’s blatant First Amendment violation in the form of banning countless Muslims from entering the US.
It wasn’t Trump’s weird sexual harassment or other innumerable social blunders that have embarrassed the administration and the country.
It wasn’t failing to acknowledge Pride Month or say anything about the LGBTQ crisis in Chechnya.
It wasn’t promoting a culture of racism and xenophobia.
It wasn’t even over the increasingly real possibility that Trump and an alarming portion of his family and his team broke the law in their communications with Russia, a hostile foreign power, in order to sway the 2016 election.
Nor was it Steve Bannon saying that Sean Spicer was too fat to allow cameras at the press briefings to excuse the White House’s obstruction of the press.
No, apparently Sean Spicer resigned because he disagreed with the appointment of New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director.
Everybody’s got a line that they won’t cross … and somehow, Spicey’s limit is Scaramucci’s appointment.
Sean Spicer apparently insisted that Scaramucci’s appointment was a huge mistake.
(Trump, in the mean time, apparently asked Spicer to stay on, but Spicer was reportedly not willing to do so)
Anthony Scaramucci is senior vice president and chief strategy officer at the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
Scaramucci was originally going to be appointed in January, but his appointment was delayed — allegedly by an ethics committee review.
(Even though those aren’t required prior to appointment)
George Sifakis was appointed instead.
Like so many of the people Trump has appointed, Scaramucci is very wealthy and doesn’t think much of people who aren’t rich.
Scaramucci once referred to DC politicians who weren’t wealthy as “jackasses.”
Also … his name makes him sound like a supervillain, and not even one of the cool ones.
Sean Spicer might be right, after a fashion, about Scaramucci’s appointment being a mistake for the Trump administration.
Anthony Scaramucci hasn’t always seen eye-to-eye with Trump and his team.
In a 2013 tweet, Scaramucci seems to express views that run directly counter to many of Trump’s incoherent statements.
“Last year a true statesman @mittromney said that Russia was a legitimate threat to our interests. Anyone questioning that now?”
We would be all kinds of interested in hearing what Scaramucci has to say about that now.
But this administration’s team has been full of contradictions and actions that run contrary to their stated beliefs.
Trump himself can’t seem to figure out exactly what he believes, as he’ll make contradictory statements within the same interview.
So … Scaramucci should fit right in.
Sean Spicer may be stepping down, but he’ll be forever remembered.
Not just for having been a part of the Trump administration’s carousel of deceit.
Not just for aiding in a campaign of misinformation.
Also not just for proudly waging a war against journalism.
(Not even for being famously described on social media as looking like the one guy in a zombie movie who’s been bitten but hides it from the rest for as long as possible)
No, honestly the most memorable thing about Sean Spicer will always be how Melissa McCarthy portrayed him on Saturday Night Live.

Steve Bannon: Sean Spicer Is Too Fat For Press Briefings
Steve Bannon is not the kind of guy you expect to engage in body-shaming.
For starters, he looks like if someone put a suit and tie on Keith Richards’ liver and taught it words like “globalist” and “cuck.”
On top of that, he’s a 63-year-old White House strategist, not a 15-year-old Taylor Swift fan trolling Katy Perry on Instagram.
But body-shaming is just what President Bannon is being accused of today after comments he made regarding Sean Spicer’s reduced role behind the White House press room podium.
Asked why more press briefings are taking place off-camera, Bannon didn’t give the obvious reply (“Have you seen those trainwrecks?!”), but instead delivered a one-liner that went over about as well as the first Trump Care proposal.
“Sean got fatter,” Bannon reportedly told a reporter.
The comment caught the attention of many social media users, including Chelsea Clinton, who called Bannon out for what she considers fat-shaming:
“The White House using fat shaming to justify increased opacity. 2017,” Clinton tweeted.
When several of Clinton’s followers pointed out that Bannon appeared to be joking, Clinton ammended her statement slightly:
“Oh ok. So using fat shaming to avoid answering questions about increasing opacity. Got it. 2017,” the former first daughter tweeted.
Few White House press secretaries have received as much attention as Spicer, and that’s not by design.
Spicer’s obvious ineptitude has made him a frequent target for ridicule and even inspired a series of memorable SNL sketches in which Spicer is played by Melissa McCarthy.
Judging from the reaction to his joke today, Bannon should probably leave the humor to her.
There have long been rumblings that President Trump would like to replace Spicer with Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders.
Reducing the amount of time Spicy spends on camera is seen by many as the first step toward replacing him with Huckabee-Sanders, so it’s not hard to see why Bannon would be keen to laugh off questions from reporters.
But we’re getting Spicer wishes Bannon would’ve chosen a different way to change the topic.
Even the most soulless of dead-eyed lackeys have feelings.
We think …

Melissa McCarthy Hosts Saturday Night Live: Watch Sean Spicer Make Out with Donald Trump!
Melissa McCarthy is just the best. Really, just an amazingly funny, top-notch human being.
We"ve seen it in interviews, we"ve seen it in her movies, and most recently we"ve been seeing it in her appearances on Saturday Night Live.
For the past few months now, Melissa has been making guest appearances on Satuday Night Live to do her incredible impersonation of Sean Spicer, White House press secretary.
But last night, she hosted the show. And that means that her Spicer skit was out of this world.
At the beginning of the skit, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is filling in for Spicer while he — wait for it — hides in the bushes outside.
It"s already beautiful.
He"s asked questions about the Comey firing and the Russia investigation, which, as you can imagine, he doesn"t handle with much patience.
"Let me just put this whole Russian thing to bed, once and for all," he finally yells. "Trump is innocent. How do we know? Because he told us so. Period."
It"s easy to forget that this is satire, isn"t it?
Finally, reporters ask Spicer about rumors that Trump plans on firing him and hiring Sarah in his place. And poor Spicey … he doesn"t handle it well.
And that"s how we came to have footage of Melissa McCarthy dressed as Sean Spicer, roaming the streets of New York City on the White House podium, looking for Trump.
When the president is finally found at a golf course in New Jersey, the conversation gets heated fast.
Spicer says that he doesn"t think he can do the job anymore, and Trump tries to convince him to stay, finally asking him to kiss him.
"I can"t," Spicer objects, "I have a wife, I took vows."
But Trump — good ol" Trump — tells him "I"m famous, it"s OK."
And so Melissa as Spicer and Alec Baldwin as Trump make out. Hard.
Watch it all go down in the clip below:
