Lena Dunham Reveals Battle With Drug Addiction
Lena Dunham has been a divisive figure for the majority of her career, but this week, the Girls creator revealed that she shares something in common with tens of millions of Americans from all walks of life and all regions of the country.
In an interview with actor Dax Shepard, Dunham revealed that she has struggled with prescription pill addiction for several years.
“I was having crazy anxiety and having to show up for things that I didn’t feel equipped to show up for … but I know I need to do it, and when I take a Klonopin, I can do it,” Dunham said on the latest episode of Shepard’s podcast.
“I didn’t have any trouble getting a doctor to tell me, ‘No, you’ve got serious anxiety issues, you should be taking this. This is how you should be existing,’” Dunham continued.
“It stopped being, ‘I take one when I fly,’ and it started being like, ‘I take one when I’m awake.’”
Dunham attributes her acute anxiety to trauma stemming from sexual assault and health issues:
“I was diagnosed with pretty serious PTSD,” Lena said.
“I have a few sexual traumas in my past and then I had all these surgeries and then I had my hysterectomy after a period of really extreme pain … It stopped feeling like I had panic attacks and it started feeling like I was a living panic attack.”
These days, it often seems that public figures only open up about substance abuse issues when they’re forced to following some sort of PR disaster, so we commend Lena for opening up of her own volition.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Dunham will be penning a screenplay for a J.J. Abrams-Steven Spielberg film about a family of Syrian refugees.
On social media, many were critical of the decision to hire Dunham for such a project, arguing that there’s no way someone in her position can relate to the plight of Syrians driven from their homeland by war.
But perhaps Abrams, Spielberg, and company knew what the rest of us did not — that Dunham is a survivor of a different variety, and with sufficient compassion, she may be able to channel her painful past in a creatively productive way.
Only time will tell, of course.
But for now, we applaud Dunham for being candid about such a topic that affects so many, yet is so rarely addressed.

Mel B to Enter Rehab for Sex, Alcohol Addiction
Mel B may typically be in the news these days for judging acts on America’s Got Talent, but the former Spice Girl is now making headlines for admitting to something personal.
The singer has got a very big problem.
She actually has two very big problems, according to an interview Brown gave to The Sun over the weekend.
Citing an “incredibly difficult” past six months, Brown says she is seeking professional treatment for alcohol addiction and sex addiction.
“I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” Brown told the British publication, adding:
“I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on.”
Added the 43-year old:
“Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol – it is underneath all that.
“I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do, but I am dealing with it.”
Back in April of 2017, things for very heated and very ugly between Brown and ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.
The artist and NBC personality accused Belafonte at the time of abusing her physically and emotionally, while forcing her to have threesomes … and then blackmailing her by threatening to release secret tapes he had made of these encounters.
Brown even shared photos (such as the one below) of bruises she said she received a result of being punched and shoved by her husband.
Mel allegedly told friends at the time that she was afraid to go public with these allegations for awhile because she feared Belafonte would have her murdered.
According to a friend who spoke to The Sun, Brown responded to this trauma by becoming “sex-crazed” and even slept with three men in one day at one point.
She was looking for affection and comfort wherever she could find it.
But Brown now acknowledges she has serious personal demons and issues and will check into a rehab facility in England to deal with them.
“I am still struggling, but if I can shine a light on the issue of pain, PTSD and the things men and women do to mask it, I will,” Brown tells the newspaper, adding:
“I am speaking about this because this is a huge issue for so many people.”
In November of, 2017 the exes reached a private settlement and, in exchange for doing so, Brown withdrew her domestic violence restraining order against Belafonte.
In addition to her statement, Mel B tweeted “Knowledge is power” on Sunday, along with a link to a website detailing PTSD.
She also retweeted a post from her mother, Andrea Brown, mentioning Mel’s decision to enter rehab.
This is what it says:
I’m so proud of my daughter. She has the courage to face her demons head on and deal with them.
I know what hell she has been through and I know what trauma she has suffered and still suffers.
Do not judge because so many people have PTSD and try and numb the pain any way they can.
I am proud of her honesty and I am proud my daughter speaks out on a subject that affects so many people.

Demi Lovato Opens Up About "Addiction Hell" In New Interview
Earlier this week, fans were shocked to learn that Demi Lovato had relapsed after six years of sobriety.
To her credit, over the years, Lovato has not attempted to conceal her struggles with addiction, instead allowing her story to serve as a cautionary tale for young fans.
And she’s been just as open about her most recent battle with the bottle.
Demi’s new song, “Sober,” is a surprisingly confessional ballad detailing her lapse back into addiction.
Sadly, Lovato’s relapse was not a one-time event but has instead proven to be a source of ongoing difficulty.
Sources say Demi is still drinking, and has been for more than two months.
But it seems she feels that it’s important for her fans to see her at her lowest depths, as Radar Online is reporting today that Lovato is planning to grant a candid TV interview to Hoda Kotb of Today.
Demi was reportedly reluctant about stepping back into the spotlight in her current state.
She had a change of heart, one insider claims, because of three important factors:
1. Her loyalty to her fan base and her desire to be completely straightforward with the millions who have stood by her through thick and thin.
2. Her belief that honesty is the first step to sobriety.
3. Her faith in longtime friend Kotb.
“They have a history together,” the source says of Demi’s relationship with Hoda.
“Demi is ready to share what led to the relapse and what she is doing now to stay sober,” the insider adds.
“She has always been very open and honest with her fans about her struggles, so it’s only natural that she would do this.”
There’s no word yet on when the interview will take place or when it will air, but the insider says Demi is hoping to sit down with Hoda as soon as possible.
In “Sober,” Demi croons the heartbreaking line:
“I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”
She lays her soul bare in the song, but the lyrics offer no details about the how, why, and when of Demi’s relapse.
Now, it seems she finally fill in those blanks for the sake of her very worried fans.

Kanye West Confesses to Opioid Addiction
If you follow him on Twitter, you probably know that Kanye West has recently been engaging in some behavior that’s eccentric even by his standards.
Returning to the social media platform following a lengthy hiatus, the rapper has been tweeting out the sort of impressionistic insprational slogans that might be irritating coming from any other celeb, but are strangely endearing as a result of Kanye’s sincerity.
Nothing surprising there, of course.
What’s caught fans off guard is West’s commitment to his own position on the political spectrum.
We knew prior to the president’s inauguration that Kanye supported Trump, but many thought ‘Ye was simply drawn to a similar-sized ego, and comments he’s made over the course of the past year led fans to believe he’d joined his wife and in-laws with more of a center-left alignment.
But West’s recent tweets have created the impression that he’s more engaged than ever before with conservative thinkers like Candace Owens and Scott Adams.
Shifting political beliefs generally aren’t considered cause for concern, but West’s unexpected views have prompted widespread speculation about his mental state.
And one high-profile media figure has offered insight into what he feels is the primary cause of the rapper’s recent unexpected statements, as well as the erratic behavior West engaged in last year.
Hot 97 host Ebro Darden claims he recently received a phone call from Kanye in which the rapper discussed his recent tweets and accused his friends and fans of being fickle in their support, saying:
“He went on to talk about, ‘Nobody really showed love to me when I was addicted to opioids and in the hospital,"”
While we already knew that Kanye was hospitalized in 2017, the previous explanation was that he had suffered a mental breakdown as a result of professional and family pressures.
Darden says he called West out on his claims that he didn’t receive any support from his high-profile friends during his rehabilitation process:
“You’re a liar. I said, ‘I know people who personally reached out to [Pusha T], Scooter Braun and anybody close to you to come to your aid,"” Darden recalls telling the rapper.
“People love you, bro. And people wanna love you.”
Darden says West also made no apologies for the political views that seem to have upset so many of his followers in the past week.
“Kanye West, quote, ‘I love Donald Trump,"” Darden told his co-hosts on his popular radio show yesterday.
Kanye has yet to speak out about his alleged struggles with addiction, but you can bet he won’t remain silent for long.
Say what you will about the man, he’s never been one to shy away from controversy or conflict.

Ryan Edwards: Caught LYING About His Arrest & Addiction?
Yesterday, we reported that Teen Mom OG star Ryan Edwards had been arrested for a probation violation.
The arrest came less than 24 hours after the world learned that Ryan"s wife, Mackenzie Standifer, is pregnant with her and Ryan"s first child together.
The news of Ryan"s legal trouble was shocking for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that fans had no idea that Edwards was on probation or that he"d been taken into custody back in April.
It"s enough to make you wonder what else Ryan and Mackenzie are concealing – and it turns out the answer to that question is "quite a lot."

Frances Bean Cobain Opens Up About Battle With Addiction
It’s been 24 years since Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life at the height of his fame.
While the exact causes of Cobain’s self-destructive mental state remain a mystery, the singer’s long struggle with heroin addiction is believed to have played a role in his downward spiral.
And the battle that claimed her father’s life was no doubt on Frances Bean Cobain’s mind yesterday, as she revealed that she’s celebrating two years of sobriety.
Frances shared the news with her millions of Instagram followers on Tuesday with a moving post about her new lease on life:
“I thought I would start this post by using a pure moment in Oahu amongst nature, with my love. This moment is a representation of who I am on February 13th, 2018,” the 25-year-old wrote.
“It feels significant here, now because it’s my 2nd sober birthday. It’s an interesting and kaleidoscopic decision to share my feelings about something so intimate in a public forum.”
Cobain went on to say that she made a conscioud decision to keep her struggle to herself until now:
“The fact that I’m sober isn’t really public knowledge, decidedly and deliberately. But I think it’s more important to put aside my fear about being judged or misunderstood or typecast as one specific thing.”
Frances says she’s opening up about her struggle now, in hopes that others might find inspiration in her ability to get clean:
“I want to have the capacity to recognize & observe that my journey might be informative, even helpful to other people who are going through something similar or different,” she writes.
The daughter of Courtney Love – who’s own struggles with addiction have been well-documented – adds that she’s realized using substances to escape her problems will always be tempting, but she says she’s found a better path:
“Self destruction and toxic consumption and deliverance from pain is a lot easier to adhere to. Undeniably, for myself and those around me becoming present is the best decision I have ever made.
“How we treat our bodies directly correlates to how we treat our souls. It’s all interconnected. It has to be.”
Frances ends her celebratory post with a message of hope for those who are stuggling:
“As cheesy and cornball as it sounds life does get better, if you want it to,” she writes.
“I’ll never claim I know something other people don’t. I only know what works for me and seeking to escape my life no longer works for me.”
After an ugly divorce from Isaiah Silva, Cobain is dating musician Matthew Cook these days.
She assures fans that she’s never been happier.
We wish her all the best in all her endeavors.

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Talk Addiction: Are They OK?!
If you"re familiar with Catelynn and Tyler from Teen Mom OG, then you probably know that they"ve had plenty of experience with addiction.
They"ve never gone through it themselves — though Catelynn has hinted at being dependent on marijuana in the past, and they were arrested in their teen years for possessing weed.
But unfortunately, they spent much of their childhoods watching their parents go down that dark, scary road.
Catelynn"s mother, April, has struggled with alcoholism, and Tyler"s father, Butch, once admitted on camera that he loved cocaine more than he loved his own son.
Thankfully, April is sober these days, and she"s been able to play a much more positive role in Catelynn"s life.
But Butch just hasn"t been able to maintain his own sobriety for any real length of time.
As we saw in earlier seasons of the show, he was released from prison just before Catelynn and Tyler got married, and he was out for just over a year.
Then, in late 2016, he relapsed, violated his probation, and was sent back.
He was released after a few months, but, as always, it"s hard for him to stay out of trouble.
Tyler really delves deep into that struggle in this heart-wrenching sneak peek for next week"s episode of Teen Mom OG.
As the clip begins, the couple explains to a producer that they"re still working on fixing up their new house, and that Butch is building a fence for them.
"Apparently he destroyed my childhood," Tyler jokes. "I need a fence. That"s all I ask of you now."
He"s joking, at least a little bit, but there"s some sad truth behind it — we"ll never forget his story of how he was so overwhelmed with everything that he attempted to hang himself when he was just 12 years old.
"Speaking of which," he adds now, "I need to talk to him about going to rehab."
Catelynn points out that he"d said before that he wanted to wait to have the rehab talk with Butch until he was less angry with him, and he says that he"s realized that he"s actually always going to be angry with him.
She agrees with him — she says that with her own mother, she feels angry a lot too, and she feels that it"s that way with many children of addicts.
She even says that children of addicts have a right to feel angry with their parents, which is fair.
They they have this whole sweet talk about how they created a safe space together, so on and so forth, and that"s adorable and precious, it really is.
But does Butch ever go to rehab?!
Watch the video below to hear Cate and Tyler"s real talk on addiction:

Artie Lange: Comic Reportedly Near Death Following Years of Addiction
If you’re a fan of Artie Lange, then you probably know the beloved comedian, radio personality, and podcast host isn’t exactly Joe Rogan when it comes to clean living.
Lange has struggled with addiction and other health issues for most of his adult life, and he’s been refreshingly candid about the toll that a decades-long cycle of rehab and relapses has taken on his body.
Now, following a string of canceled gigs and some troubling tweets, fans are worried that Lange’s years of recklessness may soon cost him his life.
The 50-year-old canceled a scheduled appearance on his webseries The Artie & Anthony Show this week, and his explanation has sparked serious concern:
“The AA show is the best job! I really have the flu. I got a flu shot! I got the flu. Antibiotics are working &I plan on being in tomm. Anthony & I are good on air,” Lange tweeted
“Please stick w us. I will make this work! U fans must feel I’m like a loser cousin u tolerate. Thx for that.”
Several followers pointed out that antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections, not viruses like the flu.
Still, Lange simply may have been mistaken about what sort of treatment he was receiving.
The comic initially seemed optimistic about his condition, but later tweets led fans to the conclusion that his illness is more serious than he let on at first:
“Doctor seemed worried. Took blood. I promise if I die it will be on the AA show. Howard used to beg me to agree to this! I refused. This is special. I’m willing to put it in a contract. If u think I’m joking u did not see the look on my Drs face,” Lange tweeted yesterday.
He elaborated in a way that did little to assuage his fans’ greatest fears:
“Also with regards to my appearance. Fans. Followers. (whatever the f-ck ppl call themselves today) I’ve crossed some sort of disgusting line. I will most likely never look good again. The best I can do is try not to make anyone vomit! My body has been ravished by awful living. Thx.”
Lange later re-tweeted a follower who suggested that he may have meant that his appearance had been “ravaged.”
In an interview with Radar Online, Artie’s mother, Judy Lange, confirmed that his situation is dire:
“Artie has to take care of a few things. He’s got diabetes, so that doesn’t help. He’s okay, as much as he can be. But he is fighting addiction — trying to get through that, and hopefully he will,” Judy told the outlet.
“He told me he went to the doctors, but I haven’ t received a report yet from him as to what’s going on. So I don’t know,” she added.
Lange first checked into rehab back in 1997, when he was a cast member on the sketch comedy series Mad TV.
In the decades that followed, he sobered up several times, but slipped back into addiction just as often.
In 2010, Lange attempted suicide by drinking bleach and stabbing himself in the abdomen several times.
It was not the first time he had attempted to take his own life.
Lange survived the incident after being found unconscious by his mother, and he returned to his job on The Howard Stern Show after being released from the hospital.
Lange has enjoyed a career renaissance recently thanks to his roles on The AA Show and the Judd Apatow HBO series Crashing.
We wish Artie and his loved ones all the best.

Adam Lind: Refusing Rehab For Meth Addiction?
On the long list of all the deplorable boyfriends, husbands, and baby daddies who have graced the Teen Mom franchise with their presence, Adam Lind stands alone.
Lind isn’t just a deadbeat dad or an addict like so many of the other walking red flags that MTV regrettably made famous.
No, he’s those things and much, much more …
Lind tested positive for meth shortly before a scheduled visit with his daughter back in June.
Amphetamines generally don’t remain in the human body for very long, which means Lind was likely indulging just minutes before he was supposed to spend time with youngest daughter Paislee.
Yes, Lind smoked meth in preparation for hanging out with a 4-year-old.
Like we said, dude is next-level messed-up, and it seems he’s not open to receiving the kind of help he clearly needs.
According to Radar Online, Lind’s friends and family recently staged an intervention, but the father of two reportedly stormed off when his loved ones implored him to enter rehab.
“He won’t go,” said one insider.
“It’s bad. He’s so far off the deep end that his friends can’t even be around him anymore,” the source added.
There’s no word on whether or not Lind’s baby mamas, Chelsea Houska and Taylor Halbur, were in attendance at the intervention.
But given how strained relations Lind and his exes have been, we’re guessing both moms couldn’t make it.
Halbur has instigated legal action to strip Lind of all custody rights, including the right to supervised visits with Paislee.
Houska hasn’t gone quite that far, but she stated in a recent interview that she has taken steps to ensure her daughter’s safety.
“I am glad I took precautions and he isn’t allowed to drive with her,” Houska said.
“Before, there was no proof. You know you are making the right decision, but you question it.”
Lind has yet to comment on the allegations of drug use, but that’s probably for the best.
We don’t need another unhinged social media rant from reality TV’s worst baby daddy.
Watch Teen Mom 2 online to remind yourself how atrocious Adam really is.

Ben Affleck: Back In Rehab For Alcohol Addiction (Report)
Earlier this week, multiple sources claimed that Ben Affleck was “spiraling out of control” in a way that had friends and family concerned for his life.
Affleck checked into rehab back in March, and in a public statement released just after he completed treatment, the actor revealed that he hoped maintaining his sobriety would enable him to be a more supportive and attentive father to his three children.
Sadly, it looks as though Affleck lost sight of that goal somewhere along the way, as he resumed drinking in recent months,
Ben is dating Lindsay Shookus these days, and the couple spent a good deal of the summer traveling, dining, and, unfortunately, drinking.
Affleck’s been spotted drinking with Shookus on multiple occasions, most recently at last month’s Emmy Awards.
No one in Ben’s inner circle is blaming Lindsay for his relapse, but the belief seems to be that the contentment Affleck has found in his new relationship emboldened him to the point that he mistakenly believed he could return to casual drinking.
Not surprisingly, it seems it didn’t take long for Ben to fall back into his old habits.
Thankfully, it seems that Ben has heeded the advice of his concerned loved ones and returned to addiction treatment.
Unfortunately, some still believe that the Oscar winner isn’t taking his problem with alcohol seriously enough.
According to Us Weekly, Affleck was spotted “arriving at an outpatient treatment center in Los Angeles” recently.
“Ben looked so happy,” an onlooker tells the magazine.
“He was in such a good mood and looked refreshed.”
Outpatient treatment can be effective in many cases, but generally, in cases of long-term abuse with multiple relapses, experts recommend at least four weeks of inpatient care.
Ben’s friends are said to be pleased that he’s seeking treatment, but certain insiders are reportedly still imploring him to check into a facility for at least a few weeks.
There have been suggestions that Affleck is simply taking a half-step in order to placate the concerned parties, but obviously, he’s the only one who can know for sure if that’s the case.
Whatever the case, we’re glad to hear Ben is at least spending some time in the care of addiction specialists, and we hope he continues to seek help.
