Mariah Carey Defends NYE Performance In Her Own Words (AUDIO)

Mariah Carey’s bungled NYE performance cannot be better explained by anyone better … than Mariah Carey. Mimi posted an audio clip Sunday describing what went down — and it matches up exactly with TMZ’s reporting. She makes it clear… “they…

Mariah Carey: I Was Foiled on New Year"s Eve!

2016 was an awful, terrible year, full of loss and sadness and disappointment.

And so it only made sense that on the last day of the year, right before the miserable thing finally died, Mariah Carey gave what could have been the worst performance of her career.

Yes, Mariah, the diva songbird of a generation, one of the most talented ladies in the game, absolutely butchered her performance on Dick Clark"s New Year"s Rockin" Eve.

There was clearly a big issue with her earpiece, and with the audio, and with … well, the whole thing was a big mess.

And now, in a lengthy message she recorded and shared on Twitter, she"s speaking out about what went down.

According to Mariah, the problem was that she and her people were "put into the hands of a production team with technical issues who chose to capitalize on circumstances beyond our control."

She says that it"s "not practical for a singer to sing live" in the conditions in Times Square that night, "especially when their ear monitors weren"t working at all."

Alas, Mariah believes that "They foiled me. This it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me."

The poor diva adds that her "feelings are hurt" over the whole ordeal, and that she"s planning on taking some time for herself before she gets onstage again.

Do you feel sorry for Mariah, or did she have it coming?

Check out her full message in the clip below:

Mariah Carey Gets Owned by a Coyote in a Leotard

Mariah Carey just got totally owned.

By a coyote in a leotard.

On the heels of her humiliating New Year"s Eve performance, Carey has heard it from nearly every corner of the Internet.

The trolls are out on force, although it"s hard to blame them when you click on the link above and see the sort of ridiculous "performance" this legendary artist put on last Saturday night.

Due to technical difficulties, she was unable lip sync a handful of her classic tracks, eventually giving up and talking mostly jibberish to the crowd in an attempt to stall and/or distract.

Carey"s team then tried to blame the show"s producers for setting her up to fail.

It"s been a pretty terrible few days for Carey, and it was only made worse this week when the mascot for the San Antonio Spurs used a break in the action to walk out to center court.

He was dressed in a similar outfit as the one Mariah donned in Times Square and he started to "sing" the smash hit "Emotion," only for his microphone to suddenly go out.

This made him very confused and annoyed.

It also made us laugh very hard.

See the Mariah mockery for yourself below and then sound off:

Is this fair or foul? Has Carey suffered enough for her snafu? Should folks just let it go?

Or does the diva deserve all of this embarrassment for how little effort she clearly puts in for her live performances?

Mariah Carey on New Year"s Eve Debacle: What Would Dick Clark Have Done?!?

Mariah Carey is finally taking responsibility for her debacle of a performance on New Year’s Eve.

Kind of. Sort of.

Okay, maybe not responsibility, exactly.

But the singer has opened up extensively about the embarrassing “concert” in Times Square over this past weekend.. and at least she isn’t supporting allegations that she was sabotaged.

By now, you probably are familiar with what transpired on Saturday night/Sunday morning:

As the featured artist on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Carey took to the stage and immediately experienced technical difficulties.

She messed with her earpiece. She couldn’t hear the background music.

She planned to lip sync, but had no way of matching up her mouth to the lyrics.

So she basically gave up, yammering away on stage and saying she would simply turn over the job of singing to the “audience” at one point.

As Jenny McCarthy rightly pointed out, it was a train wreck of epic proportions all around.

Watch snippets for yourself below:

Carey Tweeted “Sh-t happens” shortly after this so-called performance went viral, which likely would have been enough.

The story would have pretty much died if that had been it.

But then members of her team tried to blame the incident on Dick Clark Productions, arguing that Carey was set up to fail by producers.

Why didn’t the program cut to commercial once the technical difficulties became obvious, the singer’s rep argued?

Because it wanted to milk her breakdown for ratings, Mariah’s camp has said.

In response to this assertion, the production company fired back that it had “no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.”

So… yeah. It’s been a pretty giant mess all around.

Even if Mariah’s boobs did look terrific during the Times Square humiliation:

Now, however, Carey has spoken to Entertainment Weekly, walking the fine line between owning up to her lack of preparation and blaming others for what happened.

“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business,” Carey tells EW, adding:

“I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.”

Oooookay.

That seems like quite the random point to make.

Carey is basically throwing shade at producers for not helping rescue her from the situation on stage, without going so far as to accuse them of anything under-handed.

Mariah goes on to say she’ll continue to do live events, but will be “less trusting of anyone outside my team.”

(That said, Entertainment Tonight has learned that the singer is no longer working with her longtime creative director and tour choreographer/dancer, Anthony Burrell.)

What sort of reaction has Carey received on social media and in person?

“My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve,” she added to EW.

Hey, at least she’s admitting that the performance was “horrible.”

But it would have been nice if, just somewhere in this interview, Carey had taken at least partial responsibility for what went down.

Then again… if she had… she wouldn’t be the super diva we’ve all come to know and quasi love for her super diva-ness, would she?

Jenny McCarthy on Mariah Carey: What a Track Wreck!

We can now confirm two things that Jenny McCarthy is against:

1. Vaccinations.

2. Mariah Carey.

The former View co-host, who has helped anchor New Year’s Eve coverage on various programs for seven years, used her SiriusXM show on Tuesday to lay into the legendary singer.

McCarthy called Carey out for what most viewers agree was the single worst New Year’s Eve performance in the history of December 31.

Actually on hand in Times Square for the embarrassing event, McCarthy took listened behind the scenes a bit as she relayed her reaction to Mariah’s nationally-televised fail.

“Mouths are hanging open. Everyone is shocked. We only gave you a shortened version of that. We had to go through another song of her walking around,” McCarthy said on air today.

She added:

“It was so bad, and then for a moment I said, ‘Take a step back, Jenny, and try to find some empathy right now.’ And I did. All of a sudden I felt really bad for her, because it was that bad. It was a complete train wreck.”

Did you catch the performance?

It featured Carey having problems with her audio.

She was on stage, messing around with her ear piece, clearly confused and unsure what to do.

“We’re missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is … I’m gonna let the audience sing. We didn’t have a sound check for this New Year’s baby,” Carey told the crowd.

It was evident that Carey planned to lip-sync, but technical issues got in the way and she was unable to recover; i.e. simply go ahead and actually sing her own songs.

Watch footage from the humiliating “performance” below:

Shortly after this non-concert aired on ABC, Carey took to Twitter and shrugged it off.

“Sh-t happens,” she wrote.

But as the video got passed around the Internet in subsequent days and the embarrassment grew, Carey’s team went into crisis mode.

Sources in Carey’s camp actually told TMZ and Billboard that the artist was “sabotaged” and that “production set her up to fail.”

Why would producers do this? To garner ratings for the network’s New Year’s Eve special.

So the argument goes, that is.

But Dick Clark Productions wasn’t going to just sit around and let its good name be sullied.

The company responded to accusations of wrongdoing with the following statement:

As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists.

To suggest that DCP, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd…

We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.

McCarthy, meanwhile, said she stopped sympathizing with Carey once her team accused Dick Clark Productions of somehow setting her up to fail.

“I do understand our egos, of course, want to blame everyone but itself for mistakes, but I literally had a visceral reaction to her saying that Dick Clark Productions did this on purpose and for ratings,” McCarthy said, continuing:

“If Dick Clark were alive today, I guarantee he would be on air right now fighting back. He’s not, so I’m going to.

“The truth of the matter is Mariah didn’t do a sound check. … She did whatever you would call, like, a dance move rehearsal holding her gold microphone, and she stood off to the side of the stage while she had a stand-in do a sound check.”

Husband Donnie Wahlberg was in the studio with McCarthy and agreed.

Having often performed live with New Kids on the Block, he chimed in with this take:

“The buck stops with the artist. If you’re gonna be a boss or you’re gonna be a diva, then you know, again, it’s your name, your face and your legacy on the line.

“So you leave something to someone else, you have no one to blame but yourself. The music track, missing a vocal, that’s on her. No rehearsal, that’s on her.”

Mariah Carey on New Year"s Eve Debacle: S--t Happens (and Producers Sabotaged Me)!

Mariah Carey is shaking off her failed New Year’s Eve performance, while her team is insinuating that she was set up to fail by producers.

By now, you’ve likely seen or at least heard about the music icon’s disastrous night in Times Square on Saturday night in NYC:

Carey failed to complete her planned performances for Ryan Seacrest’s annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special, baffling viewers nationwide.

Her reaction, in her own words:

S–t happens, people!

“Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017,” she added in a brief message to her Twitter fans.

Severe audio issues 86’d the performance, in which she was supposed to sing “Emotion,” “We Belong Together” and “Auld Lang Syne.”

Throughout the live gig, Carey told the crowd she couldn’t hear through her earpiece, telling them she was still “trying to be a good sport.”

“We didn’t have a [sound]check for this song, so we’ll just say it went to number one,” she said, adding that the track was missing “some of the vocals.”

“It is what it is.”

Carey ended her time on stage, a fitting conclusion to the year that was, by saying, “That was … amazing” and “it just don’t get any better.”

A rep for ABC had no comment when asked what the deal was, while a publicist for Dick Clark Productions was not immediately available.

Likely getting too hammered or too busy reading the Twitter comments, or both, as these were the national pastimes on Saturday night.

Singer Josh Groban notably tweeted, “Any time one of the greatest voices of my generation lip syncs an angel loses its wings.”

He didn’t name names, but it was obvious who he was referring to, and after getting some less-than favorable responses, he apologized.

Groban nixed the tweet and wrote:

“Deleted my tweets about a certain performance because it was made in humor but taken way more meanly than intended. Not out to diss artist.”

Jennifer Lopez also addressed the Carey disaster on social media, by liking a comment on Power 106 KMEL Big Von’s Instagram page.

Big Von shared a link to the performance and wrote, “Ever seen an accident you couldn’t take your eyes away from? That was her tonight!”

Fans noticed that one of the Likes on that comment is from none other than Lopez’s official account. Subtle shade, but shade nonetheless.

Sources in Carey’s camp, meanwhile, told TMZ and Billboard that believe she was “sabotaged” and that “production set her up to fail.”

Anyone buying that?

Dick Clark Productions sure as heck isn’t, and released the following statement about Mariah’s performance in response to those stories:

As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists.

To suggest that DCP, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.

The production company seemingly acknowledged that the issues faced by the 46-year-old singer were not her fault … or the company’s:

In very rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television.

However, an initial investigation has indicated that DCP had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.

We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.

What do you make of all this, THGers? Obviously, we may never know what happened that night in Times Square, but we can tell you this:

It was the most 2016 thing ever.

Mariah Carey: Worst New Year"s Eve Performance Ever?

If all publicity is good publicity, then ratings for the next episode of Mariah"s World will be off the proverbial charts.

That"s because the legendary singer is getting absolutely roasted on Twitter today, following a humiliating performance in Times Square on New Year"s Eve.

The issues kicked off nearly as soon as the Carey took to the stage singing "Auld Lang Syne," when it became immediately apparent that her backing track didn"t match up with what she was singing.

OOPS!

Donning bodysuit and surrounded by dancers who were holding feathers, Mariah subsequently launched into "Emotion" – but appeared to be unable to hear the actual track.

After belting a couple of words, the artist told her dancers to walk her down the steps to the front of the stage.

"Well, Happy New Year," she said to the audience, as she seemed to reach for her earpiece.

"We can"t hear but I"ll just get through "Emotion.""

A moment later, though, she basically gave up, informing those in attendance:

"All right, we didn"t have a check for this song, so we"ll just say it went to number one."

Honestly, things just got worse from there.

Overall, it was a pretty fitting way to wrap up 2016.

In response to the clear hiccups, Carey later Tweeted: "Shit happens."

Which is true. But this was epic.

Mariah Carey: I"ve Never Heard of Ariana Grande or Demi Lovato!

Mariah Carey does not keep up to speed with who the biggest singers are on the planet.

Maybe she just does not want to admit that there is newer and better talent than her out there, or something, but her constantly saying she does not know people is getting a bit old.

The Mariah’s World star hit up Watch What Happens Live last night and host, Andy Cohen had much to discuss with the singing sensation.

He wanted to know whether Mariah’s pop culture knowledge had improved, or if it was the same as it was back in the 1980s.

Basically, he wanted to know which celebrities she recognized, and which she did not.

“I’m forgetful. How am I to know?” Carey asked at the beginning of the game.

Cutting to the chase, Andy was quick to question whether Mariah now knows Jennifer Lopez. If you recall, Mariah famously claimed she had no idea who the heck Jenny from the block was.

Mariah looked uncomfortable and rolled her eyes at the very thought of Lopez, while someone in the audience shouted out “No.”

Andy then revealed that Ariana Grande was like Mariah in her early years, prompting Mariah to claim she does not follow pop music.

“I don’t know when early in the career was… Honestly I’m not familiar, I listen to hip-hop more than I listen to pop music.”

Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry all got free passes, with Mariah throwing loads of praise Gaga’s way.

“She came to my show, she was very sweet. She came to the Christmas show at the Beacon Theatre and we had a nice conversation… We’ve met…I enjoyed the moment.”

That solid praise was met with much more shade when Demi Lovato was brought up.

“I don’t know her either, so I wouldn’t say anything to her,” she said.

“She should come up, introduce herself to me, say ‘Here’s my opinion, what do you think about it?’ That’s how you handle s**t.”

It sure seemed like Mariah was on a mission to roast everybody in sight.

Addressing her relationship with Bryan Tanaka, Mariah revealed that she wanted fans to watch the show to find out what went down that brought them together.

“’Reveal’ is such an interesting word,” Carey replied.

“I want people to watch the show because honestly, I don’t want to go into it but when something is real, and it’s a beautiful thing, you don’t want to trash it up. It is what it is.”

What do you think about all of this?

Did Mariah go to far with her shade?

Mariah Carey: Forcing Producers to Edit James Packer Out of Mariah"s World?

Mariah Carey is getting very tired of the old, so she has decided to only care about the new.

In this instance, that old is her ex-boyfriend, James Packer.

As you probably already know unless you’ve been living under a rock, Mariah is in a new relationship with Bryan Tanaka.

Viewers have been wondering about the lack of James Packer in the E! reality series.

When the show was filmed, Mariah was still very much in a relationship with the billionaire.

One of the odd things about the new series is the emphasis that has been put on Bryan.

It would make anyone think Mariah was being a little too flirty while in a relationship.

However, we’re now hearing that James’ scenes have been mostly cut out, with scenes of Bryan being inserted into the show

“They want the focus of the show to be Mariah finding love, not getting dumped,” says the insider.

Okay then.

It would be pretty silly to have us root for Mariah and James. It would not feel current and would probably make viewers tune out of the show altogether.

I mean, what’s the point of rooting for a couple we already know is doomed?

Thankfully, the producers seemed to agree with Mariah and have basically ousted James from the whole thing.

The interesting thing about all of this is that the report even claims Mariah and Bryan got busy filming Thanksgiving scenes that found Mariah getting hot and heavy with Bryan over Thanksgiving.

We all love a good love story, but it sounds like things are going to get a little bit too convoluted… even for reality TV.

Viewers like romances that don’t seem forced, but something about Mariah’s latest romance seems like it’s trying too far to be a thing.

Time will tell, but you can watch Mariah’s World online over at TV Fanatic to see how much James has been edited out of the show.

Maybe it can become a drinking game, or something.

Hey, at least it would make the show more interesting.

What do you think of the latest drama?

Sound off below!
