PewDiePie Apologizes for Offensive Demi Lovato Meme

PewDiePie has issued a mea culpa for being a misguided, insensitive, offensive moron.

Three days after Demi Lovato was hospitalized for a drug overdose, the YouTube star thought it would be funny to make fun of the singer and her situation.

How could it not be, right?

This is a young woman who has batted self-esteem issues and mental health issues for years… who had admitted to having suicidal thoughts at the age of seven… and who nearly died after a night of hard and dangerous partying this week.

Talk about prime material for a joke, right?!?

Yes, according to PewDiePie.

Shortly after news broke about Lovato’s overdose, PewDiePie (what kind of name is PewDiePie?!?) shared a meme online that depicted the trouble artist asking her mother for money in order to buy a burger.

After receiving the money, however, Lovato turns around and buys heroin instead.

Here is the since-deleted image:

demi meme

demi meme

A couple of quick thoughts come to mind:

FIRST, this simply isn’t funny. Like, at all.

If you’re going to go out on an offensive limb to crack a joke, you better make sure it’s a funny joke.

This is just dumb and non-sensical. (Why would Lovato need to borrow cash from her mother? The whole thing makes no sense.)

SECOND, what the heck is wrong with you, PewDiePie?!?

We weren’t the only ones asking this question, as the YouTuber was forced to take down his stupid meme and then issue a statement in the wake of severe backlash.

“Deleted meme,” he wrote to start his apology, which concluded as follows:

“I didnt mean anything with it and I didnt fully know about the situation. I realize now it was insensitive, sorry!”

PewDiePie says

Please, dude.

You knew that Lovato overdosed on heroin (it has since been reported that the substance actually was NOT heroin) and you went ahead and posted that meme.

What misinterpretation about the situation are you claiming here?

Lovato, tragically, was found unconscious by her assistant around 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

This assistant then dialed 911 (listen to the call HERE) and paramedics revived the star prior to taking her to the hospital.

It is believed that Demi will soon head to a treatment facility somewhere far away from Los Angeles, but this has not yet been confirmed by the singer or anyone close to her.

It is simply what various anonymous insiders have reported.

In the meantime, practically everyone in Hollywood has sent his or her best wishes, as an entire industry worries about a young woman who has been so open over the years about her substance abuse issues.

We are all just praying she gets better.

And hoping she knows how many folks out there love her.

Lorde Shares INSANELY Offensive Post About Whitney Houston!

Lorde is so great, right?

She makes great music, she seems wise beyond her years, she once had a secret Instagram account devoted to reviewing onion rings.

What"s not to love?

Well, here"s at least one thing most people don"t seem to be too crazy about: yesterday Lorde made a post on Instagram that was extremely insensitive.

And it was about the late Whitney Houston, no less.

Has Lorde been canceled?!

Read on to see!

1. So Innocent

Lorde photograph

Lorde has been touring for the past several months, but yesterday she had a day off. To celebrate the occasion, she decided to take a nice, long bath. Sounds fine so far, right?

2. Oh, Honey

Oh honey

But then she posted this on Instagram. And things got bad so fast. Do you see the issue?

3. RIP, Whitney

Whitney houston photograph

She shared a photo of the bathtub with some lyrics from “I Will Always Love You,” the Dolly Parton song that Whitney Houston turned into an iconic ballad. But Whitney drowned in a bathtub. So it’s just not a great reference.

4. Lorde, Sweetie …

Lorde singer

Lorde has never done anything like this, so she likely just didn’t fully consider what she wrote before she posted it — it happens. But still, she got a big reaction out of this.

5. Ouch

Ouch

We get people being upset, but to say that she’s talentless? That’s a bit of a stretch.

6. "Lord of the Rings"

Lord of the rings

Is this person trying to say she looks like Gollum? We assume that’s what the message is here. Again, not cool.

Jill Duggar SLAMMED for Sharing Offensive Photo of Her Son?!

There are lots of fun things about being a celebrity.

Money, fame, adoring fans … what’s not to like?

As it turns out, if you just think about it for a minute, there are actually quite a few things not to like — for instance, all those strangers who feel like it’s OK to criticize you for each and every thing you do.

Sometimes it’s deserved, of course, but a lot of times, haters hate just for the fun of it.

The Duggars know that. They know it very, very well.

To be clear, the Duggars have done several things through the years that deserve heaps and heaps of hate.

That horrible molestation scandal, and the way Jim Bob and Michelle handled it? Despicable.

Josh’s Ashley Madison mistakes and his admission that he was addicted to both sex and porn? Yes, sure, throw all kinds of shade at that.

But a few days ago, Jill posted this photo of her younger son, Samuel, on Instagram:

Samuel Dillard Poop Incident

And surely there are things more deserving of your outrage than this.

“That moment when you hear the rumble and you’re like, ‘oh no! Quick! Stand him upright before he….too late,” Jill captioned the picture.

She added the hashtags “Samuel Scott Dillard,” “Sam the Man,” and “blowout,” just in case you needed a little more information.

The photo is instantly relatable for anyone who’s ever spent any significant amount of time around babies. Things like this happen, and they happen often.

But still, a lot of people feel like, for many reasons, Jill was wrong for sharing this.

“What would possess you to post such a dumb picture, Jill?” one of her followers asked. “Slow day at the house of Derelict Dillweed?”

All right, that’s a pretty solid nickname for Derick Dillard, we’re not going to lie. But things do get a lot worse.

“Why the hell would you post a pic of poop coming thru onesie?” another person asked. “Just another reason showing how you ‘girls’ really don’t have a life outside of being submissive to your hubbys.”

Someone told Jill that her post was “really not in good taste,” and someone else said “Seriously, it’s gross and nobody wants to see that.”

For one of her followers, the picture was simply too much — this person wrote “SMDH – yes quick take a pic post it on social media. Screw the fact he should of been changed.”

“Same as you did to poor Izzy bind him in a blanket let him cry as you take pics to post. Social Media comes before your kids damn Jill you are your parents!”

Way harsh, right?

But honestly, these people are kind of right.

If you’re on social media yourself, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen photos like these — some parents just enjoy sharing things like this.

You’d think that more people would understand that their friends don’t really care to see picture of actual poop while scrolling through their Instagram feeds …

But obviously you’d think wrong.

Still, this is all harmless, and we’re sure precious little Samuel didn’t suffer too much while his mom put off changing him for a second to take this picture.

Though to be clear, it’s definitely gross.

Kim Kardashian Gets Called Out for "Offensive" Aaliyah Costume

There’s a fine line between paying respect and being offensive.

And many Internet users think Kim Kardashian just crossed it.

The reality star has always embraced Halloween nearly as much as Heidi Klum, often dressed up in multiple costumes every year.

Just consider ALL THESE PHOTOS of the A-Lister as a mermaid, as Anna Wintour and even as a version of herself.

This year, Kardashian appears to have chosen a theme for her various looks: music.

She was spotted out at a party all decked out as Cher on Friday, for example, with best friend Jonathan Cheban doing his best Sonny Bono impression.

Sort of random, but definitely harmless, right?

Folks are not saying the same about Kim’s latest ensemble.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians mainstay posted a picture of herself dressed as the late artist Aaliyah in a glimmering bra and large rhinestone choker Sunday, captioning the sexy video as follows:

“Baby Girl Aaliyah.”

The beloved R&B singer was killed at the age of 22 in a plane crash and it’s certainly a bit strange for Kim to actually base a costume around this dead star.

As far as we know, Kim was not especially close to Aaliyah, who passed away in 2001, and, what else can we say… it’s just odd to dress up like a late celebrity, isn’t it?

Especially when you try to be all sexy and seductive in the costume, as Kim is clearly attempting here.

We’re not alone in this assessment, either.

Considering Aaliyah was also African-American, critics have jumped all over Kardashian for what they consider to be cultural appropriation.

This is a charge that has been leveled in the past against Kendall and Kylie Jenner and it means that someone isn’t respecting another culture…

… he or she instead is exploiting it for his or her own selfish purposes.

“Legend or not Aaliyah is a black woman and you’re not. It’s offensive and you shouldn’t push this limit,” wrote one Twitter user in response to this outfit.

Others were equally direct and harsh:

To be fair, however, Kardashian does have her defenders.

Writes one person:

“Kimberly Kardashian West looks great dressed as Aaliyah. THAT is how you pay respect without doing Blackface. Great job @KimKardashian!”

And another:

“The people mad that Kim K. dressed up as Aaliyah only know the chorus to One In A Million. Shut Up. Stop Being Bitter.”

Where do you stand?

Is Kardashian honoring Aaliyah? Offending her memory? Or just being very strange with this costume choices?

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik SLAMMED for Offensive Vogue Cover!

Doing a photo shoot for Vogue is a very, very big deal, and landing the cover is even bigger.

But we imagine that landing a cover that ends up getting bashed for being offensive and ridiculous isn’t quite as much fun.

Still, that’s the situation Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have found themselves in presently.

See, Vogue decided to do a feature about gender fluidity, and so they got typically adorable couple Gigi and Zayn to pose for the accompanying photo shoot.

This is the first issue: why not get models who are actually gender fluid instead of one of Taylor Swift’s squad members and the guy who used to be in One Direction?

In the shoot, Gigi wore all kinds of suits, and Zayn wore some clothing items with a floral print, and some with lots of embellishments.

In the interview, she said that she wore his clothes all the time, and he added that he wore hers sometimes, too.

“I like that shirt,” Zayn said about one particular piece in Gigi’s closet. “And if it’s tight on me, so what? It doesn’t matter if it was made for a girl.”

“Totally,” Gigi agreed. “It’s not about gender. It’s about, like, shapes. And what feels good on you that day. And anyway, it’s fun to experiment.”

She also said “If Zayn’s wearing a tight shirt and tight jeans and a big, drapey coat, I mean– I’d wear that, too. It’s just about, Do the clothes feel right on you?”

“With social media, the world’s gotten very small,” Zayn explained, “and it can seem like everyone’s doing the same thing.”

“Gender, whatever — you want to make your own statement. You know? You want to feel distinct.”

And all that is fine. You can wear whatever clothes you want, sure. Do what makes you happy.

But the issue is that being gender fluid isn’t exactly about being a woman and wearing a suit, or being a man who feels cool wearing floral prints.

And Twitter has been doing an A+ job of calling Vogue out for this mess.

“Zayn and Gigi are profiled in this piece on gender fluidity because… they borrow each other’s clothes sometimes?” one person wondered.

Another wrote “My bf and I share t-shirts, that doesn’t mean we are gender fluid. Jeez louise Vogue, all ya had to do was Google the definition.”

As one reasonable Twitter user pointed out, “I believe Vogue should have called it ‘Androgynous’ and not gender fluid. Seems like just an excuse to put them on the cover.”

Violet Chachki, incredible drag queen and winner of season seven of RuPaul’s Drag Race, even got into the debate.

“There’s an entire marginalized community that actually deals with the problems and joys of being visibly queer day to day,” she wrote in a post on Snapchat.

“Ya know people that wear gendered clothing different than the gender they were assigned at birth, not only because it’s cute and fun but as a means of survival.”

Vogue received so much backlash for the issue that they’ve already made a public apology.

“They story was intended to highlight the impact the gender-fluid, non-binary communities have had on fashion and culture,” their statement read.

“We are very sorry the story did not correctly reflect that spirit — we missed the mark. We do look forward to continuing the conversation with greater sensitivity.”

As of now, neither Gigi or Zayn have commented on the controversy.

Do you think Vogue was out of line with this? Sound off below!
