Scandal Recap: Who Died? Who Will Be President?!
Shonda Rhimes & Co. delivered one of their all-time shockers last night on Scandal Season 6 Episode 11, which is sure saying something.
After last week’s parallel-universe diversion and figuring out where Huck is, we finally got the answer to the 50 million-dollar question:
Who is going to be president?
If you watch Scandal online, you know the episode titles are often telling, and this long-awaited installment was certainly no exception.

With Cyrus now released from prison and poised to assume the presidency, the opposition wasn’t about to lay down and let that happen.
Mellie, the Trojan Horse, of this scenario, was their best hope to retain the White House, and she rose to power in shocking fashion.
Warning: Spoilers below …
Lizzie North was bludgeoned to death, in front of Mellie, to prove she really didn’t have much say in the matter, and well, that was that.
Again, we repeat, Elizabeth North is dead and Mellie Grant is Madame President. You may pry your jaws off of the floor at any moment.
Afterward, the actress who played Lizzie spoke out.
Portia de Rossi said in the following statement: “I am incredibly grateful for my time here at Scandal! I will miss playing Elizabeth North.”
“But I’ve made the decision to focus on a business opportunity. Shonda, Betsy and the cast have been incredibly supportive of my decision.”
“I will always love my Scandal family. I’ll be watching!”
Rhimes also released a statement: “I have been a fan of Portia’s for years and it was an honor to have her join our Scandal family.”
“Portia infused Liz North with a smart powerful vulnerable soul while also making the humor sing – and that brought all of us in the writers room a lot of joy.”
“If I could keep her forever, I would – but kidnapping is illegal. Besides, I am incredibly impressed with the vision she has for her creative future.”
“I wish her all the best.”
All in all, Scandal fans can probably agree on the fact that no matter whom they wanted to be president, it’s exciting to move on now.
There’s been so much buildup and finally, we got the payoff and will see what the writers have in store for us next (more doozies no doubt).
As for Olivia, she was taken to task often this week, and we saw that her infamous intuition has been off the mark in a big way of late.
Mellie called her out and Cyrus slammed a door in her face, as Pope was exposed as more vulnerable than we could have ever imagined.
At the end of the day, she really only wanted Cyrus to win the White House because of guilt, and it did not work out for her on any level.
Meanwhile, Jake proved once again that he’s a better character whilst cleaning up bodies and committing burglary than as a love interest.
He’s a man who does what he must.
Hopefully for fans, that means brutally taking down his adversaries with unspeakably shady tactics, because that’s what he’s best at.
We all have our strong suits, right?

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 16 Recap: Who Died?!?
Who did not make it out of The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 16 alive?
As is always the case with a season-ender of this successful AMC drama series, there was a big death to say goodbye. Turns out, this death may just have been a catalyst for giving the tired show a new lease of life.
When the episode got underway, the Alexandrians reacted with shock and anger to Dwight showing up and offering his help to kill Negan. Tara quizzed him about killing Denise, but he said he had to do it.
Just as Daryl was about to kill Dwight, Dwight claimed he could help with the looming war and told the group that Negan and his men were coming to take down Alexandria the next day.
He offered to help them wipe the Saviors off the face of the earth. Surprisingly, decided to take Dwight up on his offer and sent him on his way back to the Sanctuary.
The next morning, Carol took the Kingdom and Shiva towards Alexandria. On their travels, they bumped into Morgan, who was going after the Saviors alone. Carol managed to talk him into joining them.
Back in Alexandria, Jadis and her group appeared to take control of the guns, while Rosita set up bombs around the perimeter to take Negan out once and for all.
When the Saviors arrived, Sasha pressed the detonator on the bomb, but nothing happened. In a shocking turn of events, Jadis and her people were revealed to be traitors and had made a better deal with Negan.
All of her people turned their guns on the Alexandra people. After a tense bit of back and forth between Negan and Rick, the war was declared, but not before it was revealed that Sasha had killed herself in a coffin and tried to take a bite out of Negan.
This caused the three factions to fight for survival, but ultimately, Negan managed to have Carl and Rick together. He told Rick he was going to kill Carl with one swing of Lucille.
Rick told him to get on with it but warned he was still going to kill Negan. It was a bold accusation to make for someone who was about to die, but it showed just how much Rick had matured.
When Negan first struck, Rick, did not know what to do or say to stop it. Thankfully, before there any bloodshed, the Kingdom and Hilltop arrived, and the war went into full force.
Jadis’ people were pretty much made extinct, but Jadis fired a flare that found her people locking Rick’s group in and setting off bombs. In a flash, the villains had made their getaway.
Daryl got word from Dwight that he had nothing to do with Jadis’ people turning the tables, while Rick and Carl found Michonne, who had survived her ordeal.
Scenes of Sasha with all of the characters appeared sporadically through the episode. It was revealed that Sasha took the pill Eugene made for her.
Negan questioned this back at the Sanctuary, but Eugene said she ran out of oxygen. Negan then told his troops to prepare for war.

Casey Anthony has spoken out publicly for the first time since she was acquitted of killing her toddler daughter Caylee in July 2011.
The interview she gave to the Associated Press is not likely to help the public perception of her … not that she seems overly concerned.
Eight and a half years after her daughter died, and five and a half after she was controversially found not guilty of murder, she insists:
“I’m still not even certain as I stand here today about what happened.”
Now 30 years old, Casey says it’s not lost on her that much of the world still believes she is responsible for the death of Caylee Anthony.
“Based off what was in the media,” she says, she’s keenly aware.
The media portrayal of her was not good, but this is also a woman who could not account for a month in which her child was missing.
Moreover, she lied to investigators and her defense theory involved an accidental drowning for which there was no eyewitness testimony.
How can she expect to be a sympathetic figure after that?
“I understand the reasons people feel about me,” she admits.
“I understand why people have the opinions that they do.”
Still, she says she was convicted in the court of public opinion from the beginning, and nothing she did afterward could alter that stigma.
“The queen is proclaiming: ‘No, no, sentence first, verdict afterward,"” she said. “I sense and feel to this day that is a direct parallel to what I lived.”
“My sentence was doled out long before [the] verdict. Sentence first, verdict afterward. People found me guilty long before I had my day in court.”
“I don’t give a s–t about what anyone thinks about me, I never will,” Anthony said. “I’m OK with myself, I sleep pretty good at night.”
Whatever works.
Caylee’s skeletal remains were discovered back in December 2008, six months after the little girl was mysteriously reported missing.
The defense team posited that Caylee Anthony’s death was an accident and that she drowned accidentally in Casey’s parents’ pool.
George Anthony, Casey’s father and Caylee’s grandfather, found the body and helped dispose of it – according to the defense theory.
Asked about that, Casey said, “Everyone has their theories, I don’t know … as I stand here today I can’t tell you one way or another.”
“The last time I saw my daughter I believed she was alive and was going to be okay, and that’s what was told to me.”
The prosecution, conversely, claimed that Casey Anthony dumped Caylee’s body in the woods and then resumed her life of partying.
Casey eventually pleaded guilty to lying to the police, and was released after three years in jail awaiting and during her murder trial.
Asked by the AP why she lied to law enforcement, she says:
“Even if I would’ve told them everything that I told to the psychologist, I hate to say this but I firmly believe I would have been in the same place.”
“Because cops believe other cops.”
“Cops tend to victimize the victims. I understand now … I see why I was treated the way I was even had I been completely truthful.”
“Cops lie to people every day.”
“I’m just one of the unfortunate idiots who admitted they lied. My dad was a cop, you can read into that what you want to,” she laments.
The AP reports that Casey’s bedroom walls are decorated with photos of her daughter and that she cried showing off Caylee’s artwork.
She lives at the home of South Florida home of Patrick McKenna, a private detective who was leading the investigation on her defense team.
Casey works with him, helping to investigate cases and said she would love to get her PI’s license. “I’ve lived it firsthand,” she said.
“I didn’t do what I was accused of but I fought for three years,” she says, adding that she fought “not just for me, but for my daughter.”
Anthony spends her time outside of her work taking photos of nature, hanging out with friends in bars, and thinking about her daughter.
Casey notes that “Caylee would be 12 right now … and would be a total badass. I’d like to think she’d be listening to classic rock, playing sports.”

Celebrities Who Died in 2016: Worst. Year. EVER.
2016 was maybe the worst year on record for celebrity deaths.
Incredibly, ALL of the following people passed away over these 12 months.

1. Muhammad Ali
The 3-time heavyweight champion, famous for coining the phrase “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” passed away on June 3rd in Arizona from complications relating to Parkinson’s disease. He was 64.
2. Prince
Rest in peace, Prince. The iconic singer was found dead at his home at the young age of 57.
3. David Bowie
David Bowie was one of the most influential figures in the history of rock and roll. He passed away at the age of 69.
4. Antonin Scalia
Antonin Scalia, a giant of the U.S. Supreme Court for more than three decades, died of natural causes in February. His loss is a remarkable one for the judicial system – as is its impact on the political system.
5. Carrie Fisher
Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher passed away after suffering a major heart attack just before Christmas. She was 60.
6. George Michael
George Michael died over the Christmas holiday, reportedly of heart failure. He was just 53 years old.

The Curse of 2016: Why Have So Many Celebrities Died This Year?
In the comments section for her latest post on the blogging site Medium, a writer named Judy Anne was heavily criticized for her overly-simplistic explanation for why so many beloved celebrities prematurely passed away in 2016.
Like so many of us, Judy Anne is desperate to make somehow make sense of how the entertainment world could be shaken by so many tragedies in a single 12-month span.
Unlike the rest of us, she claims to have the answer.
Judy believes that a rise in the use of illicit substances is to blame for the endless string of famous deaths that marred the past year.
Thankfully, dozens of Medium users were quick to point out the foolishness of her argument.
(The fact that she felt the need to refer to George Michael as “an enthusiastic cannabis user” – as though that habit played any role in his death – certainly didn’t help her case.)
Were some beloved entertainers felled by substance abuse over the past year?
Sadly, yes.
The most obvious example is the death of Prince, who overdosed on the fentanyl, which he had been using to treat chronic pain.
But the celebrities who left us in 2016 did so in myriad ways, ranging from freak accidents to unthinkable acts of violence to old age.
By now, you’ve likely heard the jokes about the awfulness of 2016, joined in the mourning when an entertainer whose work touched your life passed before their time, and wondered aloud why so many celebrities died in such a short period of time.
Of course, despite what Judy Anne would have you believe, there’s no indication that a new addiction epidemic is sweeping Hollywood.
No, the real reasons that stars seem to be falling in record numbers are more complex and far less scandalous:
For starters, the number of entertainers, athletes, politicians, and other public figures who could be described as famous exploded in the years after World War II.
As television entered households, entertainment options expanded, and faces were matched with the names of America’s favorite stars.
With each ensuing decade, the number of celebrities increased, sometimes exponentially.
The Internet opened the doors for a new breed of media personality by eliminating the need to follow the traditional paths to fame.
In short, there are more celebrities now than ever before, and because the pop cultural landscape we know today began to take shape in the mid-20th Century, many of those stars are getting on in years.
So part of the reason it seems like so many famous people are dying is because we’re feeling the after-effects of the celebrity boom that began in the late ’40s and early ’50s.
Sadly, that means the trend of beloved showbiz icons passing on in astonishing numbers is likely to continue in the years to come.
Of course, the fact remains that some of the stars who left us this year were not baby boomer legends, but young phenoms who had yet to show us what heights they could achieve.
Anton Yelchin, Christina Grimmie, Joey Feek, Phife Dawg, and Dave Mirra ranged in age from 22 to 45, and they all left this world well before their time in 2016.
There deaths remind us that there’s no way to fully make sense of the tragedies that hit Hollywood this year.
We can point to the increase in the number of celebrities, the proliferation of media that brings our attention to deaths we may not have known about, and plain old horrendous luck, but as anyone who’s ever mourned a loved one knows, attempts to make sense of the loss of a life that touched your own are usually in vain.
Perhaps all we can do for now is be grateful for the stars who are still with us and hope for a better year ahead.

Lisa Edelstein: Alan Thicke Died to Avoid Donald Trump!
Lisa Edelstein is a generally lovely woman, best known for her Bravo show, Girlfriends Guide to Divorce, and for playing Dr. Cuddy on House.
But today, she is known for being absolutely, unforgivably terrible.
As you’ve surely heard by now, Alan Thicke passed away on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a particularly intense heart attack.
He was playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter, when he collapsed. An ambulance took him to a nearby hospital, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
It’s been a very sad time — not only did his three children lose their father, not only did his wife of 11 years lose her husband, but we all lost a beloved celebrity.
Alan Thicke is gone from this world, it’s very upsetting … and enter Lisa Edelstein.
While tons of other celebs have been sharing their own memories and condolences and the like, Lisa thought it was appropriate to share this on Twitter:
Yes, she actually did type out the words “RIP Alan Thicke. Seems like everyone is checking out before the Trumpacolypse,” and then she thought those words were good to share with the internet right now.
Where do we even start?
While we gather our thoughts, let’s check out a few responses Lisa received on Twitter.
One person pointed out that “1) he was Canadian. 2) A family lost a husband and a father. This is NOT the time for politics.”
Another described Lisa’s words as a “Soulless Tweet By Morally Bankrupt C Class ‘Celebrity."”

“I’ll be embarrassed for you since you clearly lack the capacity to absorb your own insensitivity. Gross.”

Boy, you really came through on this one, Internet.
Look, we get it. The fact that Donald Trump is all set to become our actual president is upsetting and confusing and scary. And it’s OK to be scared.
But there’s a time and place for everything. There’s a time to joke, and there’s a time to be respectful, and Lisa here seems to have a hard time understanding that right now.
Hopefully she’ll be able to understand the error of her tweets, and in the future, she won’t be so insensitive.
But right now … damn, Lisa, you really deserve this dragging.
