Kelly Clarkson Makes Emotional Plea for Gun Control

Kelly Clarkson seemed like an unusual choice at first to host the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.

She"s a singer, after all, not a comedian or even an especially notable performer.

Only a few minutes into her monologue, however, it quickly became clear on Sunday night that Clarkson was the right woman for the job.

Not because Clarkson told jokes and not even because she sang an impressive medley of hits, even though she later did exactly this.

But because the original American Idol is a Texas native and was therefore the ideal celebrity to stand up and talk about last week"s tragic school shooting in Santa Fe.

"I’m a Texas girl and my home state has had so much heartbreak over this past year.

"Once again, y’all, we’re grieving more kids that have died for absolutely no reason at all,” Clarkson said as the MGM Grand venue was lit black at the start of this awards ceremony.

On Friday, 10 people were shot and killed at a high school in Texas, while 13 others were wounded.

“Tonight they wanted me to say that obviously, we want to pray for all the victims and families," Clarkson continued.

"They also wanted me to do a moment of silence and I’m so sick of moments of silence. It’s not working, obviously.”

Instead, therefore, Clarkson chose to be loud when it comes to this topic, not quiet.

"Why don’t we stop moments of silence and do a moment of action? Why don’t we do a moment of change? Change what’s happening, because it’s horrible.

"Mommas and daddies should be able to send their kids to school, to church, to movie theaters, to clubs. You should be able to live your life without that fear."

Clarkson is a mother of four young kids, two to whom she gave birth and two she took under her care upon marrying Brandon Blackstock.

She went on:

"We are failing our children, we’re failing our communities. We’re failing their families. I have four children.

"I can’t imagine getting that phone call or knock on the door. So instead of a moment of silence, I want to respect them and honor them with tonight y’all in your community, where you live, your friends, everybody.

"Let’s have a moment of action, let’s have a moment of change."

Clarkson"s speech will no doube engender controversy.

Plenty of viewers out there were probably standing and applauding, while others were probably wishing a music awards ceremony would stick to handing out music awards.

Prior to moving on and joking about how she isn"t qualified to host anything, Clarkson concluded:

"I hate talking about it but you have to talk about it or no change is going to happen."

Amen, right?

Kris Jenner Gets Emotional: Talking About Khloe and Tristan Makes Me Cry!

Though some wild rumors are floating around, the claim that Kris Jenner is making Tristan Thompson pay for his cheating has yet to be confirmed.

In public, at least, her words are all about Khloe and how extraordinary she is being on her journey as a new mother.

In the video below, Kris even admits that she gets choked up thinking about it.

When Ellen delicately broaches the subject of Tristan Thompson"s cheating scandal

"Pretty unexpected, but Khloe is amazing."

Though Tristan was caught cheating with multiple women and it all came out the day before Khloe went into labor, Kris deflects to Khloe"s strength.

"I’m so proud of that kid. I get choked up because she’s such a good mom."

Judge for yourself whether or not Kris is actually getting choked up in the video below.

"Honestly, I get so emotional."

We"re not going to question that (because I admire Kris but also she terrifies me).

Kris jenner on ellen

Kris talks about her very recent visit to Khloe in Cleveland.

"It was snowing, and she was nestled in in the nursery [with] the baby and she’s just concentrating on that."

Remember last week, when there was still cold weather and people were complaining? Well, now everywhere feels like an oven.

Kris describes Khloe"s maternal manner.

"Just being a mom, her baby."

Khloe, of course, is not the only one of Kris" daughters to have welcomed a baby girl this year.

"That’s what her sisters are doing as well."

Kris talks about Khloe"s current mood.

"She’s so excited about motherhood."

Kris does, however, reveal that Khloe has encountered a major problem.

She says that Khloe is "trying to get the nursing thing down, which is a little tricky."

Nursing is not as easy as a lot of people make it look. Sometimes, the baby has trouble latching or the mother has trouble lactating. There"s a lot involved.

"She’s figuring it out just one day at a time."

But Kris has nothing but good things to say for Khloe"s mothering.

"And she’s just the best mom already."

Naturally, Kris is over the moon about her youngest grandchild.

"And that baby is so cute, little True."

Kris jenner and ellen

Ellen asked if Kris and the others are conspiring to avenge Khloe, but Kris says:

"I think we do what we always do and that’s spring into action with love."

Possible translation: Kris certainly isn"t going to talk about her elaborate, Bond-villain level plot to exact justice in public.

"We all hopped on a plane and flew to Cleveland, ‘cause that’s what we know to do."

Some people scatter when there"s trouble. The Kardashian clan always rallies.

"I’m there to support my kids no matter what happens."

That"s why she"s the momager.

"I just do the best I can just like anybody else would for their family."

She points out that her family, in addition to having more resources than most, also just has more people.

"There’s a lot of us."

She then makes a major understatement:

"We all get together and we do things together and we’re a force to be reckoned with."

Kris says that she and her family arrived just in time.

"She gave birth within hours after us arriving, it was crazy."

They knew in advance, so she says that they would have been on their way even if it hadn"t been for Tristan"s scandal.

"It was very exciting, though, at the same time. It was all simultaneously happening."

Khloe was already in labor while they were on the plane.

"We knew she was going to have the baby within the week. I brought the doctor. I had the doctor on the plane and nurse practitioner."

Yes, they dragged a doctor across the country. That"s what it"s like when you"re rich. Also, can you imagine saying no to Kris Jenner? I can"t.

"We were calling from the plane, like, ‘What’s going on?’ They were like, ‘She just got her epidural!’ And we were like, ‘What!’"

But they did make it in time to welcome little True into the world. Adorable.

Here is the video, where Kris says all of this and much more:

Lala Kent Pens Emotional Tribute to Late Father

Lala Kent has taken a break from insulting Jennifer Lawrence and from saying she’s possessed by the ghost of Tupac to get serious for a moment.

Serious and also very sad.

The Vanderpump Rules star and veteran Bravo personality updated her social media fans on Monday with the news that her father has passed away.

“Rest in paradise, my sweet dad. The world seems to be spinning much slower,” the 28-year-old wrote alongside a video shared to Instagram that shows her goofing off with her dad using a rainbow animal filter.

The video also depicts her mom and brother, Easton Burningham.

It’s not clear at the moment just how Kent’s father died.

But Lala was very candid in her caption, revealing to the world just how difficult this loss is to process.

“I’ve never felt so lost. I’ve never felt so sad. My world has crumbled,” she concluded.

Kent, who is somewhat of a controversial figure due to some of her shenanigans on Vanderpump Rules and some of the comments she makes away from the camera, elicited nothing but sympathy for her post.

This has everything to do with the tragic subject matter, of course, but also with how open Kent has been in the past about her bond with her dad.

“I grew up in a very open home,” she explained to Heavy.com in 2015, adding at the time:

“We talked about literally everything – still do, which sometimes my dad is like, ‘OK, I don’t need to know EVERYTHING!’

“My family is extremely close. I don’t have family in Utah except for immediate family so it is kind of like ‘we all we got!"”

Lala also went into detail in this interview about the relationship between her parents and how it has shaped her own views and opinions on love.

“I take marriage seriously,” she told the website.

And this is why:

“My parents have been together for 35 years, through thick and thin. I haven’t ever been married, but I still hold that title sacred.

“Their marriage isn’t something I have any input on. I just hope everything works out and they stick together through all the ups and downs. I love them together.”

That’s so very sweet of a daughter to say, isn’t it?

Those who watch Vanderpump Rules online or who follow Lala’s life closely are aware that she’s dating Randall Emmett.

The romance seems pretty serious, too.

“I see marriage with him,” Lala told Life & Style a little while back.

“I see kids with him. We are absolutely in no rush. He spoils me beyond belief with materialistic things, but it’s beyond that. He takes care of my heart and soul.”

We’re so glad to hear it.

She likely needs him more now than ever before.

We send our thoughts and prayers to Kent and her family.

Carrie Underwood Makes (Very!) Emotional Return to Stage

Carrie Underwood did more than just move fans to tears on Sunday night.

The beloved solo artist moved herself to tears as well.

Donning tear-shaped glitter makeup below her eyes, the former American Idol champion delivered an emotional performance her new single “Cry Pretty” at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.

She received a standing ovation at the end of the rendition because it was the first time she took to a stage since a horrific fall back in November.

As Underwood admitted in a subsequent social media post at the time, this fall resulted in over 40 stitches to her face.

The superstar even confessed late last year that she was frightened to show her face again in public.

"When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different," Underwood wrote candidly, adding last week that her face is "healing well" and:

"I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while."

We were very glad to hear this.

And then even more glad to see Underwood back in amazing action at the ACM Awards.

Moments after earning her ovation and fighting back years, the American Idol alum and Keith Urban returned to the stage to accept the award for vocal event of the year for their duet “The Fighter.”

“Thank you for having me,” Underwood told her fellow artist through tears. “I’m still shaking right now. Thank you.”

Underwood donned a sparkly silver-and-black frock and didn’t miss a single beat as she belted out her beautiful power ballad last night.

The lyrics of the track are all about vulnerability and overcoming adversity and they allude to her traumatic injury.

“The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can’t hold them back,” Underwood explained in a letter to fans about the single after she released a recorded version of “Cry Pretty” earlier this week.

She added:

“It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life.

"It’s emotional. It’s real. And it ROCKS!”

YOU rock, Carrie.

Alyson Stoner Pens Emotional Essay About Her Sexuality, Moves Readers to Tears

Alyson Stoner, a former Disney Channel and movie star, has penned a very personal and extremely powerful essay for Teen Vogue.

Titled “How I Embraced My Sexual Identity,” the piece chronicles Stoner’s journey to bisexuality, although we should note that Stoner never used this term.

In the essay, the 24-year old never puts any sort of label or definition on this path or on her conclusion, simply writing that she realizes she’s now attracted to men and women.

The revelation of her preferences started when Stoner found herself “mesmerized and intimidated” upon attending a dance workshop and meeting her female instructor.

“After I dizzied myself from doing knee spins, she walked toward me to correct my form,” Stoner writes for Teen Vogue, adding:

“My heart raced wildly and my body grew hot. Was I nervous to fail in front of an expert? Was I breathing heavily from being out of shape?

“Her smile was the most electrifying thing I’d ever seen.”

Following this class, Stoner texted her mom, to whom she is very close. This is what the text read at the time:

“I met a woman today, I’m not sure who she is or what I’m feeling, but I think she’s going to be in my life for a very long time.”

Stoner has appeared in movies such as Step Up and Cheaper by the Dozen, along with Disney shows like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

As actress-turned-singer got to know the dance instructor better, she struggled with her feelings that weren’t “quite sisterly or platonic.”

She was confused.

“I realized I had never fantasized about a guy this way, nor really ever felt comfortable dating guys,” she explains, elaborating as follows:

“Come to think of it, I stared at women’s bodies more than anything. But wasn’t that just societal conditioning or the unattainable beauty standards that fuel comparison and objectification?

“I refused to entertain other possibilities.”

Still, despite not being sure what was going on, Stoner and this other woman began spending a great deal of time together.

One evening, the pair made dinner and watched Orange is the New Black together and…

“We vented and supported each other. Then cuddled. Then kissed and kissed some more.”

This is when Stoner realized:

“OK, we were in a relationship. I fell in love with a woman.”

It’s unclear at what age this happened, but Stoner admits to attending therapy for years in order to figure herself out.

‘In its purest sense, I felt awakened, more compassionate and like my truest self,” she writes.

“She strengthened and inspired me, creating a space for me to discover myself without judgment. We were an example of true love.”

in camp rock

Stoner had “misconceptions” about the LGBT community, she says, adding that she wondered how this personal revelation would affect her job.

‘Some people in the industry warned me that I’d ruin my career, miss out on possible jobs, and potentially put my life in danger if I ever came out.

‘My dream and all I’d worked tirelessly for since the age of 6 was suddenly at risk by my being . . . true to myself.”

She prayed on it. She battled internally.

But, in the end, she could no longer deny how she felt and what she believes.

“I, Alyson, am attracted to men, women, and people who identify in other ways,” she concludes.

“I can love people of every gender identity and expression. It is the soul that captivates me.

“It is the love we can build and the goodness we can contribute to the world by supporting each other’s best journeys.”

So well said all around.

We salute you, Alyson Stoner.

Queen Latifah Pens Emotional Tribute to Late Mother

Queen Latifah is sadly in mourning today.

The long-time artist and actress lost her mother, Rita Owens, on Wednesday, following a very long struggle with a heart condition.

In memory of the person to whom she was closest, Queen Latifah has submitted an emotional and heartfelt statement to People Magazine.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news my mother, Rita Owens passed away today,” wrote Latifah, adding:

“Anyone that has ever met her knows what a bright light she was on this earth.

“She was gentle, but strong, sweet, but sassy, worldy but pragmatic, a woman of great faith and certainly the love of my life.”

A former Academy Award nominee, Latifah is the executive producer of The Rap Game and many other television programs.

But she’ll always be her mother’s daughter, first and foremost.

“She had struggled with a heart condition for many years and her battle is now over,” Latifah continued.

“I am heartbroken but know she is at peace. Thank you for your kindness, support and respect for our privacy at this time.

“Much Love, Dana Owens (aka Queen Latif‎ah), forever Rita Owens’ daughter.”

Late Wednesday night, the star shared a video of a photograph of her mother with the caption, “143,” which translates to “I love you.”

She also talked about her bond with her mom back in September, while promoting the film Girls Trip in another interview with People.

“I’ve just learned how much you can love a person and just how strong my mother is,” she said at the time. “I’ve come to respect her in ways you can’t even imagine.”

Owens lived with her condition for years due to medication, a defibrillator in her chest and a special diet.

The latter was low in salt and fat, yet heavy on vegetables.

Latifah also said of her mother:

“I watched her come through so many things, ups and downs, hospitalizations – I mean really being in the ICU for that matter – you know, going through tough times and watching her come back and bounce back and still maintain this sense of humor, and love and drive and will.”

She added:

“I just love her so much more, I respect her so much more. She really just gives me hope for life and the world.”

Back in 2015, Latifah said she often stayed at her mother’s home in New Jersey and concluded that her mom’s health helped her put everything in proper perspective:

“Whatever some tabloid printed means nothing, money doesn’t mean anything, work is great – I work so that I can take care of my family – but the family is the most important thing.”

We send our thoughts to Queen Latifah during this difficult time.

Kevin Smith Updates Fans on Heart Attack, Gets VERY Emotional

Kevin Smith is known for making people laugh.

But the man behind such movies as Clerks and Mallrats recently went through an extremely serious situation.

As previously reported on The Hollywood Gossip, Smith suffered a massive heart attack shortly after completing a comedy show in Arizona on Sunday night.

The director/producer/writer shared the following selfie from his hospital bed on social media and explained what happened to his fans as follows:

"I felt kinda nauseous. I threw up a little but it didn’t seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack…

"The Doctor who saved my life at the #glendale hospital told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (also known as "the Widow-Maker" because when it goes, you’re a goner)."

YIKES, right?

Two days after this near-death experience, Smith recorded a lengthy video of himself on Facebook in order to update his followers on his condition.

And, as you might expect, things got emotional.

"Hey, it"s me. I"m fine…kinda," Smith opened, attempting to joke around about what he"s been through and what he is still going through.

Smith then took folks through the full chain of events, from the moment he started feeling sick backstage ("I was honestly under the impression that I had gotten some f-cking bad milk") to struggling to catch his breath.

After realizing something was very much wrong, he got into an ambulance and sped away to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where the ER doctors immediately realized the star had suffered a serious heart attack.

These physicians had to go in through Smith"s groin to address the issue, which prompted Smith to joke again:

"My biggest fear in life: death—number one. Number two: people seeing my dick."

Soon enough, though, the joking came to an end.

"It was kind of like reading your eulogy," he added, saying into the camera:

"I saw what life will be like when I die – kind of what the reaction would be if I died. It was very, very sweet."

Smith eventually got choked up and concluded:

"I just thought about everything and thought about my parents and how they raised me and my brother and my sister and my friends and my wife and my kid and this weird wonderful career that I"ve had for so long and stuff and I was like content."

"What a ride it"s been," he said. "What an incredible f-cking ride."

Student Claims Airline Forced Her to Flush Emotional Support Hamster Down Toilet

A Florida college student says she was left in tears late last year after a Spirit Airlines employee said she wasn’t permitted to bring her emotional support hamster on board a flight.

Yes, her emotional support hamster.

Before you laugh at this story, however, keep reading down below. It’s actually pretty sad…

this is pebbles

According to The Miami Herald, Belen Aldecosea, a 21-year old from South Florida, was flying home from college due to an urgent medical issue in November.

She says she checked with Spirit on multiple occasions prior to the day of her flight and was assured that the hamster, Pebbles, would be allowed on the plane.

(Yes, Belen also says, a doctor certified the hamster as an emotional support companion. We assume this means she had a note from the physician.)

However, upon arriving at the Baltimore airport, Aldecosea was told the opposite.

She was told that Pebbles could not accompany her on her trip.

With no friends or family members anywhere in the area, and being too young to rent a car, Aldecosea says she was at a loss about how to proceed.

college student

She claims an airline employee suggested she flush Pebbles down a toilet.

“One of the representatives started giving me little tips like, ‘Oh you should just leave her, or flush her down the toilet,’” Aldecosea told The Herald.

She didn’t want to murder little Pebbles, but Aldecosea explained to the newspaper that she didn’t have “any other options.”

Therefore, crying uncontrollably, she went through with the recommended act, figuring it was more humane than releasing Pebbles outside, only for him to eventually get hit by a car.

“She was scared. I was scared,” Aldecosea told the publication. “It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet.”

We can only imagine.

hamster near wheel

Aldecosea has hired an attorney and is considering filing a lawsuit against Spirit Airlines for the conflicting information that she says led her to flush her emotional support pet.

In response to Aldecosea’s allegation, Spirit released the following statement on Thursday:

After researching this incident, we can say confidently that at no point did any of our agents suggest this Guest (or any other for that matter) should flush or otherwise injure an animal. It is incredibly disheartening to hear this Guest reportedly decided to end her own pet’s life.

Our reservation representative, unfortunately, did misinform the Guest that a hamster was permitted to fly as an emotional support animal on Spirit Airlines.

When the Guest appeared with the hamster at the airport, our agents offered and the Guest accepted an opportunity to take a later flight, so she had time to find other accommodations for the animal.

Our records indicate she was scheduled to take the 10:39 am flight on Nov. 21, but ended up taking the 7:42 pm flight that day.

We did offer the Guest a voucher for the inconvenience, but we never heard back from her.

This story has gone viral because… well… an emotional support hamster was involved.

But also because airlines of late have been cracking down on emotional support pets in general.

Emotional Support Peacock Gets Denied Seat on Airplane

We could all use a little emotional support at times.

But this is getting ridiculous.

As frequent travelers are likely aware, animals deemed to provide this sort of comfort to airline passengers have become more and more popular over recent years.

There"s a small dog on nearly every flight these days.

But a conceptual artist with the name "Ventiko" on Instagram recently took the program one step further: she tried to take her "emotional support" peacock, Dexter, on board a cross country flight from Newark to Los Angeles.

This is the story of that bird"s thwarted flight and the Internet"s response to it…

1. This is Dexter

This is dexter

His owner had been warned three times by United Airlines that he would not be permitted to travel with her. Nevertheless, she persisted in trying to get him on board.

2. And We Mean… PERSISTED!

And we mean persisted

She did not take no for an answer, not for awhile. Dexter has his own Instagram page and “wrote” the following as a caption to the photo above: “Spent 6 hours trying to get on my flight to LA (after following all required protocol) Tomorrow my human friends are going to drive me cross country! Keep an [eye] out for us!”

3. What? I’ll Pay for His Seat!

What ill pay for his seat

Even an offer to pay for Dexter’s seat by his owner did not earn the bird a spot on the flight.

4. The Internet Reacts!

The internet reacts

Not everyone thought the idea of an emotional support peacock was all that outlandish, not when compared to some other animals in airports.

5. Down with Dogs!

Down with dogs

Not all dogs, of course. But many users seem to prefer Dexter over the canines they’ve encountered on trips.

6. No One is Allergic to Peacocks

No one is allergic to peacocks

Think about it, airlines.
