Will Smith, a former defensive end with the New Orleans Saints who helped the team win Super Bowl XLIV in 2009, was shot and killed in New Orleans on Saturday night.
He was 34 years old.
The Ohio State alum reportedly got into a heated argument with Cardell Hayes, the driver of a vehicle who rear-ended him, only for Hayes to then allegedly pull out a handgun and shoot Smith multiple times.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife, Raquel, was shot twice in the leg and transported to the hospital.
Numerous past and present NFL stars have used social media to express their condolences over this tragic death, with Kardashian also chiming in because she got to know Smith back when she dated Reggie Bush.
Bush and Smith were teammates in New Orleans.
“My heart breaks for my sweet friend Rockie. I’m deeply saddened by your loss,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram.
She then addressed the late star directly:
“Will, you were an angel to your family on earth and you will continue to be in the life after. May God bless you! Sending so many prayers to her and her family!!!
“May the Lord surround her and her children with love and protection during this devastating time.”
Hayes has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for his alleged shooting of Smith.
