Christina Grimmie: Why Didn’t the Teen Choice Awards Air Her Victory?
Christina Grimmie won Choice Web Star: Music at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night.
The honor, of course, was handed out posthumously because Grimmie was tragically shot and killed by a deranged fan on June 10 in Orlando.
The late singer’s victory, however, was not included on the broadcast itself, which has reportedly raised some ire among her fans and even members of her family.
Granted, the the awards show did not announce every award during its live production.
And, granted, Choice Web Star: Music was likely not considered one of the most popular or significant categories of the night.
But producers also failed to include Grimmie in the event’s most emotional segment, a tribute to family members of victims of gun violence.
At one point during the ceremony, Jessica Alba introduced a handful of teenagers who have been affected by recent shootings, including Alton Sterling’s son Cameron.
The actress took to the stage and asked viewers to take a stand via the hashtag #StoptheViolence.
To many, this seemed like the ideal moment to honor Grimmie, whose murder took place one night before the massacre at nearby Orlando nightclub Pulse.
Here is a look at portions of Alba’s tribute:
“While we are glad that Christina finally won her much-deserved Teen Choice Award, we are also definitely disappointed that her name was not mentioned at any point during the two-hour broadcast,” an insider close to the Grimmie family told Entertainment Tonight.
“It seems they could have paid honor or tribute to her in some way and that opportunity was missed. The fans have a right to be upset.”
Also making many online angry?
The fact that the Teen Choice Awards sent out an official Tweet that prior to Sunday’s show that read:
“Retweet to vote in memory of @TheRealGrimmie for #ChoiceMusicWeb Star. #TeenChoice.”
Critics feel as if the show exploited Grimmie’s memory.
“I can’t believe that the TCAs didn’t even acknowledge Christina Grimmie’s win or mention her death within the gun violence portion,” one Twitter user wrote.
A Change.org petition is now circulating that calls for an apology from the Teen Choice Awards and the Fox network.
In part, the petition reads as follows:
“As the final categories were announced and Jason Derulo came out to close the show, millions of hearts collectively shattered at the realization that Teen Choice and Fox went out of their way to ignore and completely avoid addressing the terribly tragic passing of one of their own nominees.”

Cameron Dallas Just Slut-Shamed Jessca Alba at the Teen Choice Awards
Someone named Cameron Dallas owes Jessica Alba a major apology.
The quasi celebrity tried to make a name for himself at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, accepting the surfboard for Social Media King and then trying to be all witty afterward.
Playing a quick (and random) game of “Would You Rather” backstage, Dallas was asked whose toothbrush he would prefer to use, that of Justin Timberlake or that of Jessica Alba.
He chose Justin Timberlake.
Which, you know, sure, whatever, cool, fine.
But then he gave his reasoning for this selection.
“I would honestly choose Justin Timberlake just because I don’t know where Jessica’s been,” Dallas says, just trying to make a joke, we guess.
But what kind of joke is that?!? The kind where Jessica Alba is all gross and promiscuous?!?
Not that she needs our defense in any way, shape or form, but for the record:
Alba has been married to Cash Warren since 2008. She has two kids with her husband. There has not been a single rumor of infidelity in their eight-plus years of marriage.
But whatever.
Who is Cameron Dallas to make any sort of disparaging remark about any woman’s sexual past no matter what?!?
Making this matter even worse?
Alba led a tribute at the Teen Choice Awards to the victims of gun violence across America.
So while Cameron Dallas was being a sexist fool, Jessica Alba was being an inspiring activist, as you can see below.
@camerondallas what gives you the idea that it’s okay to slut shame Jessica Alba on live tv. Your publicist will have fun with this one. – @dacissej
And the Internet took notice.
Here are a handful of reactions to Dallas’ unfunny joke:
I’m offended on behalf of Jessica Alba after hearing Cameron Dallas at the #TeenChoiceAwards #TeenChoice – @kelseyncastro
@camerondallas what gives you the idea that it’s okay to slut shame Jessica Alba on live tv. Your publicist will have fun with this one. – @dacissej
Where has @jessicaalba been, @camerondallas? Running a multi-million dollar company and raising a family. Punk. – @lindsayraedenn
Clearly aware of all the backlash he was receiving, Dallas jumped on Twitter last night and wrote the following:
Yo it was literally a joke, I love @jessicaalba and would share a toothbrush with her till I die lol. Really thankful for the message @jessicaalba spoke tonight, that’s what we should focus on.
Yes, we know it was a joke.
And we don’t doubt you are sorry, dude.
But it was a joke rooted in sexism. That’s the entire point.

Teen Choice Awards Honor Gun Violence Victims, Ask to #StopTheViolence
The Teen Choice Awards are not known as one of the more serious ceremonies in Hollywood.
This year’s version, for example was co-hosted by John Cena and Victoria Justice.
It also hands out surfboards instead of trophies and its categories include Choice AnTEENcipated Movie Actor and Choice Female Hottie.
Still, on Sunday evening, the 2016 Teen Choice Awards stopped and took a few moments to go from goofy to emotional.
Joined on stage by the loved ones of victims killed in recent shootings, Jessica Alba told their stories and the stories of the family members these people lost.
“Here with me tonight is a group of brave teenagers who share an unlikely bond that is hard to comprehend. They are the brothers, sisters, daughters and family members of recent victims of gun violence,” the actress said to open her speech.
“I am talking about Aurora, Baton Rouge, Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, San Bernardino, Newtown. It keeps happening, and it has to stop.”
Alba went on to say that each teenager on stage was connected to someone who died via gun violence.
It was tragic stuff to hear.
“J.T. [Lewis] was just like you, until he lost his 6-year-old little brother, Jesse Lewis, one of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in Newtown,” Alba said, adding more names to the list:
“Jolene and Colin wake up every day missing their mother, Bennetta Betbadal, who was one of the 14 people killed in San Bernardino.”
Some critics may say this was an inappropriate platform to use in order to send a political message.
But nearly anyone with a pulse had to be moved by the message anyway.
“Tonight we stand together with these teens, united in our call for peace and an end to this violence,” Alba said. “Now more than ever we need to stop, feel and ask what’s going on.”
From there, Ne-Yo took the stage to perform Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.”
As he sang this classic track, photos of gun-violence victims and their families flashed on a screen behind him.
Again, powerful stuff.
“These teens had the courage to come here and share their grief and take a stand,” Alba told the crowd after Ne-Yo performance. “And tonight, Ne-Yo and I and all of us here and all of you watching need to do the same.”
Ne-Yo then asked attendees to come together as one by snapping a picture of the teens on stage and Tweeting it with the hashtag “#StopTheViolence.”
This isn’t the first time this summer that an awards ceremony sent an emotional message in regard to ongoing violence affecting America.
Take a look below at four of the best basketball players on the planet opening the ESPYs by talking about troubled race relations in the country:

Bree Olson: Charlie Sheen"s Regrets Her Career Choice
Your heart breaks a little for Bree Olson, who"s only claim to fame is being one of Charlie Sheen"s "goddesses."
Olson spoke candidly about the shame she feels as a woman in adult entertainment in a video for Real Women, Real Stories.
"I came from the adult industry but then I transitioned into the mainstream industry but I encountered a lot of issues with my transition and people not accepting me into the mainstream world," Olson said, adding that she had wanted to do porn since she was a teenager.
"The names that people have called me, it"s as if if you could take out those names and print them and put a ribbon around my whole body of all the names and things that people say to me on the internet, that"s how I feel when I walk outside the door.
"The words are something that I didn"t expect to affect me in my everyday life, so when I go out I feel as if I"m wearing "slut" across my forehead.
"So I have really got into the point where there are days to weeks at a time where I don"t leave my house because I don"t feel like facing the world of what has been created out there for me."
A career in porn proved lucrative for Olson, but the stigma attached to it isn"t worth it, she admits.
""I gave up between $ 30,000 and $ 60,000 a month and I could just go back to porn today and still make that. "I could go back to porn and make $ 20,000 just in one week if I wanted to this week and I don"t because that"s how much I don"t want my photos on the internet."
"People treat me as if I am a pedophile," she said. "They don"t treat me like an ex-sex worker, they treat me like I would somehow bring damage to children."
Watch the video below for more on Olson"s interview.

Gwen Stefani BEGS for Help to Watch Blake Shelton at Kids" Choice Awards!
Carson Daly recently said that nothing can keep Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton apart, but he was wrong. There is one thing.
Technology.
Last night, Blake Shelton hosted the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, and his girlfriend Gwen Stefani was trying desperately to watch from Japan.
Unfortunately, she seemed to be experiencing technical difficulty trying to stream the show, and issued a plea for help on Twitter, complete with a range of crying and exasperated emojis.
Luckily, she got an assist from, wouldn’t you know it, her two-year-old son Apollo.
Gwen found a hack to watch her bae by FaceTiming with the tot, who was in the audience near the stage.
A fan tweeted at the “Used to Love You” singer with a photo of Apollo, who she caught in the crowd holding a phone behind Blake.
This just goes to show, if you need help with technology, it’s best to consult a toddler.
Apollo wasn’t the only one of Gwen’s kids supporting their mom’s beau at the KCAs. The pop singer’s seven-year-old son Zuma was there as well, looking adorable as ever.
Gwen tweeted this photo of the lad, looking stylish with a couple of friends.
He’s even wearing cowboy boots! Could this be an homage to Blake? What does Zum’s dad Gavin Rossdale think?
Zuma keeps his look fresh with a Diesel denim vest and some hip eyeglass frames, so his mom’s fashion sense clearly rubs off on him.
Wonder what he’ll wear to Blake and Gwen’s $ 2 million country wedding that’s not really happening.
We’re glad Gwen finally got to watch the show. We’d hate to see the emoji tsunami she’d unleash if she couldn’t.

Random Dude Attempts to Pull a Kanye at People"s Choice Awards, Gets Booted By Sharon Osbourne
There weren"t many surprises at last night"s 2016 People"s Choice Awards, which is just how the show"s producers like it.
When the entire country votes for its favorite movies, music and television shows, well…the most popular stuff wins, so you can pretty much look at the ratings, the charts, or the box office numbers and figure out who"s going to win.
That said, the evening featured some highlights that we don"t think anyone saw coming.
In fact, there are a couple clips from last night"s broadcast that have become certified viral gold this morning.
One of them was touching (Vin Diesel"s tribute to Paul Walker), and the other was just plain hilarious.
It seems some random aspiring rapper thought it would be a good idea to interrupt the cast of The Talk as they accepted their award for Favorite Daytime Hosting Team,
It"s not exactly Taylor Swift winning a Grammy, but this dude isn"t exactly Kanye West, as he quickly proved with a rambling, nonsensical mic-bomb:
“Shout out to Kevin Gates, he has an album,” the dude said, before dropping a reference to the King of the Interruption. “Yeezy just jumped over the Jumpman…yessir.”
The ladies of The Talk didn"t miss a beat, with Sharon Osbourne giving the guy a swift kick in the ass, and Sheryl Underwood informing him, "You ain"t gonna pull no Steve Harvey up in here!"
Wow. Is "pulling a Steve Harvey" the new term for effing-up on live TV?
Somewhere, Steve"s all, "Survey says – I"m depressed!"
Watch the hilarious stage-crash fail in the clip below.
Vin Diesel Pays Touching Tribute to Paul Walker at the People"s Choice Awards
At last night"s 2016 People"s Choice Awards, Furious 7 took home two of the night"s top prizes, winning for both favorite movie and favorite action movie.
While the franchise is known for its eclectic ensemble cast, star and producer Vin Diesel took the stage by himself to accept the awards – but he wasn"t alone in spirit.
As you likely know, Diesel"s co-star and close friend Paul Walker was killed in a car accident in 2013, and given Walker"s crucial importance to the Furious films, Diesel"s acceptance speech wouldn"t have been complete without a tribute to his late friend.
"You know, as I was coming up here, I always do this. I say I"m not going to get emotional about winning these awards, and I was cool when I was sitting in my seat, and then they handed me two awards," Diesel told the crowd as he fought back tears.
"One for favorite action movie and one for favorite film. You all thought that this was your favorite film. I think of Dom and Brian and I start to think of Paul.
He closed his speech by crooning a few bars from Charlie Puth"s "See You Again," a song that"s come to be closely associated with Walker and his passing:
"I thank you so much and the only thing I can say now, "It"s been a long day without you, my friend, and I"ll tell you all about it when I see you again,"" Diesel said, the crowd roaring as he broke into song.
It was a moment that matched any awards show highlight in terms of pure emotion, and it was a tribute that fans of the franchise, as well family and friends of Paul Walker"s, will cherish for years to come.
