Jill & Jessa Counting On Season 2 Episode 5 Recap: DJ Ben Drops the Beat

DJ Ben Seewald! Drop the beat, G!

You laugh (or groan), but on Jill & Jessa Counting On Season 2 Episode 5, Ben and Jessa went to St. Louis to meet Christian rapper Flame …

Yes, Christian hip-hop is a thing, and Ben is into it, though you may have to watch Jill and Jessa Counting On online to fully believe it.

Even his in-laws had no clue here.

“I wouldn’t know how to describe hip-hop music,” Jana Duggar said flat-out, while Joy-Anna guessed it was “kind of like rock music.”

One might call their lives … insular.

“It’s more like talking-singing,” Anna Duggar added, helpfully, for the audience. “Hip-hop is a beat, and rappers rap on hip-hop beats.”

In any case, it was off to St. Louis for Jessa, Ben and Spurgeon Seewald, who traveled to meet Flame, along with his producer and wife.

Said the Christian hip hop figure:

“I met Ben through an email. He was like, ‘Man, I really love your take. I love your perspective. I love the way you’re articulating these things.”

“We should link up and do a couple of interviews and talk about some of these topics.’ Then we did the interviews, and it felt natural and organic.”

As for DJ Ben’s flow in the studio?

The jury is still out on that, but when Spurgeon began cooing during the recording session, Flame had the idea to sample his vocals.

Spurgeon was a natural, unlike his dad, although Flame was able to mix, edit and produce the hit “Believe by Spurge, featuring Ben.”

Auto-tune was invented for a reason.

On a more serious note, Ben later asked Flame for advice on how he could get involved and integrate himself into urban communities.

Flame told Seewald, who is interested in missionary work, to reach out, connect with local leaders and churches and just “be genuine.”

Just don’t lead with his hip-hop effort.

Back home in Arkansas, John-David led the charge to complete the tree house, while the family prepared for their trip to Central America.

There, the Duggars would embark on a mission trip of their own, and also get to see Jill and Derick Dillard, along with their son, Israel.

Izzy also turned one this week.

“It’s been about four months since Jill left for Central America, and a lot has happened, and little Izzy has changed so much,” Anna said.

Oh, indeed. Depending on who you believe, or how deeply you want to examine “baby bump” photos, Jill Duggar is pregnant again
