As you’ve no doubt heard by now, a terrorist attack killed at least 84 people in Nice, France last night.
Rihanna, who was in the area to perform a concert scheduled for this evening, has announced that she will be postpone the event indefinitely out of respect for those who were killed.
The singer posted a photo of the French flag on Instagram last night, along with the following caption:
“Due to the tragic events in #Nice, my concert scheduled for tomorrow July 15 at Allianz Stadium will not be going ahead as planned. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
Though she was near Nice at the time of the attack, Rihanna was reportedly far from the attack and was never in harm’s way.
Local officials have also cancelled a jazz festival that was scheduled to take place this weekend.
Music legend George Clinton, who was scheduled to perform, offered his “prayers and support” to the people of Nice in a heartfelt tweet.
While countless celebrities were moved by the tragedy, Rihanna was closer to it than any other and is said to be in shock over the senseless act of violence.
For the second time in less than one year, the people of France have been devastated by an act of terror, this one one of the deadliest attacks in recent memory.
Details are still coming in, but early reports indicate the Bastille Day assault was carried out by a 31-year-old French-Tunisian man who drove a semi truck into a crowd celebrating the holiday.
“France has been struck once again in her flesh, on the 14th of July, on the day of our national celebration,” French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Friday.
