Mary Tyler Moore Dies; TV Legend Was 80 Years Old

Mary Tyler Moore, the beloved veteran actress who influenced a generation of female comedians via her iconic role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, passed away today in a Connecticut hospital.

She was 80 years old.

The legendary star was admitted to the hospital this week following a lengthy battle with Diabetes. She also underwent brain surgery in 2011 and has struggled with a number of healthy problems in recent years.

In 2014, friends said Moore was suffering from heart and kidney problems and was on the verge of going blind.

Hence why she had not been spotted out in public very often.

According to TMZ, Moore was on a respirator for over week prior to her passing.

Her rep, Mara Buxbaum, issued a statement to TMZ that confirmed this tragic news:

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine.

“A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Few women have left as indelible a mark on the entertainment industry as Moore.

She rose to fame as the character of Laura Petrie, a wife and mother on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which ran from 1961 through 1966.

In 1970, she signed on to portray Mary Richards, a news producer in Minneapolis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It ran for seven seasons and is considered one of the funniest, most respected and appreciated sitcoms in TV history.

Here is a look at Moore and other members of the cast from the mid-70s:

On the big screen, Moore was best known for two movies:

  1. 1967’s Thoroughly Modern Millie.

  2. 1980’s Ordinary People, for which she was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Moore’s most recent television credits included three episodes of That 70s Show in 2005 and an appearance on Hot in Cleveland in 2013.

In May 2011, Moore underwent elective brain surgery to remove a benign meningioma.

She was also a self-confessed alcoholic, detailing this personal struggle in a pair of memoirs.

A long-time animal rights activist, Moore worked over the years with Farm Sanctuary to raise awareness about the process involved in factory farming.

She was dedicated to the compassionate treatment of farm animals and was the co-founder of Broadway Barks, an annual animal adopt-a-thon held in New York City.

Married three times, Moore suffered a personal tragedy in 1980 when her only child, 24-year old son Richard, died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound after playing with the weapon at home.

But it was Moore’s contribution to the world of comedy that will live on forever.

She will forever be on the short list of influential stars, anchoring a television show as a woman during a time when actresses rarely received such an opportunity.

We join the TV world and entertainment world in general in sending our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Mary Tyler Moore.

She was an icon. May she rest in peace.

Shemar Moore: I Did Not Diss Thomas Gibson!

Shemar Moore would like to clear the air when it comes to Thomas Gibson.

Late last week, Gibson was fired from Criminal Minds, losing the job he held on that CBS drama since 2005 after he kicked a producer in the shins.

According to various sources, the incident (which occurred about two weeks ago) was merely the latest violent confrontation for Gibson on set.

Executives had enough and let Gibson go from his role as Aaron Hotchner as a result, issuing a terse statement to the public in response.

“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds,” it read.

“Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”

While reaction poured in from across the television landscape in response to this stunning development, Moore was the one who made headlines for his reply to the firing.

Or, perhaps we should now say, his alleged reply to the firing.

“Lot of birdies chirping out there. The gossip is real,” Moore said in a video that he has since deleted, but which we’ve shared above.

He added:

“I hear it. I see it. I’m sure a lot of you do too. So I’ll just say this. I believe that good things happen to good people. Honest people.

“Hardworking people. Humble people. People who believe in basic goodness. Treat people how you expect them to treat you.”

A majority of folks out there assumed that Moore was referring to Gibson with these words, with insiders saying the co-stars often clashed during their many years together on Criminal Minds.

(Moore departed the series toward the end of Season 11.)

But Moore now insists this wasn’t the case.

“They spun that all wrong,” Moore told a paparazzo on his way to a workout on Tuesday.

The actor then brought up an ongoing lawsuit he has filed against Keith Tisdell, a Criminal Minds guest star who Moore alleges stole $ 60,000 from him via embezzlement.

“It could’ve been [about] the guy from the lawsuit,” Moore told the paparazzo, concluding

“But mostly it’s about life.”

Sure, maybe. But it could also be about life AND about Thomas Gibson.

Moore did post the video just days after Gibson was fired.

Gibson, meanwhile, is considering a lawsuit of his own.

He handled his firing with a simple, fair statement, but sources say he has met with an attorney to figure out his next move.

“I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years,” Gibson said on the day he was let go.

“I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”

The question is now this:

Will Criminal Minds replace Gibson this season?

And will you still tune in to the long-running series on CBS?

Shemar Moore on Thomas Gibson Firing: Karma is Real!!

Criminal Minds alum Shemar Moore seemingly threw shade at Thomas Gibson after the latter got fired from the CBS show late last week.

In a since-deleted Instagram video, the 46-year-old actor likely alluded to the events that got Thomas Gibson fired, saying “karma is real.”

Said Moore, an original cast member who parted ways with the procedural crime drama after 11 seasons (it’s now heading into its 13th):

“Lot of birdies chirping out there. The gossip is real.”

“I hear it. I see it. I’m sure a lot of you do too. So I’ll just say this. I believe that good things happen to good people. Honest people.”

“Hardworking people. Humble people. People who believe in basic goodness,” he adds. “Treat people how you expect them to treat you.”

While Moore later deleted the video, nothing ever disappears from the Internet, and it was captured by a fan and reposted on Twitter.

He didn’t name names, but the timing made it clear:

Moore was calling out Gibson, who was suspended for kicking a writer on the show last week and subsequently issued the pink slip.

“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds,” ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement last Friday.

“Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date,” the confirmation said.

Sources say Gibson was directing an episode that was written by Virgil Williams (pictured above, with the actor) that led to the dispute.

He disagreed with Williams when it came to an unknown “creative choice,” which led to a few words being exchanged between them.

The incident culminated in Gibson kicking Williams in the shins and was seen by several producers, showrunner Erica Messer included.

Following the fight, Williams filed a formal complaint with human resources representatives for ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios.

Initially suspended for two weeks, the actor was fired.

According to reports, Gibson may sue with the aid of Skip Miller, a prominent litigator with experience in entertainment industry disputes.

Roger Moore Mourns Loss of Daughter to Cancer

Roger Moore and his family are in mourning this week.

The actor, forever best known for having played James Bond on the big screen, lost his stepdaughter to cancer on Monday.

Christina Knudsen was 47 years old.

Moore broke the very sad news on Twitter today, saying his family is “heartbroken” after her death while sharing two sweet photos of Knudsen.

“We were all with her, surrounding her with love, at the end,” the 88-year-old British actor wrote on his social media account.

Knudsen, who Moore says was known as “Flossie,” is the daughter of Kiki Tholstrup; she is Moore’s fourth wife, who he married in 2002.

The late 47-year old was a graduate from the University of Southern California with a major in literature and psychology.

She also studied contemporary art for a master’s degree at Christie’s, making her career in property development and interior design.

Here is another photo of Knudsen shared online by her proud stepfather:

Knudsen was also an avid equestrian, owning seven horses overall, including Wesko, her champion horse, who was on the short list for the New Zealand team at the Rio Olympics.

Moore and Tholstrup currently reside in Switzerland.

Most fans remember Moore for having portrayed 007 in seven films from the James Bond franchise – including The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only – but his humanitarian achievements on behalf of UNICEF have earned him numerous other honors.

He was  appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991; and has been a special ambassador for the U.N. children’s charity since.

In 1989, Queen Elizabeth II named him a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE); and a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in June 2003.

We send our condolences to his family.

Scotty Moore Dies; Guitarist For Elvis Presley Was 84

Scotty Moore, the pioneering guitarist who helped Elvis Presley bring rock and roll to the masses in the 1950s, has passed away.

He was 84 years old.

His biographer, James L. Dickerson, confirmed the death in a statement to various news outlets this afternoon.

“As a musician, I consider him one of the co-founders of rock ‘n’ roll because of the guitar licks that he invented,” said Dickerson.

He added that Moore passed away in Nashville surrounded by family and friends.

No cause of death was given.

Elvis’ ex-wife, Prisccilla Presley, also spoke highly of Moore in an interview conducted shortly after news of his death went public:

“Elvis loved Scotty dearly and treasured those amazing years together, both in the studio and on the road. Scotty was an amazing musician and a legend in his own right,” she said.

“The incredible music that Scotty and Elvis made together will live forever and influence generations to come.”

A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Moore was the last surviving member of the combo that included Elvis, Bill Black and legendary producer Sam Phillips.

His contributions to such Presley classics as “Heartbreak Hotel” and “All Shook Up” made him one of the early engineers of the sound that would come to define the early era of rock and influence young musicians like Keith Richards and Jimmy Page.

“Everyone else wanted to be Elvis,” Richards once said in an interview. “I wanted to be Scotty.”

Moore and Presley parted ways on bad terms following an argument about compensation, but in his memoirs, the guitarist would lay the blame not on Elvis, but on the unscrupulous team who managed the young singer in his early career.

The collaborators briefly reconciled for Presley’s 1968 comeback television special.

In his later years, Moore worked as a recording studio manager, businessman, and prolific audio engineer.

“He was a class act as a human being,” Dickerson said of Moore today.

“Besides being one of the best guitarists that ever lived and most inventive, he was a great person, and you don’t always find that in the music industry.”

Kenya Moore Shares Jay-Z Throwback Photo, Throws Shade at Beyonce

When is a Throwback Thursday photo not just a Throwback Thursday photo?

When it appears to pour fuel on to the fire of an alleged divorce scandal that centers on one of Hollywood’s most powerful couples.

Earlier this week, we reported on the rumor that Jay-Z had moved out and that his marriage to Beyonce was in serious trouble.

We have no idea whether or not this piece of intriguing chatter is true or not, but Kenya Moore appears to have jumped all over it for some reason.

A day after the break-up rumor went viral, Moore shared the above #TBT picture on Instagram.

She also included a caption with it that seemed to throw a bit of shade at Beyonce.

“On set of #moneyaintathang with Jay-Z circa 1998 #happytoworkwithhim such a gentleman and talented rapper turned mogul,” she wrote, adding:

“#booked #ineedanewbentley #funtimes #setlife. Wish @beyonce was there.”

Is The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member actually flirting with Jay-Z here?

Is she actually taunting Queen Bey?

One would think not because, come on… who dares to cross the Queen and her man?

But how else would you interpet the timing of this posting and the message affiliated with it?

Tread carefully here, Kenya. That’s all we’re gonna say.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 8 Episode 15 Recap: Kim Fields vs. Kenya Moore!

Sunday night on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 8 Episode 15, the drama and shade-throwing were absolutely off the chain.

We know, right? FOR ONCE!

If you watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta online, you recall that last week, gay rumors involving Kim’s spouse took center stage.

Well, we picked up last night with Sheree Whitfield telling Kim Fields that the women called her husband, Chris Morgan, “fruity or gay.”

Kim’s response? “Chris is a wonderful husband and father and we’ve been together happily for 10 years and it’s good,” she said calmly.

Pretty straightforward, right? If only.

Kenya Moore said, “I don’t think we really care either way if your husband is gay or whether or not you guys are having tax problems.”

Tax problems? What the … anyway:

“You portray like everything is perfect. It’s not really perfect, so we just want the real Kim Fields to show up. You have this wall up.”

“It’s like you’re reading from a script.”

At that point, Kim up and left – still calmly – and later, she told NeNe Leakes and Phaedra Parks that Moore had put a target on her back.

Leakes can sympathize. And help.

“You can never be passive amongst this group of ladies,” NeNe explained to the Bravo cameras. “I’m just trying to help Kim out.”

Phaedra clearly agreed, arguing, “The only way to stop a bully is if you punch them square in the face … we got your back.”

Later, at NeNe’s urging, Kim took it to Kenya head on: “I feel like at some point, Kenya, you’ve crossed a line into disrespect of me.”

“That’s not going to be tolerated.”

“So let’s have no communication or cordial communication, but at the end of the day you’re not going to talk about my family.”

“You’re not going to talk about me.”

Damn. You got served, Kenya.

“Congratulations for being able to speak for yourself,” Moore snapped back, adding, “I don’t hate you. I’m indifferent to you.”

“I have come a long way with a lot of girls at the table. Whether we get there or not, I don’t know. I just am not willing to spend any more effort.”

“If we’re at an impasse, we’re at an impasse.”

Cynthia told Kenya that if nothing else, she owned her an apology for trying to yank her chair out from under her a few days earlier.

That Kenya admitted, “was out of line.”

To see what happened when the topic turned to Moore’s role in the infamous commercial, and how Cynthia and NeNe responded?

Follow the links above. Because wow.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap: Kenya Moore Says Kim Fields" Husband is Gay

Sunday on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 8 Episode 14, the drama mounted between dueling s–t talkers Cynthia and Kenya.

Then Kenya asserted that Kim’s husband is gay. Seriously.

If you watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta online, you will see what could have been a run-of-the-mill feud escalate beyond belief.

When Kenya brought up the supposed rumors about Chris – Kim Fields’ husband – and his sexuality, that was, well, pretty abrasive.

“I know y’all have heard the rumors. They call him Chrissy,” Kenya said after Kim went to prep for her commercial shoot in the morning.

“Who calls him that?” Phaedra Parks asked, noting that he can be “high strung and sassy” but skeptical that Kenya knows anything.

“The industry,” Moore shot back, channeling her inner tabloid. “For 10 years, there have been pervasive rumors about Kim’s husband.”

The women laughed, noting Chris’ past career as a Broadway singer and dancer, as if he wouldn’t be openly gay if he were … gay.

Sheree Whitfield and Cynthia Bailey, surprisingly, stayed quiet despite having ample opportunities to knock Kenya down a peg (or 20).

The next night, Sheree wasn’t as willing to let it slide when the topic came up … and straight up told Fields what people were saying.

“The conversation about Chris is much different that last night,” she told the Bravo cameras. “I can’t deal with it. I am allergic to fake s–t.”

Naturally, we’re left hanging until next week as far as how the ladies react when held accountable for spreading this particular gossip.
