Brandy and Monica Wish Whitney Houston a Happy Birthday. Bitter Chaos Ensues.

Brandy Norwood and Monica Brown each jumped on Instagram yesterday to wish Whitney Houston a posthumous happy birthday.

The legendary singer, who died of a drug overdose in 2012, would have been 54 years old on Wednesday.

Why is this noteworthy?

Why are we writing about the seemingly innocent act of two artists acknowledging someone who has a great influence on their career?

Because the birthday wishes devolved into a reignition of an old feud between Brandy and Monica, culminating in the former going off on an angry rant against all haters on Instagram.

We’ll start with Monica’s message in honor of Houston.

It included a black and white photo of the late superstar, along with the following caption:

Happy Heavenly Birthday Nippy … You still inspire many & touch hearts daily… You will forever be the greatest …. You will forever be missed.

Pretty simple and very sweet.

A few hours later, Brandy shared a collection of photos of herself and Houston, writing a lengthy note alongside it that reads as follows:

Lord have mercy on my soul!!! Happy Born Day Whitney. You live on in me… I can feel your Spirit inside of me and all around me.

My angel, my friend, my fairy God Mother. I love you forever… thank you for trusting me with the torch!!!

I remember every moment with you and I and I will cherish these miraculous moments forever and ever! I love you…. 

Also pretty simple and very sweet?

Nope, not according to critics who destroyed Brandy for turning Whitney’s birthday into an occasion that celebrates her.

(We’re not sure if we agree with each of the critiques below, but it is rather comical for Brandy to claim Houston passed her the “torch.” Has anyone ever considered Brandy to be the next Whitney Houston?!?)

“There’s a BIG difference in Monica & Brandy’s posts about Whitney today,” wrote one Twitter user. “Only one of them was actually about Whitney.”

In response to these attacks, Brandy – who starred opposite Houston in a movie version of Cinderella and whose brother starred in the Kim Kardashian sex tape – wrote a long and bitter message to Monica and her supporters.

And we mean LONG and BITTER.

“It’s so much stuff I can post about the hateful things they say to me… but I will never have time for that. Always thinking something is about her. It’s not!!!!…

Brandy went on to suggest Monica stop her fans from attacking her, noting they’re “low key Brand fans anyway” and awesomely adding:

“Come get your hating ass pigeons and put them in their place the way I did for you when the starz was out of place…

“I’m not to be F–ked with today! If this was rap or hip hop you would be praised for speaking your mind but since it’s rnb you have to take the so called high road…

“well because I can rap just look at this as my high road.”

In conclusion, wrote Brandy:

Too real to be fake and because this is my idols birthday, I’m allowed to defend my position in her life and hers in mine. That’s what I have to hold on to.

This is easily our favorite feud of the year, and maybe of the decade.

Louis Tomlinson: THIS Was My Mother"s Dying Wish

In December of 2016, Louis Tomlinson was forced to say goodbye to his mother.

At the young age of 42, Johannah Deakin died of cancer.

In a statement at the time, the family said it was filled with “immeasurable sadness” as a result and “respectfully [requested] that the [they were] given time and space to grieve in private.”

A few months later, however, Tomlinson has spoken out about his late mother, talking to The Sun about one of the final things she said to him before passing away.

“My mum said, ‘You’ve got to get back in contact with Zayn. Life’s too f-cking short,"” Tomlinson told the British newspaper, adding:

“A mother’s intuition is just f-cking crazy. It always felt supernatural to me. My mum always knew what I was feeling and what I wanted.”

The artist, of course, is referring to Zayn Malik, his former colleague in One Direction who quit the boy band back in March of 2015.

Since that departure, Malik hasn’t exactly spoken positively about his time in One Direction, either, once slamming the quartet’s music as “generic.”

He and Tomlinson even got into a Twitter dispute shortly after Malik’s announcement, prior to the entire group taking a hiatus.

But that was then.

Now, Louis says he’s taken his mother’s pleas to heart and reconciled with his former friend and fellow singer.

“I can’t stand to hold a grudge with anyone. It doesn’t sit with me right,” Tomlinson told The Sun.

“If there is any animosity, just clear the air. I met up with him and it was nice.”

Describing Malik as “just a little misunderstood,” Tomlinson says he and Zayn were especially close just a few years ago.

He doesn’t think they’ll ever be besties again, but at least they are on solid terms now.

“I could always break the rules a little bit with Zayn,” he told The Sun this week.

“So after that whole thing, it was that brotherly love. We will always have that love for each other. I can’t speak on behalf of him but we really care about each other.”

As for how he’s holding up overall in the wake of his parent’s death?

“Throughout the time after my mum died I felt the support,” he told publication, adding:

“It stretched past the fan base. People did have my back, it was a really nice feeling…

“I’m thankful that my mum pushed everything onto me because I know I’m dealing with it really well.”

Duggar Fans Throw Shade at Michelle, Wish Jana Happy Mother"s Day

If you watch Counting On online, you’re probably aware Jana Duggar is much more than just the oldest sister in her family.

Dubbed “the Cinderella Duggar” by fans, Jana has long played a maternal role to her many younger siblings, and many fans think she does more in terms of day-to-day child-rearing than the family’s actual matriarch, Michelle Duggar.

Jana has committed the unforgivable sin of not being a married baby factory at the age of 27, so under Duggar Law, she’s not allowed to have a social media account.

But yesterday, she was permitted to step away from the kitchen momentarily to wish Michelle a happy Mother’s Day on the Duggars’ official website.

“Mama, we’re so grateful for you and the many years you’ve invested in our lives, from the late night talks to the early mornings getting up and fixing us breakfast,” Jana says in a group video.

“There’s many more things that we appreciate about you, but those are just a few that really stand out.”

But some fans of the Duggar clan apparently don’t share Jana’s views on Michelle.

In fact, it seems a lot of the family’s social media followers believe Jana is the one who deserves praise 

“Happy Mothers Day Jana! You have done more child-rearing than your mother ever has,” wrote one fan on the Duggars’ Facebook page.

“Everyone gives Meechelle the credit but all she ever did was push them out and then hand them over for someone else to raise.”

“Actually a super sweet video, but for realllz where is Jana’s shoutout?!” commented another.

“She practically raised those kids! Happy Mother’s Day Jana!”

More than one fan pointed out that Jana appears to be carrying on her maternal role for a whole new generation today, as she’s reportedly indispensable in helping her sister Jessa Duggar with the raising of two young children.

Michelle, meanwhile, often seems more concerned with ensuring the continued success of the family media empire than with raising her youngest children and grandchildren.

Clearly, Duggar obsessives have reason to believe that Jana is da real MVP.

But if they think Jana will ever join them in seeing things that way, they’re sadly mistaken.

You don’t get the nickname “Cinderella” by sitting around and reflecting on how awesome you are.

Of course, these days, Jana is reportedly courting Jonathan Hartono, so she finally has someone to sing her praises in real life – and not on social media where she’ll never see it.

Lena Dunham: I Wish I Had an Abortion!

Lena Dunham may be best known to many people as the woman who often shows her boobs on television.

But the actress is now in major hot water for a different body part: her foot.

Because she just went ahead and stuck it way deep into her mouth.

While hosting the podcast Women of the Hour, the Girls star told the audience about a visit to a Texas Planned Parenthood years ago, at which time a girl asked her to share her experience with abortion.

Dunham, an outspoken liberal who is pro-choice, explains how she "sort of jumped" at the request because she had never had an abortion.

She could go out there and fight for equality and for a woman"s right to choose and support anyone who has been through this traumatic experience…

… but it suddenly hit her:

She couldn"t empathize. Because she had no idea what it was actually, truly like to have an abortion.

Dunham went on to commend those close to her for their “bravery” and “self-knowledge” for having gone through this procedure, saying she realized that needed to put  her own stigma surrounding the issue “in the garbage.”

And then Dunham said:

"Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had."

YIKES, Lena!

You wish you had terminated a fetus?!?

We think we understand what you were getting at here… we"re pretty sure you were just trying to say that you wish you could have an even better perspective on this issue in order to even more strongly advocate for it… but, again: YIKES.

Michael Jackson: Dying Wish Revealed?!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than seven years since Michael Jackson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 50.

In that time his two eldest children have matured into young adults, and his youngest has entered adolescence.

Though he’s best known to most of us as the King of Pop, insiders say that in his final years, Jackson’s top priority was being the best father he could be to Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket.

And it seems that desire was reflected in his dying wish, which shows that the future of Jackon’s children weighed heavily on his mind in his final days.

Sources close to the Jackson family recently revealed that Michael made a very specific final request in the week leading up to his fatal heart attack.

Jackson reportedly asked that his close friend Diana Ross remain a constant presence in the lives of his children.

While Michael made his mother, Katherine Jackson, the kids’ guardian, Ross has apparently served as a sort of mentor and second grandmother.

“Diana admits that Michael’s kids are a ‘constant concern’ for her,” a source close to the family tells Radar.

Ross is reportedly deeply concerned with how the children are coping with the media scrutiny that’s been a constant in their lives from birth, and seems to have only become more intense in the years since their father’s passing.

Sources say Ross is particularly concerned with the well-being of 18-year-old Paris.

Though it’s been over three years since Paris attempted suicide, sources she continues to experience symptoms of her various emotional afflictions.

With more than six decades in the spotlight, Ross is well acquainted with the perils of fame, and insiders say she sees reflections of her younger self in Paris.

“Diana really believes Paris needs to be in long-term therapy because she’s never really come to terms with her feelings about her father’s death,”a source tells Radar.

While Michael’s life was beset by tragedy and ended prematurely, the mega-star would no doubt be happy to know his beloved children are well-cared for by a strong support network.

“A lot of people call [Ross] a diva, but she’s proven to be a good mother to her own five children, and she continues to fight for the well-being of Michael’s kids,” says the insider.

Jenelle Evans: I Wish I Wasn"t Pregnant!

As you’ve likely heard by now, Jenelle Evans is pregnant with her third child.

Bizarrely, Jenelle denied that she was pregnant for several months before eventually admitting that the rumors are true.

Of course, by then she didn’t have a whole lot of say in the matter, as a police report had already confirmed the pregnancy, which might be the most Jenelle Evan-y development of all time.

Anyway, in the weeks since Jenelle confessed that she’s expecting (still no word on why she tried to keep it a secret), she’s been gushing about her forthcoming bundle of joy non-stop.

She’s so excited that she didn’t even go through the usual reality star routine of playing it coy with regard to the kids’ name and gender.

Yes, Jenell is unquestionably psyched about the impending arrival of little Ensley Jolie Eason.

(With a name like that, we hope she’s saving up for pony stable fees and finishing school lessons.)

But earlier this week, she posted a tweet that led some fans to wonder if she was having second thoughts about becoming a mom for the third time.

 

“I wish I wasn’t pregnant at the moment so I was able to go volunteer and help these people in Florida and Haiti,” Jenelle tweeted.

“Really breaks my heart!”

Yes, like so many others, the woman once nicknamed the Carolina Hurricane due to her tempestuous behavior is mourning the toll taken by Hurricane Matthew.

It’s admirable that Jenelle wishes she could help, but hopefully that’s as far as she’ll take it.

Throughout the southeast, several towns are still bailing out after significant flooding.

As a North Carolinian, Jenelle is lucky to have not experienced any damage to her home, and she’s absolutely right that it would be entirely unsafe for her to try and help with the rebuiliding efforts.

Some fans are taking this latest tweet as a sign that Jenelle might finally be growing up and taking the needs and feelings of others into consideration.
