We learned early on during The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 2 just for whom the horn tolled at the end of last week’s premiere:
Wolves.
Rick’s plans to clear Alexandria of endless walkers last Sunday was interrupted by the arrival of a herd of terrifying maniacs, all of whom had the letter W carved into their foreheads.
The hour actually opened with a flashback to the day a car breakdown led to Enid’s parents being killed by zombies.
Following this incident, a teenage Enid wandered through the woods, eating anything she could find and writing “JSS” everywhere possible. For what reason? Keep reading…
From here, we returned to present day, with Alexandria residents going about their regular routines.
But this idyllic afternoon was ruined by the wolves, who were both inside the gates and outside the gates, prompting Carol to go into full Badass Mode.
While Carol was making sure the newly dead did not turn, Jessie jumped out to protect her family, using her haircutting scissors to stab a wolf very much dead.
Spencer, meanwhile, took out a wolf with his rifle. The villain proceeded to fall on the horn, which is what we heard to wrap up The Walking Dead Season 6 premiere.
With Alexandria turning into a war zone, Denise needed a pep talk from Tara and Eugene to snap into medical action, although she failed to save her first patient.
Amidst all this chaos, Enid stopped by to say goodbye to Carl. Before slipping away, she left him a note that read Just Survive Somehow. And there it is: JSS!
Elsewhere: Morgan tried to reason and plead with a wolf, asking him nicely to leave. But Carol intervened and shot the guy, disagreeing violently with Morgan’s pacifist philosophy.
Later on, Morgan was surrounded… but he still chose not to kill any wolves.
Instead, he scared them away by claiming they were surrounded by survivors with gun, telling one of his attacks from the episode “Conquer” if “you keep choosing this life, you will die,” to which his old foe replied:
“We didn’t choose.”
At the conclusion of a VERY bloody hour, Carol nearly smoked one of her late neighbor’s cigarettes out of exhaustion and sadness… Aaron found his old backpack (with photos of Alexandria inside) on one of the felled walkers… and Morgan was once again faced with his ex-adversary, this time having no choice but to kill him.
