Kendall Jenner is one of the most popular fashion models in the industry today, but that don’t impress legendary designer Calvin Klein much.
The Calvin Klein brand signed Kendall on as their spokesperson last year, but Klein himself, who is no longer part of the company, says she would not have been his choice had he been in charge.
During a talk at Savannah College of Art and Design, he was asked how he felt about the reality star appearing in his campaigns.
“You know, I’m really not that familiar with it. I’m honestly not. I’m sure she’s a lovely young woman,” said Klein just before admitting that he really wasn’t a fan.
“It’s not the kind of thing I would have done, even today,” he said.
However, there is one new model who he does approve of.
“Justin Bieber, yes.”
Klein went on to suggest that Kendall was selected not because of her look or her modeling skills, but because of her popularity.
“When [I say] I like Justin Bieber in the Calvin Klein Underwear [campaign], it’s because I like him — not because he’s got millions of followers,” he explained.
“Now, models are paid for how many followers they have. They’re booked not because they represent the essence of the designer, which is what I tried to do — they’re booked because of how many followers they have online.
“I don’t think that, long-term, is going to work. I don’t think that’s a great formula for success for the product you’re trying to sell.”
We have to admit, she seems completely awkward (and superfluous) in this homoerotic ad for CK.
Sorry, Kendall.
On the other hand, way to go Biebs!
