Keaton Jones/Mother Address Video Backlash, Cries of Racism

On Tuesday morning, Tennessee middle school student Keaton Jones became an Internet hero after he explained, tearfully, on camera that he"s been the victim of horrible bullying for several weeks now.

Just a few hours later, the mother of Keaton Jones became an Internet villain.

In an odd story that sort of sums up the craziness of 2017, Jones sobbed into his mother"s phone that he was afraid to go to lunch due to the way he was treated by fellow students.

He then tried to be strong and tried to send a positive message of hope to other victims of bullying.

It quickly went viral, with celebrities from all industries sending Keaton positive thoughts and inviting him to special events such as UFC pay-per-views and big-time movie premieres.

It appeared to be a sad story, but also an uplifting one with a happy ending.

However, later on Tuesday, Internet sleuths delved into the social media history of Keaton"s mother, Kimberly, and discovered a few controversial posts.

There was a Facebook photo, for instance, of the family posing with Confederate flags.

As a result, GoFundMe placed a campaign on pause that had raised $ 57,000 for Keaton and his loved ones.

There are now questions over whether the entire video was set up by Kimberly just to make her family lots of money.

In response to this scandal, both Keaton and his mom sat down for a pair of interviews this week.

“The only two photos – the only two photos on my entire planet that I am anywhere near a Confederate flag. It was ironic,” Kimberly told CBS News this morning, adding that there was no racist intent behind the images.

“I’ve said I spent most of my life being bullied and judged because I wasn’t racist…

“It was meant to be ironic and funny … I am genuinely truly sorry. If I could take it back, I would.”

Keaton says in the original video that bullies "make fun of my nose. They call me ugly. They say I have no friends."

And the 11-year old reiterated those claims to CBS, basically saying the video was his idea:

"I had enough of it. They had said that someone was going to beat me up in lunch so I texted my mom and I said, ‘What do I do here?’"

This is one of the controversial photos in question, shared by Kimberly earlier this year:

Talking to The Today Show, she said:

"Yesterday [Keaton] was a hero. You know, the world loved us. Today, the world hates us…

"I"m trying really hard to think that I was trying not to get caught up in the positives. So, we"re not going to get caught up in the negatives." 

It"s unclear at the moment what will happen to the money earmarked for the Jones"s on GoFundMe.

But Kimberly’s daughter, Lakyn, defended her mother in a now-deleted Twitter post, writing:

“To those who think my mother is a racist, she is not. She is a southern woman who loves where she’s from. She believes in equality and doesn’t want any harm done to ANYONE.

"This is about bullying and my brother. Not her. Please leave it alone.”

Kendra Wilkinson Picks Cotton, Gets Accused of Racism

Kendra Wilkinson is the outspoken star of We TV’s Kendra on Top. 

We say outspoken because, well, she has no filter. Whether she’s posting a sultry selfie on social media, or just appearing on her reality TV show, she’s always stirring up some sort of controversy. 

We’re not even sure she knows she’s doing it, and that’s likely why she’s such a draw with viewers. 

The 32-year-old was on a road trip with her husband, Hank Bassett, and thought it would be fun to stop by a cotton field in Texas because “she always wanted to pick cotton.”

Have a look at the picture in question below. It shows Wilkinson posing with some cotton and a whole field of cotton behind her. 

People took offense to the post and immediately started slamming the star in the comments section of the snap. 

“Racist piece of s–t,” one user wrote. Added another: “People are upset because you are joking about history that you are just simply ignorant about. Some things just keep to yourself.”

While some chose to go on the offensive, the star’s legion of fans also came to her defense. 

“Been watching Kendra from day one, she’s a free spirit,” one fan commented. “You are just combing through social media praying for anything to pound on and rip it to shreds… Hello her husband and children are part black.”

“Don’t give the haters the benefit of explaining what ur doing like picking cotton,” said another. 

One final fan wanted the haters to disappear: “Keep your head up. Ignore the ignorance. I have always liked you and your real fans know you are not a racist and you love everyone equally. Live! Laugh! Love!”

The hatred did not go unnoticed by Kendra who returned to social media to clap back at the people assassinating her character. 

“Lol. I just wanted to pick cotton from a plant cuz I’ve always wondered how it really felt. Never in my life thought of color or race at the time,” she wrote on Wednesday.

“I was trespassing n ran up to grab some cotton. I am not racist. Was just having fun n wanted to feel n wondered how it felt. Hahahahah. I can’t believe I’m getting accused of being racist when I’m sitting here with my black father in law rt now baffled at the accusations.

“F–k off to anyone who don’t know me n know what I’m about. Just cuz I picked some f–king cotton. It’s a f–king plant. Omg I can’t.”

Like we said, Kendra is not afraid to hit back at people throwing shade her way. The star was very likely on the trip why she recovered from a mysterious hospital visit. And, no, it had nothing to do with handjobs this time around … we hope. 

The star has been acting in Sex Tips for Straight Women From a Gay Man, and disaster struck when some of the shows had to be canceled after she found herself in hospital.

“Super sick. Going to have to cancel the late show tonight. My heart couldn’t cancel both. Sorry late show,” she said at the time.

“Sooooo sorry guys gotta cancel both shows tonight. Going to ER. Hurtin bad. I’ll make it up to you.”

David Cross Accused of Racism; Amber Tamblyn Fights Back

So there’s been this thing going on for the past couple of weeks, don’t know if you’ve noticed, where all kinds of people are really opening up about moments when they were harassed.

It’s like women started talked about their experiences with Harvey Weinstein, then suddenly everyone felt comfortable sharing some real deep, dark stuff.

It’s actually been pretty inspiring to see.

People have called out Harvey and other celebrities like Ben Affleck and George Clooney for their bad behavior, and now actress/comedian Charlyne Yi is doing the same with David Cross.

In a series of tweets made on Monday, Charlyne recalled the first time she met David.

It was about ten years ago, she explained, and “he made fun of my pants (that were tattered because I was poor). Dumbfounded I stared at him speechless and he said to me ‘what’s a matter? You don’t speak English?? Cing-chong-ching-chong."”

“Then after he saw I was offended he asked me if I was going to fight with him karate in a southern accent.”

She said that a few years after that, she was introduced to him again after she performed a comedy show, and “he said ‘Hi nice to meet you."”

“I will say this,” she continued. “I can tell the difference between this man making a joke vs condescending me.”

“This happened 10 years ago and I sure as hell hope he’s changed (or at the very least, he’s scared enough to not be his racist self.”

“HOWEVER,” she concluded, “it is very uncool that a 40+ man was being racist towards me, being a young 20 year old woman who was clearly on the verge of tears from his first racist comment.”

So that’s a pretty awful story, right?

But in a Twitter post of his own, David suggested that perhaps Charlyne simply wasn’t remembering things correctly.

He wrote that this “accusation” was “deeply upsetting,” that he would “never intentionally hurt someone like that,” and that he does not even remember any of this happening.

However, he also tried to make it clear that he wasn’t accusing her of lying, “and I’m truly sorry if I hurt her, it was never my intention to do that.”

David said that while he doesn’t remember doing any of the things Charlyne said he did, he reached out to her about the issue, and he also proposed “the possibility that perhaps we are both misremembering exactly what happened that night.”

He finished up his message with “I can’t believe I have to write this but I am not a racist nor a bully and loathe them in real life.”

But after mulling the whole thing over for a while, he came to the conclusion that he may have actually said those things, but he just said them as “some asshole redneck racist character.”

Because he grew up in Georgia, see, and he’s frequently used that kind of character to make fun of those asshole redneck racists. Charlyne just didn’t get that, apparently.

After explaining that, he wrote that he was “done with this,” and that he hopes the people who have called him a racist have to deal with a similar scandal, because “maybe then you won’t be so quick to judge.”

Yikes.

Why is it so hard for some people to just make a sincere apology for something they’ve done? Why is that such a task?

Charlyne made it clear that David offended her and hurt her, and not for some ridiculous reason either — regardless of whether or not he was doing a character, he said racist things to her and it didn’t go over well.

Why does he feel the need to justify it so much when a simple “Hey, I was trying to be funny and messed up, I’m sorry” would have done the job?

Whatever the reason, David’s wife, Amber Tamblyn, has jumped into the fray, too.

And if you’re remembering her amazing words about feminism and sexism and hoping she’ll make it all better … well, you’re in for a surprise. Not a good one, either.

People were talking on Twitter about David’s lackluster response to Charlyne’s story, and someone said that it was unfortunate because Amber is so great.

“He said he was sorry, publicly, several times,” she responded. Please don’t @ me in conversations dragging my husband. Thanks.”

Several people called her out for that statement, because David never really apologized, and he certainly didn’t do it several times.

Someone even pointed out that she dragged James Woods “like a dead body all over the internet for being a perv but ‘sorry’ is OK for your obnoxiously racist husband.”

Enough people pointed out the problem that she reconsidered, and last night she revealed that she personally spoke with Charlyne, “and her feelings/safety are all that matter to me.”

“We’re good,” she added. “I owe you nothing, Twitter. You’re lucky to have me.”

“I’ll say it again,” she wrote when people still tried to criticize her. “I spoke to Charlyne. I believe her. I’m about HER feelings/emotional health right now, not Twitter’s. That okay with you?”

“I will say this for the last time. Do not hold women accountable for the actions, decisions or words of their partners. Don’t. Do it.”

Ree Drummond, Food Network Star, Dragged for Apparent Racism and Dumb Jokes

Ree Drummond is known as The Pioneer Woman.

That’s the name of her popular show on The Food Network.

But some viewers now think Drummond should be referred to instead as the Racist and Wildly Inappropriate Woman, based on a few remarks she’s recently made.

The long-time celebrity chef has stirred up controversy on multiple fronts of late, starting with a very strange blog post in which she said her individuality stemmed from the fact she had a “black grandpa.”

Except she didn’t.

There’s no record of any African-American relatives on Drummond’s family tree.

“In the same bizarre post, she went on to admit that he was actually white and [claimed] she thought he was African-American most of her life because of his tan,” wrote In Touch Weekly of Ree’s initial assessment and then strange admission.

Based on this logic, Drummond must also think George Hamilton is black.

The blog post in question has since been deleted.

But those who read it or heard about it were understandably ticked off that Drummond basically compared a tan white person to a black person.

Elsewhere, Drummond penned another blog post in which she allegedly referred to her developmentally disabled brother Mike as “retarded.”

We can’t verify for certain whether or not this word was actually used in conjunction with her sibling.

If so, however… YIKES!

Finally, there’s the matter of a quip we can definitely verify – because it took place during an episode of Drummond’s Food Network program.

While serving some hot wings to a bunch of friends, Drummond joked that they were not barbecue flavored, but actually “Asian” flavored instead.

The friends stood in confused silence over this description, prompting Ree to say she was just kidding around.

But it was a random joke that did not go over well with certain fans at all.

“I was already bummed by the lack of diversity on @foodnetwork Now @thepioneerwoman & co. are on there saying they don’t trust “asian” food??” Tweeted one irate user.

Drummond has been in the national picture for a long time.

She has appeared over the years on Good Morning America, The Today Show, The View, The Chew and The Bonnie Hunt Show.

She has also been featured in Ladies’ Home Journal, Woman’s Day, People and Southern Living.

Her first cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl, was published in October 2009 and she has gone on to pen many more since then.

After taking on the host during an episode of Throwdown! With Bobby Flay in 2010, Drummond was given her own Food Network show a year later.

Derick Dillard: There"s No Racism in America!

Of all the men who have married into the Duggar family, no one has been as outspoken as Derick Dillard.

The husband of Jill Duggar has drawn criticism for his ultra-conservative views in the past, but despite the considerable backlash over past statements, it seems he has no intention of keeping his views to himself going forward.

Fans first became aware of Derick’s more far-right stance when he attacked Jazz Jennings in a series of increasingly offensive social media posts back in August.

Jennings is a transgender teen who, like Derick, stars in a TLC reality series.

In a tirade of tweets that former fans and other celebrities have denounced as a full-blown campaign of harassment, Derick argued that Jazz is mentally ill and setting a dangerous example for America’s young people.

Now, Derick has turned his attention to the ever-growing problem of systemic racism in America.

Not surprisingly, his thoughts on the matter are attracting still more criticism to a family that’s already endured numerous PR disasters over the course of the past three years.

“The US is one of the least racist countries in the world. In unity, let’s strive to protect & improve this anomaly in history,” Derick tweeted yesterday.

His remark seems to be a reaction against the NFL anthem protests that began during the 2016 preseason.

Dillard first expressed his opposition to the protests with a retweet from Fox News on October 1.

Not surprisingly, Derick was swiftly chastised for what many fans see as an appallingly naïve worldview.

“Your privilege is showing… racism may not exist in your ‘world’ but it’s real everywhere else,” tweeted one fan.

“We still have instances of police brutality and targeting of the black community. Derick, you’re white. That’s why you’re not seeing this,” commented another.

Derick’s latest tweet stands in sharp contrast to one that he posted on August 12, in which he condemned the activities of white supremacist hate groups in Charlotteville, Virginia.

“It’s deplorable what’s happened in Virginia this wkd. Praying 4 those affected by these unacceptable violent acts of hatred. Racism is evil!” Derick tweeted following riots that left one woman dead.

It’s unclear what may have caused Derick to reverse course on the issue of racism in America, but many believe it’s part of a cynical effort to pander to his base.

Those closest to Dillard believe he sees a future for himself in politics, and this may be the beginning of his attempt to make a name for himself amongst certain fringe groups.

PewDiePie Slammed for Racism AGAIN, Roasted by Twitter!

Hey, you know when you stub your toe or somebody cuts you off in traffic and, whoops, you accidentally say something outrageously bigoted?

No, you don’t do that? You’re a decent human being who doesn’t have slurs floating around on the tip of your tongue, ready to spill out whenever you’re frustrated?

Then you’re a better person than the infamous YouTuber named PewDiePie, because he’s once again under fire for bigotry.

PewDiePie is a YouTuber who plays video games while commenting. Some of his “edgy humor” won him a sizable following.

He’s also handsome. That’s the “secret” of being successful on YouTube, just like with Instagram.

(Also, like, in life — it’s not the only way to success, but it sure does help)

PewDiePie’s real name is Felix Kjellberg, but his YouTube moniker has earned him internet fame as well as millions and millions of dollars.

You might think that becoming a millionaire by streaming gameplay on YouTube sounds like a scam or a pipe dream, but it’s supported by ad revenue and sponsorships. And the few who make this tier provide entertainment to tens of millions of subscribers.

But not everyone who becomes rich and famous is a good person. As we are all painfully aware.

Earlier this year, Disney released PewDiePie for his antisemitic “prank” that was deeply disturbing. 

See, PewDiePie had hired two men to carry a sign that supported the murder of Jewish people. He claimed that it was a joke.

Obviously, it’s not funny.

Honestly, we’d almost forgotten that PewDiePie still had a following, as people outed him as a racist years ago and we’d pretty much stopped seeing people talk about him.

Maybe now, they’ll really stop talking about him.

This time, PewDiePie didn’t get in trouble for his “edgy humor,” but for what he said while streaming a game.

He was playing and livestreaming a game called PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds. He voiced his frustration while playing, and … it’s pretty awful.

“What a f–king n—-r. Geez, oh my god, what the f–k! Sorry but what the f–k! What a f–king a–hole.”

So he just dropped the literal worst word in the entire English language. The N-word is worse than “f–k” and worst than “moist.”

But apparently, it was just on the tip of PewDiePie’s tongue as a handy insult that he was ready to hurl.

It’s important to understand how video game frustration works in order to truly understand how indefensible PewDiePie’s use of that slur is.

I did my first real peer-versus-peer gaming back in 2008, on a team with my best friend. He and I were on voice chat.

It was absolutely frustrating. I cursed and vocalized my frustration.

Having recently watched a marathon of Kathy Griffin standup, everything that I said while venting my fury sounded like Kathy Griffin’s impression of her mother’s cursing.

That’s kind of funny, but it reflected what had just been on my mind.

Personally, and especially as a white dude from the South, I cannot imagine having a “slip up” like PewDiePie’s.

Honestly, I don’t even like to say the name of that bouncing tiger from Winnie the Pooh. For the N-word to be floating around PewDiePie’s subconscious enough that he’s ready to fire it off by accident is basically unthinkable.

As you can imagine, every corner of the internet not frequented by white supremacists was pretty horrified.

Twitter responded:

“You don’t accidentally say a derogatory term.”

“He’s literal trash.”

“He only apologized because he remembered that he was live streaming and was caught using a word he’s comfortable using in private.”

At least one video game developer announced that they were going to file a copyright takedown notice with YouTube to get footage of their games removed from PewDiePie’s YouTube channel.

Since YouTube streams of games are essentially free advertising for videogame developers, this is a move about principle.

Developers from other video game companies expressed their approval for the move on Twitter.

PewDiePie’s been hemorrhaging fans over the years, but we’re sure that he’ll have his loyalists who want to forgive him. Again.

Or maybe he’s finally reached his breaking point.

Kim Kardashian: DRAGGED for Defending Jeffree Star"s Racism!

Right now, after the Nazi march in Charlottesville and the violence that followed, anyone and everyone is being loud and clear about how much they hate racism.

Oh, everyone except for Kim Kardashian, who is going to bat for Jeffree Star, of all people. And Twitter has taken notice, folks.

As you"ll see in the video below, Kim Kardashian goes to great lengths to avoid even mentioning racism as she defends him. And that is why she"s been being dragged on Twitter all day long.

To tell you what"s going on and why "Kim K" and "Jeffree Star" have been trending for half the day, we should start at the beginning:

Okay, so, Jeffree Star has been famous for about a decade or so. 

Like, he got big on MySpace and LiveJournal, so that"s the era when his career launched.

Jeffree Star is, among other things, a model known for his eccentric appearance.

Like, we know that he looks kind of extra in that photo with Kim, but he used to wear long-ass pink hair and snow-white makeup, so that"s a mild look.

He"s a makeup expert, but he"s also a singer and a performer.

Well, fast-forward to modern times, where he criticized Kim Kardashian West Beauty"s products on Twitter.

"Umm… Kim what is going on with those new swatches?? Looks like chalk."

We"re not going to get bogged down in the merits of his criticism, because critiquing makeup is a whole other thing.

No, what happened next is that Kim"s fans and followers saw this.

And they went off.

Now, this is kind of normal for celebrities.

You"ll have people who go "hmm this is incorrect" or "terrible that you would say this."

But you"ll have countless thousands of people, whether they"re the Beyhive or Little Monsters or whatever, who act independently but nonetheless amount to a swarm of hate that fills people"s Twitter mentions.

It"s … not a great part of fan culture.

Anyway, that prompted Kim Kardashian to make a video (which we have for you below), where she defends Jeffree Star, claiming that people can change.

Maybe she knows the details of what Jeffree Star is accused of doing, maybe she doesn"t.

(He"s not accused of retelling some bad or "edgy" racist jokes; he"s accused of screaming the n-word multiple times at specific people. As an adult, to be clear)

But many have pointed out that it"s alarming that Kim would go to such lengths to defend Jeffree Star"s past, even though he"s apologized, considering that many of his statements could have been directed at her husband or her children.

Twitter, uh, is not having it.

This is a small selection of tweets:

"This was ill advised. Also, folks gotta stop abusing the word "negative." You meant racist. Just plain old racist. Say that."

She really did say "negative" a bunch. That"s not the right word there, Kim.

"She really just compared being a racist to swatching makeup properly…"

Kim states in the video below that she credits Jeffree with her knowing how to do better swatches. As if that"s the point of this.

"Black people calling out blatant racism directed towards them = being petty. This Is Kim K logic."

The lady who recorded Taylor Swift on the phone and sat on the recording for months to release it at Taylor"s weakest point should know what pettiness is.

Calling out somebody"s racist past isn"t pettiness, folks.

"Kim k is asking her fans to forgive jeffree star"s racist past…but what if that hate was directed towards north and saint..like?????"

Yep.

"Jeffree Star"s own "friends" fell back from his ass over his vile & racist behavior throughout the years (although I side eye them too)"

To be clear, sometimes people do delve into embarrassing, offensive humor or, in their youth, wear blackface without realizing that they"re doing anything wrong or how damaging it can be.

The key is that they learn from it and apologize and never do it again.

But the sorts of statements that Jeffree Star is said to have made are beyond the pale, you know?

Even if he really should be forgiven for his troubled past — though some on Twitter aren"t convinced that he"s really changed — it"s alarming that Kim would devote her considerable platform to defending Jeffree Star.

Especially in the current social climate.
