Matt Lauer Apologizes for Causing "Hurt, Damage and Disappointment"

Matt Lauer has finally addressed the actions that prompted NBC to fire him in the middle of the night on Monday.

Two days after he was let go due to what network executives deemed to be “inappropriate sexual behavior,” the long-time Today Show host has issued a lengthy statement.

He doesn’t deny very much about what has been said about him in it.

Through his own publicist, Lauer said the following this morning.

We’ll just go ahead and run it word-for-word:

There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry.

As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.

Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.

I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly.

Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job.

The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love.

I thank them for their patience and grace.

Lauer, of course, is the latest major name in Hollywood to be accused of some kind of sexual harassment or misconduct.

Sparked by a report that exposed producer Harvey Weinstein as a serial predator, victims have been inspired for weeks to come forward.

As a result, A-Listers such as Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K. and Charlie Rose have been exposed, accused fired or all of the above.

But Lauer is probably the biggest name so far, considering how long he had served as lead anchor on Today, greeting millions of viewers every morning.

There had been rumors for years that NBC might let him go due to alleged attitude problems and falling ratings.

Not due to the sort of allegations that are now surrounding the embattled star.

He reportedly sent co-workers sex toys and demanded they be used in his presence.

He reportedly dropped his pants in front of underlings and asked them to perform a sex act.

He reportedly bent a staffer over a chair in his office and had sex with her against her will, to the point that she passed out halfway through the interaction.

These accusations are way past the point of the occasional inappropriate or misguided touch.

It seems truly astounding (and confusing and depressing) that such actions could have been going on for so long at such a major program; without colleagues either knowing or caring enough to do anything about them.

And it’s beyond disturbing that Lauer may have actually committed these acts, of course.

Today remains the most-watched morning program among viewers between 25 and 54, the demographic most coveted by advertisers in news programming.

Lauer had been the head anchor since 1994, earning more than $ 25 million per year with his new contract.

It’s unclear at the moment who will take his place alongside Savannah Guthrie each morning, but that’s not really anyone’s focus right now.

We’re just trying to figure out what happened at the show, how it went unreported for so long… and whether we’d feel bad if Lauer were hung by his toenails for the next several hours.

Upon dismissing Lauer, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said the following:

“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer…

“Our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected, and to ensure that any actions that run counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter who the offender.

“We are deeply saddened by this turn of events. But we will face it together as a news organization – and do it in as transparent a manner as we can.”

We’ll continue to keep readers apprised of this horrible story as it develops.

Tamra Judge Rips Critics, Abuse Claims: I Would NEVER Hurt Sidney!

The Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Judge has been absolutely relishing her vow renewal to husband Eddie this month.

That said, she has plenty of other things on her mind.

Denying accusations lobbed at her by estranged daughter Sidney, Judge offered more than just an update on her romantic trip to Aruba.

Tamra, 49, made her first statements directly referencing the bombshell abuse claims made by her 18-year-old, long estranged child.

“So many wonderful memories made. Although bittersweet,” Judge wrote on Instagram and Twitter, along with a broken heart emoji.

“I want to say thank you to everyone that has reached out to see if I’m okay,” Tamra responded to her daughter‘s post, pointedly adding:

“I/We are trying our best to enjoy our vacation. Thank you to my Mom who is not taking this very well and feels the need to defend me.”

“I love you Mom. I love my daughter and I would NEVER abuse, hurt or neglect her in any way,” the Bravo reality TV mainstay continued.

This past Monday, Sidney Barney went off on Judge as “no mother” to her, explaining the reasons for their ongoing rift in blunt terms.

“The reasons I left my mothers house are that she was neglectful (leaving us at home with no food or simply ignoring us entirely),” she said.

“She constantly put herself first and the biggest reason was that she was mentally and emotionally abusive,” Sidney shared.

Many who watch The Real Housewives of Orange County online and haven’t seen Sidney in years have wondered why this is.

Many more who follow Tamra’s life off screen are inclined to believe the teenager, though Judge takes issue with her claims.

To her credit, after defending herself, she pleaded to fans not to harass her daughter and to “direct [comments] at me if you need to.”

In her latest post, Judge attempted to protect Sidney by requesting that her fans “do not send Sidney negative messages or comments.”

The mother of four did clap back at Gretchen Rossi, whom she called a “thirsty wannabe” after the RHOC alum echoed Sidney’s criticisms.

To put it mildly, Tamra did not hold back.

“I usually don’t give this troll any attention because it’s exactly what she wants,” Judge said, before absolutely unloading on her rival.

“After years of her bashing me and now reaching out to my daughter I must say. Gretchen you are the biggest piece of s–t I’ve ever met.”

“Move on with your sad empty childless life and stay out of mine you thirsty wannabe. You have NO IDEA What my family is going through.”

Tamra’s divorce from Simon Barney was as ugly as it gets, and her relationship with Sidney has clearly become a sad casualty of this.

That doesn’t mean she isn’t at fault – or that her comments are appropriate – but it’s a more complex situation than many fans realize.

Not that she’s putting it in those terms when Gretchen inserts herself into the situation and Tamra feels she has to hit back doubly hard.

Judge absolutely burned Rossi:

“It’s just an opportunity for you to get your name in the press. #obsessedfreak. Funny you of all people should be talking about morals.”

“You have none!”

Wow.

John Hurt Dies; Veteran Actor Was 77 Years Old

The entertainment world has lost another legend.

John Hurt, a veteran big screen star best known for his lead role in The Elephant Man, died on Friday night after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was 77 years old.

After TMZ shared the strong rumor late yesterday, this tragic piece of news was confirmed by Hurt’s very good friend, Richard E. Grant, on Twitter.

“So so sad to have lost such an extraordinary talent and friend. Sir John Hurt. R. I. P.,” wrote Grant.

Hurt was a two-time Academy Awards nominee whose career spanned six decades.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2014 and his Oscar nods were earned for for 1978’s Midnight Express; and for playing the title role of John Merrick in David Lynch’s e 1980 biopic, The Elephant Man.

But you may also recognize Hurt from his roles in the following films:

  • Alien

  • V for Vendetta

  • Harry Potter

  • Dr. Who

  • 1984

  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

  • Snowpiercer

  • Jackie

The beloved actor is survived by his wife of 12 years, Anwen Rees-Myer, along with two sons.

She spoke to The Daily Mail shortly after Hurt passed and told the newspaper of her late husband:

“John was the most sublime of actors and the most gentlemanly of gentlemen with the greatest of hearts and the most generosity of spirit. He touched all our lives with joy and magic and it will be a strange world without him.”

Hurt portrayed wand merchant Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter film franchise, giving author JK Rowling a chance to get to know him.

“So very sad to hear that the immensely talented and deeply beloved John Hurt has died. My thoughts are with his family and friends,” Rowling Tweeted several hours ago.

Hurt had filmed a trio of movies prior to his death.

Down the line, he will be seen in That Good Night, My Name Is Lenny and Darkest Hour, playing Neville Chamberlain.

In 2012, Hurt was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Speaking about his pancreatic cancer diagnosis to People Magazine in the summer of 2015, Hurt said the following:

“I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team.”

It was believed that the cancer had gone away some time that fall, but all indications at the moment point to complications related to the disease as the cause of Hurt’s death.

“I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it,” he told The Radio Times later in life. “We’re all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly.”

Hurt did the most he possibly could with his time in that chair, however.

May he rest in peace.

Leah Messer on Parenting Critics: They Hurt My Feelings!

Monday night’s season premiere of Teen Mom 2 featured a scene that’s drawn a lot of attention to Leah Messer for all the wrong reasons.

The episode shows Leah apparently denying her daughters breakfast as she rushes them off to school.

In addition to claims that Messer is neglecting her daughters by failing to properly feed and clothe them (6-year-old Grace complained that she was cold on the drive in, and blamed Leah for not dressing the girls for the weather.), Teen Mom fans have also fired off harsh tweets at Leah for texting while driving with her kids in the car.

Leah’s response has drawn almost as much criticism as her actions, as she responded to allegations that she’s unfit parent by tweeting that “Grace was being a drama queen.”

Now, Leah is elaborating on her feelings about those on social media who agree with her baby daddies about her lack of parenting skills.

“It does hurt my feelings,” she told a fan. “My girls scream to be with me because I am a GREAT MOM!”

Well, we know from Monday’s episode that they certainly do scream. We’re just not sure if it’s for the reason Leah thinks.

Leah has complained in the past that the show is edited in such a way that it makes her look like a worse mom than she is.

Of course, Corey Simms insists the opposite is true, claiming Teen Mom producers helped Leah hide her drug addiction.

So maybe the truth is somewhere in between, and the series is actually more honest than most reality shows.

Watch Teen Mom 2 online to decide for yourself.

Leah Messer: So Hurt By Corey Simms, Miranda Patterson Tag-Teaming Her on Teen Mom 2!

Tension between Leah Messer and Corey Simms on the Teen Mom 2 reunion was palpable, and sources say it has not died down since the taping.

The confrontation between Simms, his ex-wife Leah Messer and Miranda Patterson – his current, pregnant wife – was the culmination of a lot of things.

Things that made it awkward to watch Teen Mom 2 online, honestly.

An emotional and dramatic reunion between the three came after a season in which fans saw Leah struggle with a serious mental health disorder.

And/or a prescription drug addiction. It was never explicitly clear.

In any case, the reunion also followed rumors that Corey banged Leah in his truck while meeting to discuss the kids – and while married to Miranda.

“Things happened that shouldn’t have happened and it was disrespectful to Miranda and I have apologized,” Messer admitted on the reunion.

“That’s the only time,” she insists, “that I disrespected her.”

But Simms and Patterson were a united front throughout the episode, and basically used it to blame and sabotage Leah at every opportunity.

An inside source tells Us Weekly of the West Virginia mom:

“She is really hurt by this. She’s not perfect and she knows that but she’s been doing so well, and she loves those kids more than anything.”

“Leah’s considering putting Gracie and Ali into therapy.”

The source also notes that despite her problems, Messer has been unfairly scrutinized and edited, and is trying hard to get her life back on track.

“Leah is doing great. She has actually grown as a person,” the source says. “Leah is not on pills right now. She’s not on drugs. She’s doing so well.”

The source adds that Messer has even gotten support from her second ex-husband Jeremy Calvert, despite what Teen Mom 2 might imply.

“Like Corey and Jeremy would ever set up a time to sit and chat. That’s all production,” the source says. “Jeremy knows she’s a good mom.”

Does he, though? And is she, though? You tell us …
