Conservative people aren"t really into therapy, so when they agree to sit down with a professional, it"s a huge breakthrough.
However, these sessions are usually supposed to be private, because things can get super real and raw.
In other words, reality shows need to stop recording therapy visits. We as the audience are very happy that stars are getting help for their issues, but some things are too sacred, even in the name of ratings.
TLC excels at exploitation, so they had no problem sending cameras into a family therapy session on this Sunday"s episode of Sister Wives.
Meri and Janelle agreed to undergo treatment to mend their fractured relationship, as Meri continues to deal with the fallout from her "catfish" scandal in 2015.
"I"m totally excited they"re going to go into therapy together," Christine told the cameras in a clip.
"For them, it"s really exciting. It"s good. It"s a big, huge, scary step. It really is.
"There are so many relationships. When one is off, it really is off. It really makes everything off."
Well, there are five of you in this relationship, four of whom have ovaries.
During their session, the therapist encouraged Meri and Janelle to try role reversals, which she believes is key to helping the women understand each other more.
Janelle gave it the old college try.
"When I want to talk about something and you just shut down, I just think that you"re not interested in what I have to say or you"re not paying attention to me, because you just sit there." "You just sit there and you just blow me off," Janelle explained to Meri as Meri.
"I really want to work this out, I really want to talk about these things but you"re not even talking, you"re not even willing to address it. You check out."
Janelle hit the nail on the head, according to Meri.
"I get really frustrated when she does [blow me off] and my wall will go right up," Meri told the counselor.
"It"s like, fine. I"m done."
The catfishing scandal, in which Meri developed a relationship with a woman posing as a man online, was discussed in the season premiere.
"You didn"t want to be out of the family, you just wanted to be out of your relationship with me," Kody Brown accused his wife.
Get a clue, bro, Meri said (I"m paraphrasing here).
"Kody, this person got so far into my head that I didn"t know what end was up sometimes," Meri explained.
"And I"m still trying to get her out of there."
Watch the clip below, and tune into Sister Wives on Sundays at 9pm ET on TLC.
