Anthony Bourdain: How Did His Mother Learn of His Suicide?
Gladys Bourdain called in to The Today Show this week.
The mother of Anthony Bourdain opened up in this back-and-forth about how she learned of her son"s tragic suicide, while describing the celebrity chef and author as "feisty and very talented," as well as someone who was a "lover of people of all kinds."
As previously detailed across the Internet, Bourdain committed suicide last Friday by hanging.
His body was discovered in the bathroom of his French hotel room by close friend Eric Ripert.
Since this awful news went public, numerous celebrities, loved ones and colleagues have released statement of sympathy, shock and sorrow in regard to Bourdain.
But there"s understandably something extra troubling and depressing when hearing from Bourdain"s mother.
Gladys says that she learned of her son"s death from his younger brother, Christopher.
She told Today she had last heard from Bourdain on Mother"s Day.
Were there any signs at all that anything was wrong? Any signs she could see of anything like this coming?
"Not a one," she replied.
Bourdain, who truly made it big on television in 2005 with the series "No Reservations," was open over the years about his drug addiction and his past debt issues.
The Kitchen Confidential author and "Parts Unknown" host had spoken candidly about his past struggles in various interviews.
"He didn"t disguise anything or take on any act of persona,"" Gladys said on Today, explaining how his on-screen personality reflected his off-screen demeanor:
"He was who he was, and it was out there for everyone to see."
Following Bourdain"s passing, girlfriend Asia Argento released a statement in which she referred to him as her "love," saying in full:
Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did.
His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated.
My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.

Wendy Williams to Britney Spears: You"re an Awful Mother!
Has Wendy Williams finally done it, folks?
Has she finally sunk to the lowest point to which a human being can sink?
This is a bold statement, we know.
It seems hard to fathom how Williams could sink any lower than the time she slammed the #MeToo movement.
Or the time she called Kylie Jenner’s baby ugly.
Or the time she called Oprah Winfrey fat.
But Williams sat down on her dumb purple chair on Thursday morning and hurled the most personal shade possible at Britney Spears in response to ex-husband Kevin Federline asking for more child support.
As detailed yesterday, Federline is already receiving $ 20,000 a month from Britney because he often cares for the former couple’s two sons.
But he doesn’t think this is enough.
Federline now wants $ 60,000 per month (yes, PER MONTH!) in child support because he says he’s less famous now than he was when the stars split and, therefore, in less demand as a DJ.
Britney is fighting this request because… what the heck, K. Fed? You can’t reasonably support two children on $ 244,000 per year? Which is designated solely for their well-being?!?)
(Yes, Federline has six kids total. But Spears, obviously, is only legally responsible for the two that came out of her womb.)
Most folks rolled their eyes upon reading Federline’s demand.
But Wendy Williams is not most people.
“Britney’s got deal after deal on the table and reportedly she’s making 33 million dollars a year and I’m not counting her money and I don’t want to count her money,” Williams said to open her critical statement today, addressing the singer and adding:
“Britney, not for nothing, but what kind of woman is not taking care of her own two kids as a full time mother, just asking?”
Ummm… many kinds of mothers who have gone through a divorce?
We can’t claim to know the details of Britney and Kevin’s custody agreement, and it’s no secret that Britney has battled a few personal demons in the past.
Her dad actually remains in charge of her money as her official conservator.
This arrangement has apparently been working well and, most importantly here, is no one’s business at all.
EXCEPT…
“Why is your father still in charge of all your money?” Williams asked in her segment. “Kevin’s in charge of your boys, your father is in charge of your money, what are you in charge of Britney, at 36 years old?”
Her mental health?
So she can be a strong mother to those boys, perhaps?
“I get it, she’s got her career and the whole bit, but you’re the one who laid down and had two kids, now take care of your kids,” Wendy actually added, in extreme and ridiculous judgment.
(Spears “laid down and had two kids?!?” What is there to even say about someone who talks about other people this way?)
“How about you fight for custody from Kevin?… Very disgusted,” continued Williams.
For the record, it’s not clear whether Federline really has full custody of Sean Preston, 12, and Jayden James, 11.
But even if he does…WHO CARES?!?
Plenty of dads have custody of their children and Federline is being very well compensated already in this deal.
Concluded Williams, sounding like a cruel moron as always:
“I like Britney Spears and I believe people can get better with the proper guidance and doctors and stuff, but that was Kevin Federline who stayed with you when you were attacking cars with umbrellas and shaving your head and going off the rails of life.
“I’m just telling Britney, you want to deny this man, just remember this is the same man who can write the book and tell the stories…
“He’s held your secrets, he’s the sole custody caretaker of your 11 and 12-year old.”
Yes. That’s it, Brit.
You should pay Federline in exchange for his silence, all these years later.
Wendy Williams continues to be the worst.

Audrey Roloff: I"ve Learned FIVE Things as a Mother
Audrey Roloff is still pretty new at this whole motherhood thing.
She gave birth to daughter Ember Jean in September of 2017 and has since written plenty about the amazing experience on Instagram.
Roloff has gotten into occasional trouble for some of the stuff she has said about having a child, but for the most part, she has simply gushed over her daughter and her family.
Now, via an Instagram post she posted in May of 2018, Audrey has shared with followers five lessons she has learned from being a parent.
Some may be obvious, others less so.
But perhaps you can relate to one or two of these tidbits?
1. Lesson #1:
This is how Amber opened her informative and sort of fascinating post: “To love the body God gave me and to embrace its strength and beauty with gratefulness” is something she has learned.
2. How So?
“Watching my body change and witnessing its ability to deliver a child taught me to appreciate my physical body in all of its God-designed complexities on a whole new level,” Audrey details.
3. A Lesson of Importance and Priorities
Concludes Audrey in this case: “Motherhood has taught me focus less on body-image and more on being an image-bearer. I am also now capable of getting myself ready in less than 5 mintes, which is an added bonus.”
4. Lesson #2:
“GRACE,” writes Audrey, expounding a bit as follows: “Motherhood has taught me to give myself loads of grace for all the things I see other mothers doing that make me feel less-than.”
5. Forget Social Media, She Adds
Yes, this is very ironic for a social media post to say, but Roloff continues on this point: “My standard for motherhood is rooted and established in the the Word [of] God not the world of Instagram.”
6. Let’s Turn to the Bible, Shall We?
Audrey often uses this as source material. In this instance, she wrotes: “Motherhood sure has a way of revealing my failures and flaws, but I’m refusing to let these discoveries steal my confidence in the grace of God who’s power is made perfect in my weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9).”

Valerie Fairman: Late 16 and Pregnant Star"s Mother Gives Update on Daughter
In December of 2016, Valerie Fairman, one of the star’s of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, passed away.
She was only 23 years old.
Her death was shocking for a number of reasons, one, of course, being her age.
Another was that she had an episode in the second season of 16 and Pregnant, the same season that introduced us to Jenelle Evans, Chelsea Houska, Kailyn Lowry, and Leah Messer.
Being in a group of ladies we’ve come to know so well, it was just sort of strange to hear about her passing.
One big reason the whole thing was so tragic was that Valerie left behind a daughter, Nevaeh, who was seven years old when she lost her mother.
Really, the whole entire thing was just one big mess of sadness.
The news of her death broke thanks to some tweets from her friends and family, and later we learned that she’d accidentally overdosed at a friend’s house.
She went to the bathroom there but didn’t come out. Her friend went to check on her, and when there was no response, the friend broke down the door to find Valerie unresponsive.
She never regained consciousness.
There were never any official reports about her specific cause of death, but many believe that she died after doing heroin laced with fentanyl.
This belief began in part because her ex-boyfriend, David Pryce, made a plea on Twitter after hearing the news of her death about shady drug dealers.
“I will always miss you Valerie,” he wrote, “and I want to tell anyone who is selling sh-t to people to stop. We have lost too many loved ones to what you are doing.”
In another statement, he said that she’d been dealing with “a lifelong problem” with opioid addiction, which is especially tragic, considering her life was so short.
Valerie passed away at the end of 2016, and that’s when we heard all of this — so how are things with little Nevaeh now, over a year later?
Her grandmother, Janice Fairman — Valerie’s mother — gave an interview to Radar Online to update 16 and Pregnant fans on how the girl is doing.
“Nevaeh is very well,” she says. “I don’t think it’s been hard for her. I don’t know if it will be in the coming years.”
“She’s doing well in school. I took her to a grief counselor, which she didn’t need.”
That may sound a little cold, but Janice points out that she had full custody of Nevaeh even before Valerie died, and that Valerie only visited once or twice a month.
She explains that “Because her mom wasn’t living here at the time, it made it easier on her. She’s still in the house she’s grown up in.”
She does say that she makes a point to tell Nevaeh about her mother often, and that “she has a necklace with some of her ashes.”
“Ashes are in her play room too. She also has flowers from the service.”
Thankfully, Janice reveals that Nevaeh’s father, Matt Pryce, “sees her every Saturday.”
“We try to keep Matt involved,” she says, even though “he has his own problems,” and she “doesn’t always” want to visit with him.”
Still, they “try and rearrange things so he doesn’t miss out on birthday parties and other activities.”
Finally, Janice asks that 16 and Pregnant fans remember Valerie as a “loving and caring person.”
“I know she was into drugs and wasn’t so nice,” she acknowledges, “but in her heart she really was.”
Here’s hoping that Nevaeh really is doing as well as Janice says, and that she continues to cope with this tragic loss as easily as possible.

Wendy Williams on Kylie Jenner: She"s Not Even a MOTHER!
So hey, you know that thing that Wendy Williams has been doing for the past few months where she keeps talking about Kylie Jenner and her baby?
It’s pretty weird, right?
On one hand, it is Wendy’s job to discuss all the latest in celebrity gossip, so it’s not like she could just avoid the topic.
But on the other hand … she really has been a little extra about the whole thing.
Back in January, just before Kylie gave birth to Stormi, she did a whole segment about how Kylie is only 20 but she’s already had enough plastic surgery to make her look 35.
Which is pure speculation, of course — Kylie’s only ever admitted to lip injections.
Wendy brought that up in the first place to get across her message that Kylie’s baby would look like her old self, and a lot of people took that to mean that she believed the baby wouldn’t be cute.
So basically, she trash talked a baby that hadn’t even been born.
Classic Wendy Williams, really.
Then, while Kylie was still silent leading up to Stormi’s birth, Wendy speculated heavily that Travis Scott had left her and his responsibilities as a father.
We know now that’s not what happened, and since they became parents, Travis has definitely been around.
We saw how involved he was during the pregnancy in that adorable video Kylie shared, but that still wasn’t good enough for Wendy.
Even after seeing that seriously precious footage, she speculated that Travis would be gone by summer, and that he may even have a side chick right now.
Gossip is fun, that’s true, but come on, girl.
This week, Wendy’s on a new thing about Kylie — gone are the days of mocking her baby or theorizing on all the ways her boyfriend has left or will leave her!
Nope, this tie around she’s actually kind of defending her.
Kind of.
She began her Hot Topics segment by talking about Kylie, and to lead into the subject, she said that “this thing about mom-shaming at some point has got to stop.”
Immediately after saying that, she said that Kylie is “too young to be a mom,” so we guess the point at which mom-shaming has got to stop is not this point.
Her point though about Kylie and mom-shaming has to do with the littlest Jenner’s trip to Coachella last weekend, and how lots of people thought she shouldn’t have gone because of Stormi.
Wendy actually thinks that going to the festival was no big deal, and that mothers should take time for themselves.
But you know she couldn’t have just been nice about it.
She said that because Kylie captioned one of her Coachella selfies “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom,” the whole thing became a bigger deal than it really was.
She seemed to miss the Mean Girls reference and instead hit back with “you’re a child!”
“You’re not even in the club,” she continued to great applause. “If I was 35 years old and I had a couple of kids and a relationship going on and I walked into the mom club and there’s a 20-year-old child there with a baby …”
In that scenario that barely makes sense, she said that she’d “resign from this mom club,” that she wants “like-minded moms around me.”
… Then don’t hang around the people you’re not interested in being around? Why is this even a conversation point?
Kylie is definitely very young, but she’s an adult, and the fact is that she is a mother. Whether or not Wendy thinks she should be is irrelevant at this point.
Like we said though, Wendy’s point is ultimately positive — she said that there’s “nothing wrong with moms having fun,” and that since Stormi is only two months old, she’s sleeping most of the time anyway.
“She’s probably a good mom,” she admitted. “She may be a bad mom, I have no idea … the baby entered your life, you didn’t enter the baby’s life.”
In conclusion, she said that she’s “Team Moms Go Out and Have Fun,” and that’s why she felt the need to defend Kylie here.
How … sweet? Kind? Not awful?
It’s hard to say — Wendy Williams is so rarely any of those things.

Mother Apologizes After Her Young Son Wears Lewd McDonald"s Parody Shirt to School
The video that you are about to watch might be the best, and most adorably innocent, thing that you"ll see all day.
An elementary school student wore what he thought at the time to be a McDonald"s shirt. Honestly, he was probably just sleepy and grabbed a shirt that fit.
Unfortunately, the intensely lewd shirt was a parody … one that went right over his head.
Texas mom Shelly McCullar was stunned after her son wore a shirt designed to parody the McDonald"s logo in a deeply inappropriate manner.
Not only did she not realize that he wore it to school, but he didn"t realize that it was anything but a McDonald"s shirt.
Unfortunately, though the shirt does read "I"m lovin" it," which is McDonald"s irritating slogan …
(Nothing against McDonald"s, but they"ve never had a good slogan during my lifetime)
… It does not actually show the golden arches.
Instead, it shows the silhouette of a woman"s spread legs. One might infer that the implied woman is wearing nothing save a pair of heels.
In other words, the shirt advertises sex with a woman.
McCullar offers an apology — and an explanation.
"Once again, my sincere apologies to the teachers and staff at Travis Elementary. I promise from now on to monitor what my kids are wearing!"
Obviously, some parents go overboard when it comes to rigidly controlling what their children (who are people!) wear. But, in this case, this is not a shirt that should be worn by an elementary school student.
"I had no idea Anthony wore this to school!!"
Of course. Plenty of parents are busy. And if it"s cold, you might never see their undershirt.
"Just to clarify, I would never let my kid wear something like this."
Few parents would.
She explains how this came to pass.
"A friend had given me some hand me down clothes for Anthony."
Clearly, this boy is not the only one who didn"t notice that the shirt was inappropriate.
"I haven’t had the chance to completely go through them. I will tonight though!!"
We"re sure that she did.
"Through my embarrassment, I did [laugh my ass off]!!"
She finished that with a couple of tags:
"#ithoughtitwaslikemcdonslds #notthegoldenarches"
Our favorite part about this story might be that … no one seemed to notice.
The boy didn"t notice, because even if he thinks about girls in that context, he"s just not old enough to immediately connect his shirt"s logo to sex.
But it seems that no teacher noticed, either.
We live in a world where girls are sent home because their sleeves are too short, flaunting their sinful shoulders which will surely leave boys too enthralled to concentrate in class.
And yet … not one teacher commented on this boy"s shirt.
There are two possible explanations.
The first is heuristics. It"s how the human mind processes sensory information, valuing efficiency over accuracy. His shirt has the colors and general shape of a McDonald"s logo, so it may register automatically as that to a teacher who has twenty-plus other students.
As the child says, "they thought it was like McDonald’s too."
That said … it"s also possible that a teacher noticed but was simply too embarrassed to call attention to it.
Teachers and administrators will absolutely do that. They"ll see something that violates school policy but they"ll make a judgment call to pretend that they didn"t see it.
This child is clearly so innocent that he had no idea what he was wearing. A teacher didn"t want to be the one to explain sex to a kid without his parent"s permission.
Also, calling attention to it would mean that other students would be involved. There"s no good solution there … except to pretend that you never noticed.

Selana Gomez"s Mother: What Does She Really Think of Justin Bieber?
According to a slew of recent rumors, there’s one woman in the world who does not like Justin Bieber.
But she’s a pretty important woman.
And her opinion may have a lot do with whether or not Bieber ends up with the presumptive love of his life.
As you’ve likely read about by now and grew very concerned over, Bieber and Selena Gomez are on a break.
Insiders swear this is not a break up and that the stars will eventually find their way back to each other, but this may not actually be up to Justin or Selena.
It may be up to the latter’s mother.
Indeed, multiple outlets have claimed of late that Mandy Teefy does not approve of her daughter’s rekindled romance with Bieber.
It’s not exactly hard to see why, either, considering all the ways in which Justin has broken Selena’s heart over the years.
It would be almost weird if Mandy was totally cool with her child and Bieber bumping uglies again, wouldn’t it?
“Justin’s family loves Selena, but Selena’s family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don’t trust Justin,” Us Weekly reported about three weeks ago, adding at the time:
“Selena and Justin decided to take a break mainly because of Selena’s mom and her disapproval of Justin.”
Is this really accurate?
And, if so, how does Teefy feel about Bieber in the wake of Selena and Justin trying to appease her via various conversations and promises?
E! News caught up to Mandy on Wednesday evening at the Alliance for Children’s Rights 26th Annual Dinner in Beverly Hills, where she at first told the website/network why this organization means a lot to her.
“I really love what they do,” Mandy said, adding:
“I was adopted and to have that support and everybody coming together to support getting people out of the foster system, I think is really important.”
Okay, great, fine.
It’s definitely a great cause.
But let’s get to what’s truly important here, shall we?
What is going on with Jelena, pictured above from one of their first attempts at a relationship many years ago?
“You would know before I did,” Teefy said in response. “We don’t talk about it.”
Doesn’t sound like an endorsement, does it?
Doesn’t sound as if Many and Selena have had the kind of in-depth chats about her love life that we had thought, either.
We really can’t say what this means for the future of Bieber and Gomez as a couple, but it doesn’t sound as if they have Mandy’s mother’s blessing, that’s for sure.
Will they simply not worry about it? Will the tension be too much for Selena to bear?
Will Bieber make some grand gesture to win Teefy over?

Gary Shirley to Amber Portwood: Sorry for Admitting You"re a Bad Mother!
Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley never really had the greatest relationship, but they do share a daughter, Leah, so they pretty much have to get along with each other for the rest of their lives.
Think about that for a second, being forced to deal with Amber for all the rest of your days …
It"s no wonder Gary snapped, right?
In last night"s episode of Teen Mom OG, he had some pretty harsh things to say about her — harsh, but true.
Amber didn"t take it well, so no surprise there, but what was surprising was that Gary took the time to apologize to her on Twitter for everything he said during the episode.
Because again, what he said was true.
Here, let"s just review everything, and you can see if you think Gary needed to apologize, OK?
1. A Bad Match
OK, so Amber and Gary were always terrible together, from the very first moment we ever saw either of them on Amber’s 16 and Pregnant episode. They just don’t get along well. Even in their happiest moments, there was always some issue — remember when he tried to propose and she got mad because he didn’t use the exact words she wanted to hear?
2. SMH
These two broke up, got back together, got engaged, then broke up again more times than we can even count, and it took Amber going to prison to really end things for good between them.
3. Hey, Kristina!
While Amber was incarcerated, Gary met Kristina, who he went on to marry and have another child with. Kristina became the mother figure that little Leah never really had. Everyone loves Kristina.
4. Shame, Shame
Gary did lead Amber on a bit during this time though — he didn’t make it clear to her when he was in prison that their relationship was over, and he strung her along when she got out. But through it all, he was always a good father to Leah, and that’s what we’re talking about here.
5. Choices
Meanwhile, Amber chose to stay in prison, away from her young daughter, instead of going to rehab, and when she was back home, she chose to get involved with creepy Matt Baier instead of rebuilding her relationship with her kid.
6. Tsk Tsk
She mentioned trying to get custody of Leah back a few times, but then never really talked about it again. And in the time that she’s been out of prison, she hasn’t seemed to make seeing her at all that much of a priority.

Mother Who Gave Marijuana to Her Baby Arrested, Charged
There are a lot of bad parents in this world who make terrible, terrible choices for their children.
Most of these parents don"t record their terrible behavior and broadcast it to the entire internet. But … some do.
Which is how authorities came to see this video, below, featuring the outrageous sight of a 1-year-old baby smoking marijuana.
Brianna Ashanti Lofton is a twenty year old Raleigh woman, and she was arrested.
Her initial charges were for two counts of felony child abuse, contributing to delinquency, and possession of marijuana.
However, it was later determined that her initial felony charges were in error.
Upon her Lofton"s first court appearance, she was instead charged with a lesser felony.
It"s still a big deal.
And what she allegedly did is still unconscionable.
Police are crediting the public with directing them to this video.
The alleged incidents of this baby, who is now 16 months old, smoking marijuana (though it was initially believed to be a cigarette by some viewers) took place around December or January.
Shocked and outraged viewers who saw the video made it go viral — and many of them reached out to police.
That, authorities say, is how they were able to investigate this horrifying crime.
Lofton is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on $ 100,000 bond. Even if she is released, she is ordered to stay away from her baby.
The baby, who of course has not been named, is in the custody of Wake County Child Protective Services.
There was a time, of course, when parents considered it "normal" to expose their children and even babies to drugs.
We"ve all heard old stories about parents rubbing liquor on a teething baby"s gums, when there are of course much safer numbing agents.
For generations, bad parents have dosed their children with alcohol in order to get them to sleep — a despicable act that is damaging as well as dependency-forming.
Even just a few decades ago, doctors were advising parents to give their young children medications like Benadryl, which can cause drowsiness, for no other reason than to "help" the child to sleep at night.
While marijuana itself is not particularly dangerous, exposing a child or baby"s lungs to smoke can be so dangerous and damaging.
Beyond that, while marijuana is considered safe for adults, a child"s mind and body are still developing, and with very rare exceptions such as epileptic children or pediatric cancer patients, kids just do not need any marijuana in their systems.
And, again, we"re talking about a one-year-old baby.
On Wednesday, the Raleigh Police Department posted their gratitude to the public on Facebook:
"Big thanks to everyone who posted information about the smoking mother and baby. Thanks to your willingness to get involved, the child is now safe and the mother is in police custody."
If convicted, Lofton could face up to 17 years in prison.
This may strike some as odd, as abusive parents often face much shorter sentences for unforgivable acts of violence.
We should note, however, that most parents who willfully endanger and harm their children don"t … film it and then share the video of it on social media.

Queen Latifah Pens Emotional Tribute to Late Mother
Queen Latifah is sadly in mourning today.
The long-time artist and actress lost her mother, Rita Owens, on Wednesday, following a very long struggle with a heart condition.
In memory of the person to whom she was closest, Queen Latifah has submitted an emotional and heartfelt statement to People Magazine.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news my mother, Rita Owens passed away today,” wrote Latifah, adding:
“Anyone that has ever met her knows what a bright light she was on this earth.
“She was gentle, but strong, sweet, but sassy, worldy but pragmatic, a woman of great faith and certainly the love of my life.”
A former Academy Award nominee, Latifah is the executive producer of The Rap Game and many other television programs.
But she’ll always be her mother’s daughter, first and foremost.
“She had struggled with a heart condition for many years and her battle is now over,” Latifah continued.
“I am heartbroken but know she is at peace. Thank you for your kindness, support and respect for our privacy at this time.
“Much Love, Dana Owens (aka Queen Latifah), forever Rita Owens’ daughter.”
Late Wednesday night, the star shared a video of a photograph of her mother with the caption, “143,” which translates to “I love you.”
She also talked about her bond with her mom back in September, while promoting the film Girls Trip in another interview with People.
“I’ve just learned how much you can love a person and just how strong my mother is,” she said at the time. “I’ve come to respect her in ways you can’t even imagine.”
Owens lived with her condition for years due to medication, a defibrillator in her chest and a special diet.
The latter was low in salt and fat, yet heavy on vegetables.
Latifah also said of her mother:
“I watched her come through so many things, ups and downs, hospitalizations – I mean really being in the ICU for that matter – you know, going through tough times and watching her come back and bounce back and still maintain this sense of humor, and love and drive and will.”
She added:
“I just love her so much more, I respect her so much more. She really just gives me hope for life and the world.”
Back in 2015, Latifah said she often stayed at her mother’s home in New Jersey and concluded that her mom’s health helped her put everything in proper perspective:
“Whatever some tabloid printed means nothing, money doesn’t mean anything, work is great – I work so that I can take care of my family – but the family is the most important thing.”
