Aretha Franklin: Gravely Ill from Cancer, On Death Bed

The music world may soon lose a legend.

According to multiple reports, Aretha Franklin is nearing the end of her brave battle with cancer and may pass away any day now.

The way some websites have written about it, she may even pass away any moment now.

About 18 months after Franklin announced her retirement from the recording industry, telling a Detroit TV station that she felt “exuberant” about this decision, sources tell TMZ that the singer’s health is failing.

An insider – who describes him/herself as a longtime and dear friend of the artist’s – has told TMZ that he/she was given a warning several days ago:

Prepare yourself, this personwas told, she’s dying.

The source adds Franklin was down to 86 pounds at the time this very unfortunate news was share — and that everyone in Aretha’s circle was told, about two weeks ago, that “she could go any time.”

Franklin is 76 years old.

It’s unknown at this time just which type of cancer she has reportedly been diagnosed with.

Over the last few years, Franklin has performanced on a limited basis, most recently taking to the stage last November at an Elton John AIDS Foundation event.

She is pictured in both snapshots above at this event.

The tragic news that the singer’s health is failing came from Roger Friedman over at Showbiz411; while WDIV TV in Detroit says Aretha’s family has confirmed she is gravely ill.

This, unfortunately, seems to be a confirmed report.

Franklin is known as The Queen of Soul.

One could make a convincing argument that she’s the most successful and/or influential female vocalist of all-time.

Yes, there’s Mariah Carey. Yes, there is now Beyonce.

But go ahead and ask either of those women who they admired as an aspiring singer, and then consider the following list of Franklin’s accomplishments:

– She was responsible for more than 20 number-one singles in the United States.

– She was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

– She won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance for eight consecutive years from 1968 to 1975.

– She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2005.

“I feel very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now,” Franklinonce said, in what sounds like a monumental understatement.

Roland Martin, a reporter who frequently covers Franklin, took to Twitter to share more about her condition on Monday morning.

“Many of you are asking me to confirm the health status of @ArethaFranklin,” he said, adding:

“Folks, I’ve known for several months. The Queen is surrounded by loved ones. That’s all I will say for now. Please keep her, the family and her longtime support staff in your prayers.”

roland tweet

Upon reading about Franklin’s potential, near-future fate, many top artists jumped on Twitter today and expressed their surprise and sorrow.

“My prayers are with Aretha Franklin & her family during this difficult time,” Tweeted Missy Elliott. “MUST CELEBRATE the Living Legends while they are here to see it. So many have given us decades of Timeless music.”

And Paula Abdul wrote:

“My love, prayers and warm thoughts are with Aretha Franklin—the Queen of Soul. I’m praying for her and her health. Thank you to all her family and friends who are standing by her and loving her through her illness.

“I’m holding you all in my heart.”

And then Carey summed up everyone’s take at the moment with the short and simple:

Praying for the Queen of Soul.

Ami Brown"s Cancer in Remission: Report

We’ve all seen the Alaskan Bush People Season 8 trailer tease Ami’s second chance, but we know that her battle with lung cancer is ongoing.

In fact, back in May, Ami Brown returned to the hospital. Sometimes, cancer comes back.

The good news, folks, is that it is once again in remission.

An insider reveals to RadarOnline that Ami Brown is in remission again.

“Ami is doing amazing,” the source describes.

Considering that Ami beat the odds and became one of the 3% beat back lung cancer not once but twice, we’d say that “amazing” barely begins to cover it.

Ami is doing well, the insider says, “and she’s ready to show everyone that miracles do happen.”

Last year, it was reported that Ami’s cancer was cured in a Christmas miracle. That’s not quite right, because it was early November and not really a cure, but it’s good to think positively.

Ami is back with her family at their homestead in Washington, a 435 ace property that Billy Brown purchased — to the outrage of some of the locals.

“Her doctors are all dumbfounded,” the source says. “At how she was able to almost beat this.”

Probably a combination of genetic factors, the fact that her family now has the resources to give her first-rate medical care in L.A. …. and, of course, her determination.

This is particularly impressive, the insider reports, “when she was in such a bad state last year.”

There was a time about a year ago when most fans did not expect Ami to survive to Season 8.

“But she did,” the source says of those doubts.

In fact, Ami and her cancer battle are expected to be a focus this season.

That and the family adjusting to their new home. And we imagine that Bear Brown’s injury and subsequent hospitalization will also get some airtime.

But Ami is doing better, the insider reports, “and she is looking forward now to getting on with the rest of her life.”

That is so wonderful!

Though, of course, she will continue to have to get regular check-ups several times a year to screen for the cancer’s return.

“This whole experience has been a total wake up call for Ami,” the source reveals.

Never take life or health for granted, folks. Also, maybe don’t smoke or hang around a chronic smoker.

The insider says that this has been illuminating for Ami “and for everyone in the Brown family.”

Of course. This is frightening but it can also be a learning experience.

The source reports that: “It has also made her and Billy closer.”

You’d think that a couple who’s been married for decades and raised approximately 1,000 children (okay, maybe “only” 7) couldn’t possibly be closer than they are.

But people can be surprised by what draws them to connect or reconnect with their loved ones.

It is, of course, wonderful to hear that Ami is once again in remission.

But she’s not out of the woods yet — and we don’t just say that because she literally lives in the wilderness. She is not free and clear just yet.

As we cautioned last time, cancer can return to rear its ugly head at any moment. She will need to remain vigilant.

Elvis Costello Cancels Tour, Reveals Aggressive Cancer Battle

With a heavy heart, Elvis Costello has had to cancel the remaining shows of his European tour

The reason for this, he reveals, is his battle with a very aggressive cancer.

In a very lengthy statement, Costello apologizes to the fans who will not get to see him.

Elvis Costello, whose birth name is Declan Patrick MacManus, released a lengthy and heartfelt statement on Facebook.

“Six weeks ago,” Costello begins. “My specialist called me and said, ‘You should start playing the Lotto’.”

That’s rare advice from anyone, particularly from a doctor.

Costello explains: “He had rarely, if ever, seen such a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy that could be defeated by a single surgery.”

It’s good to know that, despite that scary situation, it was treatable.

“I was elated,” Costello writes. “And relieved that our European summer tour could go ahead.”

“Post-surgical guidelines for such surgery,” Costello then explains. “Recommend three weeks to four weeks recovery.”

That makes sense! Surgery is a big deal.

Costello explains that the recovery time varies “depending on whether you are returning to a desk job or an occupation that involves physical work or travel.”

Of course. Sitting at a desk for work is still work, but not likely to strain your healing body in the same way that traveling to stand up on stage for hours will.

“It was impossible to judge how this advisory would line up with the demands on a traveling musician,” Costello admits.

He says that he was “playing 90-minute to 2-hour plus performances on a nightly basis but by the time we reached the Edinburgh Playhouse”

Costello says that it was going well, so “I was almost fooled into thinking that normal service had been resumed.”

“I have to thank our friends attending last night’s show in Amsterdam,” Costello writes. “And those in Antwerp, Glynde and at Newcastle City Hall for bearing me up.”

But

“The spirit has been more than willing,” Costello laments. “But I have to now accept that it is going to take longer than I would have wished for me to recover my full strength.”

That is so often the case, unfortunately.

“Therefore, I must reluctantly cancel all the remaining engagements of this tour,” Costello says with disappointment.

“My apologies go to our ticket holders in Manchester, Pula, Graz, Vienna, Tysnes and Rattvik,” he says with sorrow.

“But I would rather disappoint our friends there by not appearing,” Costello says. “Than in pressing on with a show that is compromised and eventually puts my health at risk.”

That is very wise.

Costello continues: “My deep thanks go to Pete Thomas, Steve Nieve, and Davey Faragher of The Imposters for all their deep friendship, love and support during this upsetting time.”

It’s good that everybody is onboard with him putting his health first and not overextending himself.

“Thanks also to Kitten Kuroi and Briana Lee whose beautiful voices have spurred me on to do the singing that I’ve managed, whatever the cost,” Costello says.

“It goes without saying,” he continues. “That there are many others who have worked to get us to the stage and from town to town to whom I am also deeply grateful.”

Naturally.

“To leave you with some more optimistic news,” Costello writes to his fans. “The Imposters and I – together with several of our other friends – have made a magnificent new record of which we are truly proud.”

Well that is exciting!

“It will be issued in October, I believe,” Costello shares. “We will return at the soonest opportunity to play that music and your favourite songs that still make sense to us all.”

He also has some advice.

Costello suggests that people look after their health, saying: “Take very good care of your loved ones but Gentleman, do talk to you friends – you’ll find you are not alone.”

“Seek your doctor’s advice if you are in doubt,” Costello advises. “Or when it is timely and act as swiftly as you may in these matters.”

Cancer is serious business.

“It may save your life,” Costello reminds fans. “Believe me, it is better than playing roulette.”

He’s absolutely right.

He signs off, writing: “Yours through music. Elvis Costello”

We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Joe Jackson: Hospitalized with Cancer, On Verge of Death

Joe Jackson has been hospitalized with terminal cancer.

And, according to multiple outlets, the father of Michael and Janet Jackson will almost certainly never go home again.

Those close to the Jackson patriarch tell TMZ that loved ones are rushing to Jackson’s side, hoping to say goodbye to the controversial figure prior to his passing.

Joe’s wife, Katherine, is reportedly at the hospital and she has been joined there so far by a handful of kids and grandkids.

“Joe is going to die any day,” an insider says simply to Radar Online, adding of his wife:“Katherine doesn’t think he will live until Monday.”

This same source says Joe’s relatives “are already planning his funeral,” saying that Joe has made his wishes well known:

“Joe wants to be buried next to Michael. So he’ll be laid to rest in the mausoleum, and so will Katherine.

“The Jacksons have already bought multiple plots at Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles, have spoken to police and arranged car services.”

Joe’s health has been in decline now for a number of years, as he suffered a stroke in 2015 and has also been diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer.

“He’s very very frail, he doesn’t have long,” Jermaine Jackson told The Daily Mail this morning. “The family needs to be by his bedside – that’s our only intention in his final days.”

Jackson, of course, is the father of the late Michael Jackson, as well as singer Janet Jackson and nine other kids.

This means he’s also the grandfather of Paris Jackson, the most prominent of Michael’s kids.

Joe was the manager of The Jackson 5 way back in the day, overseeing the group that made Michael into an icon via a rather heavy and scandal-filled hand.

He’s been accused on many occasions of abuse, infidelity and of fathering kids out of wedlock.

Specifically, Michael Jackson went on record before his own death of how Joe would force him to rehearse around the clock and how he was the victim of whippings and other forms of physical and emotional abuse.

Michael did also say that such strict parenting/managing contributed to his eventual success as an artist.

At this point, Joe is estranged from many of his sons and daughters.

A source close to Janet Jackson, for example, says that the star has been denied access to her father.

Joe’s daughter Joh’Vonnie Jackson, his sole child not with Katherine, has also reportedly not been allowed to see her father, despite their close relationship.

Joe does not want to be viewed in his current state, according to these reports.

His handlers have nee feuding with his family members over just who and who is not allowed inside Joe’s hospital room.

jj image

Jermaine confirms this account, saying that full access was really just granted on Thursday evening.

“No one knew what was going on – we shouldn’t have to beg, plead, and argue to see our own father, especially at a time like this,” he told the aforementioned British newspaper, adding:

“We have been hurting. We were not being told where he was and couldn’t get the full picture. Even from the doctor. My mother was worried sick.

“It’s what any family would want, but some people around him think they know better…and they don’t.”

Joe Jackson is 89 years old.

NeNe Leakes Reveals Husband"s Cancer Diagnosis

NeNe Leakes has opened up about the most personal and troubling of news:

Her husband has been diagnosed with cancer.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to share a photo of her and Gregg at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

She went ahead and then revealed this sad news via one simple photo and one simple caption:

The former features Gregg sitting next to a computer, which shows the word “cancer” crossed out on the monitor.

The latter reads as follows:

Our New Normal and the fight begins #f-ckcancer#mdandersoncancercenter #yougotthis #iloveyou.

Take a look at the image in question below and join us in sending thoughts and condolences to both NeNe and Gregg.

We don’t have any further information at the moment regarding Gregg’s type of cancer or his pronosis.

Multiple outlets have written that they’ve reached out to Leakes for comment and have not heard anything back just yet.

Three weeks ago, however, the veteran reality star canceled a series of her appearances, announcing that Gregg had been under doctor’s supervision for over two weeks.

“Today marks the 15th day straight that Gregg has been in the hospital,” NeNe said in an Instagram video message to her fans on May 21, adding:

“I find it very difficult to stand on stage and laugh and have a good time and give you guys your money’s worth knowing that my husband’s in the hospital not feeling well.”

Our guess is that Leakes wasn’t aware at this time just what the problem was with her husband.

“He has said to me over and over again, ‘Go on, go out there, have a good time, do the show, I’m going to be fine,"” continued Leakes last month.

“But I find it mentally very hard for me to do that.”

NeNe and Gregg have been married since 1997.

As loyal Real Housewives fans know, however, the duo briefly divorced in 2011, only to remarry two years later (as seen on NeNe’s spin-off series, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding).

Over the past several weeks, we’ve mostly written about NeNe due to her never-ending feud with Kim Zolciak.

The former friends have gone back and forth on social media forever, it seems ratcheting up their rivalry with accusations of racism and roach-infestations.

At this point, however, we’d have to imagine that the insults will stop for at least a little bit.

There are clearly more important things to focus on here.

Even Zolciak would probably send along best wishes to Leakes and her loved ones after learning this unfortunate piece of information.

We’ll update this story with messages of support from other members of the Real Housewives franchise once they come pouring in.

Hang in there, NeNe and Gregg.

Alaskan Bush People Season 8 to Focus on Ami"s Cancer

We have some good news for Alaskan Bush People fans…

… and also some really terrible news for Alaskan Bush People fans.

Unfortunately, the importance of the latter far outweighs the importance of the former.

But we’ll start with a programming update:

The long-awaited eighth season of this Discovery Channel hit will premiere on August 24 at 9/8c. Set your DVR and plan your upcoming vacations accordingly.

The really terrible news, however, has to do with just what these new episodes will focus on.

According to Radar Online, Ami Brown’s cancer has returned — and this tragic circumstance will serve as the crux of what fans will see on screen later this summer and later this fall.

“Ami went to UCLA with Billy and son Bear, and her cancer is back,” an insider has told the aforementioned celebrity gossip site.

Darn it. This sucks.

We reported in late May that Ami checked back into a California hospital in order to have further tests run.

At the time, however, we were still awaiting the results of these tests and had not heard any confirmation about the return of Ami’s illness.

The mother of seven was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer last year.

Her prognosis at the time was grim, but undergoing numerous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, the reality star announced she was cancer-free in December 2017.

For some awful reason, fans had taken this remission to mean that Ami never had cancer, an assertion that Discovery Channel Executive Vice President Laurie Goldberg had to actually address a few weeks back.

“Ami’s battle with cancer is very real,” Goldberg said at the time, adding:

“It is just disgusting that anyone would say her cancer is not real or that it was created for the show.”

Seriously. Not even the Kardashians would conjure up a cancer storyline for the sake of ratings.

This latest Radar report makes us feel sad, but also asks that fans remain optimistic.

That’s the approach Ami and her loved ones are trying to take.

“She is still dealing with some residual effects of her diagnosis and treatment, but she is continuing to recover well,” the insider says.

“She has the love and support of her entire family, and is determined to beat this.”

This same source concludes that the new season of Alaskan Bush People will tell a significant chunk of Ami’s story.

Not for the sake of ratings.

But simply because this show chronicles the lives of the Browns and this diagnosis is obviously the most important thing going on in those lives right now.

“It’s going to be a huge part of the upcoming season, and there will be interviews with her doctors and other medical professionals who have helped her along the way,” the source says.

Alaskan Bush People is currently filming for the new season in Washington state, far from the family’s native Alaska.

Expect plenty of changes to be afoot, except for one key one: the entire family will be involved.

Mackenzie McKee Reveals Tragic Update on Mom"s Cancer Battle

If you’ve been keeping up with Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 fame, then you know that things haven’t been great for her recently.

And that’s because things haven’t been great for her mother, Angie Douthit.

At the beginning of the year, Mackenzie and her family revealed that Angie had been diagnosed with stage four brain and lung cancer.

Back then, we heard that there were several tumors in her brain, and so many masses in her lungs that doctors stopped counting them.

Angie had gone to see a doctor in the first place because she thought she had bronchitis — since she was always very healthy and never a smoker, lung cancer didn’t seem to be even a remote possibility.

But, as so many of us have unfortunately learned, cancer is the worst, and it can hit anyone.

And it seems like it’s hit Angie particularly hard.

Last month, Mackenzie informed her social media followers that in addition to the brain and lungs, cancer had also recently been found in her mother’s bones.

In a brand new update, it sounds like things have gotten even worse than that.

The update was written by Angie, but Mackenzie posted a screenshot of it to Snapchat, and that’s how we’re getting a look at it.

In the post, Angie wrote that she’d gotten a phone call from her oncologist to discuss new test results.

“This is difficult to write because I wanted to be telling you this morning that the cancer was gone and I was completely healed, but God has a much different plan.”

Instead, she said that “It turns out I have two diffferent cancers. I not only have non small cell carcinoma lung cancer, I also have small cell lung cancer which is aggressive and that is why it has spread.”

Because of that, she’s getting a chemo port, and she’ll start “the dreaded IV chemo” on Monday.

Apparently she’s on a chemo pill now, and she’ll stay on it, with the addition of the port and the IV medication.

“I’m really their Pioneer Woman now,” Angie explained, “as they’ve never seen someone have both, who is a healthy, young non smoker.”

Seriously, can you even imagine running marathons and dedicating so much to your health and fitness and never, ever smoking, then getting two different types of lung cancer at once?

It must be so difficult for the Douthit family right now, especially since Angie also said that both types of lung cancer only have a prognosis of 12-18 months with treatment.

“I didn’t sleep at all last night praying and telling God my heart,” she wrote. “My family is very upset and sad. But you know what? My God is way bigger than cancer.”

“He loves me and has a plan for my life. I know he was asked because I was asked, just yesterday, to speak at two more churches.”

“And,” she continued, “I have 3 new grand babies on the way who need their Nannie.”

As if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough, she then asked anyone reading her message to pray “that chemo will not weaken me or make me sick,” and “as silly as this seems, please pray that my eye lashes and eye brows won’t fall out.”

“That’s all I have left!”

She also asked everyone to “pray that I won’t be afraid of the chemo,” and insisted that “I want to live, but I want God’s will more.”

It sounds like her faith is a big comfort for her right now, and how wonderful is that?

Although her prognosis isn’t good and things seem to be getting worse, it sounds like she’s at peace with it all, at least as much as she can be.

And that’s not nothing, you know?
