Ken Howard Dies; Veteran Actor Was 71

Ken Howard, a veteran actor who also served as the President of the Screen Actors Guild, was found dead today near his home in Los Angeles.


He was 71 years old.



Howard possessed an impressive television resume at the time of his passing.


He portrayed the title character’s father on Crossing Jordan… starred in White Shadow on CBS… and also appeared on 30 Rock, Dynasty, The Thorn Birds, Murder She Wrote and Melrose Place.


In 2009, Howard took home an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Phelan Beale, husband of Jessica Lange’s Big Edie, in HBO’s Grey Gardens.


His most recently took on the role of a mop executive in the 2015 movie Joy.


Howard, who is survive by his wife Linda, was elected president of the Screen Actors Guild in 2009 and 2011.


He was re-elected as president of SAG-AFTRA after the guild merged with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
