Sterling K. Brown Played Off Stage at Emmys, Finishes Acceptance Speech in Press Room

This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2017 Emmys on Sunday night, a great honor.

The actor – who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie in 2016 for The People vs. O.J. Simpson – had a lot to say.

Too much to say, if you ask producers …

Brown, upon receiving the award, paid tribute to his fellow nominees during his acceptance speech, saying he was a fan of all of them:

“Before anything like this happened for your boy, I was a fan first, last and always a fan. So to my fellow nominees, I’m a fan. I love y’all.”

The 41-year-old was humbled by the list of people who won this same honor – some of the most iconic actors and TV characters ever.

“This joint right here, like Walter White held this joint here. Dick Whitman held this joint. I may have lost some of y’all but you know, Google it.”

“And 19 years ago Detective Frank Pembleton held this joint, as impeccably played by Andre Braugher,” he said of the Homicide star.

“I want to thank my cast,” he went on, pivoting back to the present, “Milo [Ventimiglia], Mandy [Moore], Justin [Hartley], Chrissy [Metz].”

“You are the best white TV family that a brother has ever had. Better than Mr. Drummond, better than the white folks that raised Webster.”

Unfortunately he wasn’t finished by the time the music came on and his microphone was eventually turned down. Double ouch.

This was met with boos by the audience, and justifiably so, but afterwards, in the press room, Brown got to finish his speech.

The first question he received there was from a reporter who asked if he wanted to, and Brown thankfully obliged (see above):

“I wanted to thank our writers. A show doesn’t get seven acting nominations without some impeccable, beautiful, thoughtful writing.”

“You guys are our life’s blood, so I want to thank you so much. To our producers and directors, in particular, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra.”

“And the crazy cool Ken Olin. I thank you for your guidance and friendship. And I wanted to thank Dan Fogelman.”

“He is the Hebrew hammer with which our house was built. He makes me laugh and cry in equal parts and keeps me coming back for more.”

“And in his own little small special way. He’s not trying to make America great again, he’s trying to make it the best that it’s ever been.”

“I love him for taking me on this journey. And to my wife, I can’t believe they cut me off before I got to thank my wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe.”

“You’re everything. You make my life worth living. You gave me two of the most beautiful things that God has ever put on this planet.”

“My sons Andrew Jason Sterling Brown and Amaré Michael Ryan Christian Brown. Your daddy loves you with the strength of a thousand suns.”

“I’ll see you Monday after work.”

The actor faced stiff competition in the category as he was up against both fan favorites and screen legends, which wasn’t lost on him.

Brown’s costar Milo Ventimiglia also earned a nod, while Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) and Anthony Hopkins (Westworld) were nominated.

The Americans’ Matthew Rhys, Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk and Ray Donovan‘s Liev Schreiber rounded out the impressive category.

Quite a win!

Teen Mom 2 Season 6 Episode 11 Recap: You"re Getting Played!

Teen Mom 2 Season 6 Episode 11 took viewers behind the scenes of Jenelle facing felony charges, Leah ending her marriage, and Jo going missing.

You know how it is. Standard week for MTV’s fab four!

You knew Teen Mom 2 Season 6 Episode 11 was gonna get nuts when Jenelle Evans revealed she was hooking up with Nathan Griffith again.

But … her (ex?) fiance was also seeing some other girl.

Confronting him at the gym, she snarled: “You’re going to sleep with me and cuddle with me last night, having your boner up against my back!”

“You have no filter,” Nathan replied. New here, bruh?

As the public war of words continued, he went for the low blow: “You’re trailer trash. You’re not special. Why would I have anything to do with you?”

Damn, that’s cold. But oh man, would s–t get heated.

When Nathan brought his new girl over to pick up Kaiser, more words (and quite possibly blows) were exchanged, and Evans was arrested. Again.

“You don’t have to have a man to be complete,” said her lawyer, echoing anyone who yells at the iPad when they watch Teen Mom 2 online.

“That’s what I need,” Jenelle agreed. “To heal myself.”

“Finally when I’m about to heal, he pops up in my life.”

“You’re getting played, you know that right?” Amy Lawrence, sage attorney to the reality star, asked before Evans racked up her latest mug shot …

In the life of Chelsea Houska, things are not nearly as out of control. Her biggest crisis is whether to let Aubree call her new boyfriend Cole “dad.”

Actually, Cole’s baby talk voice is a crisis as far as we’re concerned, but the Housk seems to be into him, and he’s 100 times better than Adam.

So we’ll let it slide. Speaking of Adam Lind … SIGH.

Aubree was not able to spend Father’s Day with her real dad, who decided to head out of town and leave her with his parents. Dad of the Year!

“I wish my dad was going to act like [Cole],” Aubree said later, and no words could cut deeper than that, whether you’re a fan of this show or not.

Down, but not out, in Delaware, Kailyn Lowry scored a job with her school’s broadcast news channel, but news on the home front was less smooth.

Jo Rivera got the time of Isaac’s soccer game wrong, missing the whole thing; her current husband and Isaac’s coach, Javi Marroquin, was sad.

Also, Jo missed Isaac’s preschool graduation. WTF.

“Jo came down here saying he wanted to be closer to Isaac, and wanted to be part of Isaac’s daily life,” Kailyn lamented to the cameras.

“He forgot to bring Isaac to Isaac’s game, so he missed his whole soccer game, and now he missed his son’s preschool graduation.”

“Take his ass to court,” Javi declared. Dun dun dun.

Leah Messer, meanwhile, was in rehab on this week’s episode, working on herself and not making excuses (at least they weren’t filmed).

Back home, Corey Simms and his wife, Miranda, had some big news for the twins: They’re having one of their own later this year! OMG!

As for the two kids he currently has, Corey asked Leah’s other ex, Jeremy Calvert, to meet up the day before they finalized their divorce.

“I feel like my old self again. I was miserable,” Jeremy said. “She went from being normal to a complete 180 … prescription pill problem.”

“This drug issue that everybody knows she has is swept under the carpet,” Corey said in agreement. “We’re the fathers of her children.”

“If it was us, we would never see our children again.”

While Corey Simms and Jeremy Calvert shared plenty of jabs at Leah’s expense, the latter also admitted what was fueling his divorce and stress.

“My biggest fear is she’s going to keep getting away with s–t until one of these nights, me and you are gonna get this f–ked up phone call.”

As for Leah, she told her family, “I stayed because I didn’t want the embarrassment of another divorce. But you know what, I’m letting it go.”

Her mother, Dawn Spears said she could hear an improvement in her voice, and one can only hope this is a positive trend that continues.

At least until she’s caught having sex in Corey’s truck.
