Richard Marx Restrains Passenger on Airplane, Shrugs Off "Hero" Status

Back in 1989, Richard Marx rose to fame by singing that he’ll be “right here waiting for you.”

But we had no idea that the artist was portending an event to come, directing this seemingly romantic lyric at an unruly passenger on board a Korean Air flight.

Confused? Allow us to explain…

Over the weekend, Marx and wife Daisy Fuentes were flying from Vietnam to South Korea when a drunk passenger became violent and actually started attacking those around him

His victims included both flight attendants and other passengers.

As detailed on Fuentes’ Instagram account, the singer wasted no time, jumping in diffuse the scary situation, which the staff seemed both too overwhelmed and confused to handle.

“On our flight from Hanoi to Seoul a guy sitting in the next row from us got crazy & started attacking the flight attendants & passengers. When he started pushing the female staff and pulling them by the hair @therichardmarx was the first to help subdue him,” Fuentes wrote as a caption to the following photo.

It actually depicts Marx in action, along with those on board who apparently decided to snap pictures instead of offer any assistance.

As you can see, a flight attendant is pointing a Taser gun at the passenger in one photo, while Marx is holding him down in another.

There’s also an image of Marx holding white rope, presumably to tie up the inebriated man.

Added Fuentes, a former MTV VJ:

“This went on for FOUR hrs. I feel horrible for the abuse the staff had to endure but no one was prepared for this. They never fully got control of him.

“They didn’t know how to use the taser & they didn’t know how to secure the rope around him (he got loose from their rope restraints 3 times).”

Marx later took to Twitter in order to give fans an update, and also to criticize the training of the Korean Air employees on board.

“Daisy and I are home safe and sound,” he wrote, shrugging off his actions and adding:

“No big “hero” move at all. Just did what I would hope anyone would do in same situation. Tnx 4 concern.”

He then elaborated on Facebook, expounding on what happened and saying flight attendants were “ill-equipped” to deal with this kind of situation:

Pretty crazy, huh?

Not what happened on board the airplane. That’s not all that surprising.

People get drunk all the time on flights, it’s just surprising this time it was a celebrity coming to the rescue instead of getting kicked off (see below).

But Richard Marx is married to Daisy Fuentes?!?

We had no idea. Well done, man!

As for those aforementioned drunken and/or unruly airplane passengers? These famous people can relate to the dude Marx had to hold down…

Late Passenger Attempts To Catch Flight. On The Runway.

He set off a fire alarm, jumped off a jet way then ran onto the tarmac of Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain on August 5th, all in an effort to make his Ryanair flight to the Canary Islands.

According to Huffington Post, the passenger (whose identity authorities haven"t yet released) carried two bags as he broke every rule of Sky Law, BUT WAS STILL ALLOWED ON THE PLANE.

Airport employees recorded the video, which was then shared on CC.OO. Ryanair & Lesma Handling"s Facebook page.

"This is how passengers in Madrid behave when they don"t arrive in time for their flights," the translated caption reads.

"This particular passenger was missing a Ryanair"s flight and, unbelievably, skipped several security protocols established by AENA in their airports. We"re talking about level 4 security protocols! Not even with all those protocols we can feel safe…"

When the plane finally reached its destination, the passenger was detained by local authorities, CNN reports.

It"s unclear whether or not the plane had to taxi back to the gate in order to let the passenger on, or if he was pulled into the aircraft with a rope (disclaimer: this an assumption).

A spokesperson for the Madrid Airport clarified that the passenger had "no terrorist motivations," nor did they suspect him of being a terrorist because he had cleared security before busting through a fire escape.

What a jerk.

It also appears that Mr. Jerk was chasing the wrong plane.

“It seems that he got on to the tarmac because he’d missed his flight but the plane he was trying to get on wasn’t his,” the spokeswoman explained.

“When he realised that, he got on the flight to Gran Canaria.”

What a lark!

Authorities speculate that though Mr. Jerk will not face jail time, he"ll likely be slapped with some hefty fines.

JetBlue Passenger Not Allowed On Plane Because Her "Shorts Were Too Short"

I guess it’s better than being kicked off for drunken antics?

A Seattle-based burlesque dancer was told by gate agents at Boston’s Logan Airport that the length of her shorts were unacceptable, and she would therefore not be allowed to board her connecting JetBlue flight.

The passenger, who goes by Maggie McMuffin, recapped the ordeal to her local CBS station, KIRO-TV.

“The flight crew had discussed it and the pilot had decided that I needed to put something else on or I would not be allowed to board the flight,” she explained.

McMuffin – who donned a sweatshirt, thigh-high socks and shorts – said she wasn’t questioned about her outfit on a flight out of New York before connecting in Boston.

A gate agent approached McMuffin and told her that “she was really sorry for bringing this up but just what I was wearing was not appropriate and the flight crew had discussed it and the pilot had decided that I needed to put something else on or I would not be allowed to board the flight.

“I was told it was the pilot’s final say so these are not official rules that can be broken,” she said, adding that she had to run to another terminal to buy a $ 22 pair of shorts.

JetBlue issued a statement after the incident:

“The gate and on board crew discussed the customer’s clothing and determined that the burlesque shorts may offend other families on the flight. While the customer was not denied boarding, the crew members politely asked if she could change.

“The customer agreed and continued on the flight without interruption. We support our crew members’ discretion to make these difficult decisions, and we decided to reimburse the customer for the cost of the new shorts and offered a credit for future flight as a good will gesture.”

The airline gave McMuffin a $ 200 credit and refund for the shorts.

Who knows? Maybe JetBlue was trying to avoid an in-flight incident involving McMuffin and an irate puritan.

American Airlines Passenger Subdued, Flight Diverted After 9/11 Rant

An American Airlines passenger who went on a bizarre rant referencing the 9/11 attacks was subdued by his fellow passengers yesterday.

The flight was diverted to Phoenix en route from L.A. to Philadelphia.

Shortly after the left LAX, the man walked to the front of First Class.

There, he started shouting about government corruption and psychological warfare. According to witnesses, he ominously told them:

"We will all see the truth, and I will be famous today."

Two men who appeared to be regular passengers, impressively jumped up and restrained the man, wrapping a belt around his fists.

At that point, he grew angrier, shouting that he had a gun, yelling about September 11 and pointing "finger guns" at people nearby.

While this was going on, the airline pilot circled for more than an hour to burn off fuel, before diverting to Phoenix and getting him out.

Homeland Security Officers came aboard and removed the suspect, seen in this video moving slowly down the aisle with his hands up.

Passengers were worried about his luggage and what could be in it, but the crew removed it before the flight continued on to Philly.
